Ezekiel 41:14 Summary

The width of the temple courtyard, including the front of the temple, being a hundred cubits, shows us how big and amazing God's house is, like a grand palace. This reminds us of how great and mighty God is, as we see in Psalm 95:6, which says to come before Him with thanksgiving. The courtyard is like a big open space where people can come to worship and be close to God, and it's a picture of how we can come to God through Jesus, as seen in John 14:6.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown on Ezekiel 41:14

Now the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof ninety cubits.

Matthew Poole's Commentary on Ezekiel 41:14

Of the face; the whole front of the house eastward, the prospect of it being to the east. Of the separate place: this explains the other, say some, the house is the separate place; or else, as others, that other building on the west end of the temple, which was of equal dimensions with the temple. An hundred cubits; measuring from the north point along by the eastern front to the south point, or corner of the building or wall. The admeasuring the particulars I forbear; but since this side runs equal with the length of the whole from east to west, we need not doubt it is a hundred cubits.

Trapp's Commentary on Ezekiel 41:14

Ezekiel 41:14 Also the breadth of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the east, an hundred cubits. Ver. 14. Also the breadth … an hundred cubits.] Whereas Solomon’ s temple was only twenty cubits wide.

Cambridge Bible on Ezekiel 41:14

14. Two measurements of 100 cubits from N. to S. The front of the house buildings, the “separate place” on each side of them being included, gives 100 cubits, namely, 20 (breadth of house) + 6 + 6 (side walls) + 4 + 4 (side-chambers) + 5 + 5 (walls of side-chambers) + 5 + 5 (remainder of raised basement) + 20 + 20 (separate place) = 100, Fig. 3, lm.

Toward the east - The separate place was measured on its eastern side, for the western was not approachable for the purpose of measurement.
