1 Chronicles 6:71 Summary

This verse talks about the Gershomites, a group of Levites, who were given some cities to live in, including Golan in Bashan and Ashtaroth. The Lord provided for them, just like He provides for us, as seen in Matthew 6:25-34. The Gershomites were to serve the Lord and the nation of Israel, and their cities were a gift from God, demonstrating His care and faithfulness. (54-81) The Levitical cities, beginning with those of the Aavonites, the principal branch of the Kohathite clan. This list deals with the same topic as Joshua 21:3-40, with which, upon the whole, it is in substantial agreement. 1 Chronicles 6:54-60 are parallel to Joshua 21:10-19.

Adam Clarke's Commentary on 1 Chronicles 6:71

Verse 71. - 77. We shall see from Joshua 21:28, c., that several of these cities have different names. How barren to us is this register, both of incident and interest! and yet, as barren rocks and sandy deserts make integral and necessary parts of the globe so do these genealogical tables make necessary parts of the history of providence and grace in the maintenance of truth, and the establishment of the Church of Christ. Therefore no one that fears God will either despise or lightly esteem them.
