Jeremiah 33:5 Summary
Jeremiah 33:5 tells us that God is angry with the city because of its wickedness, and He will use the Chaldeans to bring judgment upon it. This verse reminds us that God is a just God who must punish sin, as seen in Ezekiel 18:4, but it also points to a larger story of God's love and redemption, as seen in Jeremiah 29:11. Just like the city in Jeremiah's time, we all need to turn away from wickedness and seek God's face. We can do this by trusting in God's sovereignty and seeking to live according to His will, as seen in Proverbs 3:5-6.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does God say He has hidden His face from the city in Jeremiah 33:5?
God has hidden His face from the city because of its wickedness, which is a recurring theme in the Bible, as seen in Deuteronomy 31:17-18, where God hides His face from those who have turned away from Him.
What does it mean for God to strike down men in His anger and wrath?
When God strikes down men in His anger and wrath, it means He is executing judgment upon them for their sins, as seen in Jeremiah 32:31, where God's wrath is poured out upon Jerusalem due to its wickedness.
Are the Chaldeans acting on their own or is God using them for His purposes?
The Chaldeans are being used by God to fulfill His purposes, as stated in Jeremiah 25:9, where God says He will send the Chaldeans to destroy Jerusalem, demonstrating that even the actions of nations can be used by God to accomplish His will.
How can a loving God bring destruction and death upon a city?
While God is a loving God, as seen in John 3:16, He is also a just God who must punish sin, as stated in Romans 6:23, where the wages of sin is death, and it is this balance of love and justice that is seen in Jeremiah 33:5.
