Ezekiel 46:24 Summary

[Ezekiel 46:24 describes a special place in the temple where the priests would cook the sacrifices that people offered to God. This shows how important it was for the people to have a clean and holy place to worship and offer their sacrifices, just like we see in Exodus 20:24-26 and Leviticus 1:1-17. The idea of having a dedicated space for worship and service is still important for us today, as we are called to be the temple of God, according to 1 Corinthians 3:16-17.]

Frequently Asked Questions

What were the kitchens in Ezekiel 46:24 used for?

The kitchens in Ezekiel 46:24 were used by those who ministered at the temple to cook the sacrifices offered by the people, as a way of providing a holy and clean space for the preparation of these offerings, similar to the instructions given in Leviticus 7:6 and Deuteronomy 12:21.

Who were the people that ministered at the temple?

The people who ministered at the temple were the priests and Levites, who were responsible for the daily sacrifices and upkeep of the temple, as described in Numbers 18:1-7 and 1 Chronicles 23:28-32.

What kind of sacrifices were cooked in these kitchens?

The sacrifices cooked in these kitchens were likely the meat offerings and peace offerings, which were a part of the worship and sacrifice system in the Old Testament, as described in Leviticus 3:1-17 and Leviticus 7:11-21.

Is this verse still relevant to Christians today?

While the specific temple and sacrifice system described in Ezekiel 46:24 is not directly applicable to Christians today, the principle of holy and dedicated spaces for worship and service remains, as seen in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 and 2 Corinthians 6:16, where believers are described as the temple of God.

Reflection Questions

  1. What does this verse reveal about God's desire for holiness and purity in our worship and service?
  2. How can we, as believers, apply the principle of dedicated spaces for worship and service in our own lives and churches?
  3. What role do you think the concept of sacrifice and offering plays in our understanding of worship and relationship with God, in light of Hebrews 13:15-16?
  4. How can we balance the physical and spiritual aspects of our worship, as seen in the combination of kitchens and sacrifices in this verse?

Shall boil the sacrifices which they bring, particularly their peace-offerings, of which the people were to have a portion, and to eat it before the Lord, which is the reason some think these courts and kitchens were in the corners of the courts of the people. But I think, as the people bringing a sacrifice were admitted into the court that was the court of the priests, and to the very gates of the court of the temple, where they gave the sacrifice to the priest, and saw him prepare and offer it for them, so they might be admitted to feast on so solemn occasion in the courts or chambers, whither ordinarily they might not come; I cannot therefore determine these kitchen courts to have been in the court of the people, it is more likely they were in the priests’ courts.
