Context — The Duties of the Priests
28In regard to their inheritance, I am their inheritance. You are to give them no possession in Israel, for I am their possession.
29They shall eat the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings. Everything in Israel devoted to the LORD will belong to them. 30The best of all the firstfruits and of every contribution from all your offerings will belong to the priests. You are to give your first batch of dough to the priest, so that a blessing may rest upon your homes.Cross References

Ezekiel 44:28 Summary
[This verse means that God is the most important thing that the priests own, and they don't need any land or wealth because they have Him, as it says in Ezekiel 44:28. This is similar to what Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:33, where He says to seek God's kingdom first. It's a reminder that our ultimate treasure and inheritance is God Himself, and we can trust in His love and provision for us, just like the priests did. By prioritizing our relationship with God, we can experience His presence and provision in our lives, and find true fulfillment and joy.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean for God to be the inheritance of the priests?
This means that God Himself is the priests' ultimate possession and reward, rather than any earthly land or material wealth, as seen in Ezekiel 44:28 and also in Psalm 16:5, where God is the inheritance of the righteous.
Why are the priests not given any possession in Israel?
According to Ezekiel 44:28, the priests are not given any possession in Israel because God is their possession, and they are to trust in Him for their provision, as also taught in Matthew 6:33, where seeking God's kingdom is prioritized over earthly possessions.
How does this relate to the New Testament concept of inheritance?
In the New Testament, believers are said to be co-heirs with Christ, inheriting eternal life and heavenly riches, as seen in Romans 8:17 and Ephesians 1:11, which reflects the same principle of God being our ultimate inheritance and reward.
What is the significance of the priests' inheritance being God Himself?
This highlights the unique calling and privilege of the priests, who are set apart to serve God and trust in His provision, rather than relying on earthly wealth or status, as also seen in Numbers 18:20, where the Levites are told that God is their inheritance.
