17When Jehu came to Samaria, he struck down everyone belonging to Ahab who remained there, until he had destroyed them, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to Elijah.
18Then Jehu brought all the people together and said, “Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him a lot. 19Now, therefore, summon to me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. See that no one is missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing will not live.” But Jehu was acting deceptively in order to destroy the servants of Baal.Cross References

2 Kings 10:17 Summary
This verse, 2 Kings 10:17, tells us that Jehu went to Samaria and destroyed all of Ahab's family who were still there, just as God had promised through Elijah. This shows us that God is serious about sin and will judge those who do wrong, as seen in Psalm 119:113-120 and Romans 6:23. It also reminds us that God keeps His promises, both to bless those who obey Him and to punish those who disobey, as written in Deuteronomy 7:9-10 and Numbers 23:19. By looking at this event, we can see the importance of trusting and obeying God, even when it's difficult, just like Jehu did, and remember that God's ways are always just and righteous, as stated in Genesis 18:25 and Revelation 15:3-4.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Jehu strike down everyone belonging to Ahab in Samaria?
Jehu struck down everyone belonging to Ahab in Samaria because it was according to the word that the LORD had spoken to Elijah, as seen in 2 Kings 10:17, fulfilling the prophecy and judgment of God on Ahab's household, similar to what is written in Deuteronomy 24:16 and 2 Kings 9:7-10.
What role did Elijah play in this event?
Elijah played a significant role as he was the one to whom the LORD had spoken, prophesying the destruction of Ahab's household, which Jehu carried out in 2 Kings 10:17, demonstrating the fulfillment of God's word through His prophets, as seen in Isaiah 55:11 and Jeremiah 1:12.
Was Jehu's action justified?
Jehu's action can be seen as justified in the context of fulfilling God's judgment on Ahab's household, as stated in 2 Kings 10:17 and supported by 2 Kings 9:7-10, but it also raises questions about the nature of God's justice and the role of human agents in carrying out that justice, which is discussed in Romans 12:19 and Deuteronomy 32:35.
How does this event relate to the larger story of the Bible?
This event is part of the larger story of God's relationship with His people, Israel, and demonstrates His faithfulness to His covenant promises, including the promise to punish those who reject Him, as seen in Leviticus 26:14-39 and Deuteronomy 28:15-68, and to ultimately bring about redemption and restoration through His people, as foretold in Isaiah 11:1-10 and Jeremiah 31:31-34.
