Luke 9

1 And He called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases: 2 and He sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 3 And He said unto them, journey, neither staves, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; nor two coats a piece.} 6 And they went from town to town, preaching the gospel and healing every where. 7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that were done by Him; and was perplexed, because it was said by some that John was risen from the dead; 8 and by some that Elias had appeared; and by others, that one of the ancient prophets was risen again. 9 And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such and he wanted to see Him. 10 And the apostles; when they were returned, told Him all that they had done: and He took them and retired privately into a desert place belonging to the city Bethsaida. 11 But when the people knew it they followed Him; and He received them, and spake to them concerning the kingdom of God, and healed those that had need of a cure. 12 And when the day began to decline, the twelve came and said to Him, Dismiss the people, that they may go into the villages and country-places round about, and bait, and get food: for here we are in a desert place. 13 But He said unto them, And they said, We have but five loaves and two fishes: unless we should go and buy provisions for all this people: 14 for they were about five thousand men. And He said to his disciples, companies by fifty.} 15 And they did so, and caused them all to sit down. 16 And He took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven He blessed them; and brake and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 And they did eat, and were all satisfied: and there was taken up what remained of fragments twelve baskets. 18 And it came to pass, as He was praying in private, his disciples were with Him: and He asked them saying, 19 They answering said, John the baptist: but others Elias: and others, that some ancient prophet is risen again. 20 And He said unto them, And Peter answered and said, The Christ of God. 21 But He strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised the third day.} 23 And He said unto all, 26 glory, and Father’s, and of the holy angels.} 28 About eight days after these discourses, He took Peter, and John, and James, and went up to a mountain to pray. 29 And as He was praying the form of his countenance was altered, and his raiment white glistering: 30 and behold two men talked with Him, which were Moses and Elias; 31 who appeared in glory, and spake of his exit, which He was to make at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and they that were with Him were heavy with sleep; but being awakened they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with Him. 33 And as they were departing from Him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here, let us make three tabernacles, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34 And as he was saying this, there came a cloud and overshadowed them; and they were afraid, when they went into the cloud 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him. 36 And when the voice was Jesus was found alone. And they kept to themselves, and told no one at that time any of the things which they had seen. 37 And the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a great multitude met Him: 38 and one of the people cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee look upon my son, for he is my only child; 39 and lo, a spirit seizeth him, and on a sudden he screameth, and it convulses him with foaming; and bruising him, with much ado departs from him. 40 And I prayed thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not. 41 Then Jesus answered and said, 42 And as he was coming along, the devil bruised and convulsed him: but Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God: but while they were all wondering at which Jesus did, He said to his disciples, 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not, and they were afraid to ask Him concerning it. 46 Then a dispute rose among them, which of them should be greatest. 47 And Jesus knowing the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said unto them, 49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. 50 And Jesus said unto him, not; for he, that is not against us, is for us.} 51 And it came to pass, as the days were fulfilled of his being received up again that He set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 and sent messengers before Him: who went into a village of the Samaritans to get ready for Him. 53 But they would not entertain Him, because his face was towards Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, as Elias did? 55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, 56 And they went to another village.} 57 And as they were going by the way, one said to Him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest: 58 and Jesus answered him, nests, but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.} 59 And He said to another, but he said, Lord, permit me to go first and bury my father: 60 but Jesus said unto him, 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee, but allow me first to take leave of my family. 62 But Jesus said unto him,
