Worsley1 But Jesus went to the mount of Olives; 2 and returned early in the morning into the temple, and all the people came to Him: and He sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and pharisees brought to Him a woman taken in adultery; 4 and setting her in the midst, they said to Him, “This woman was caught in the very act, committing adultery. 5 Now Moses in the law has commanded us that such should be stoned, but what sayest Thou?" 6 This they said to tempt Him, that they might have to accuse Him But Jesus stooping down, wrote with finger upon the ground. 7 And as they continued asking Him, He raised himself up and said unto them, 8 Then He stooped down again and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard being convicted by their own conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at the elder, even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst 10 Then Jesus rising up, and seeing none but the woman, said unto her, 11 And she said, None, Lord. Then said Jesus unto her, 12 Then spake Jesus again to them, saying, 13 The pharisees therefore said to Him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy testimony is not true. 14 Jesus answered and said unto them, 15 I judge no man } 16 judge, my judgement is true; for I am not alone, but I with the Father that sent me.} 18 I am who bear witness of myself; and the Father, who sent me, beareth witness of me.} 19 Then said they unto Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, when He was teaching in the temple: and no one laid hands on Him, for his hour was not yet come. 21 Jesus therefore said unto them again, 22 The Jews therefore said, What! will He kill himself; that He says, 23 And He said unto them, 24 ye shall die in your sins.} 25 Then said they to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus answered them, that I told you at first.} 26 He that sent me is true, and I declare to the world those which I have heard from Him.} 27 they did not know that He spake unto them the Father. 28 Jesus therefore said unto them, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father hath instructed me, I speak these } 29 pleasing to Him.} 30 As He spake these many believed on Him. 31 Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, 33 They answered Him, We are the seed of Abraham, and never were slaves to any one, how dost thou say, 34 Jesus answered them, 38 which I have seen with my Father, and ye do what ye have seen with your father.} 39 They answered Him, Abraham is our father, Jesus replied, 41 ye do the works of your father.} Then said they unto Him, We are not born of fornication, we have one Father, God. 42 Jesus said unto them, 43 why do ye not understand my language, because ye cannot bear my doctrine?} 44 father the devil, and are bent upon doing the lusts of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and continued not in the truth: for there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh like himself, for he is a liar, and the father of such.} 47 ye therefore receive not, because ye are not of God.} 48 The Jews therefore answered and said unto Him. Do we not rightly say, that thou art a Samaritan, and art possessed by a demon? 49 Jesus answered 50 that seeketh and judgeth.} 51 keep my word, he shall never see death.} 52 The Jews therefore said unto Him, Now we are sure that thou art possessed by a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets and thou sayest, keep my word, he shall never taste of death:} art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? 53 and the prophets are dead: whom dost thou pretend 54 Jesus answered, 55 ye know him not; but I know Him: and if I should say, That I know Him not, I shall be like you, a liar: but I know Him, and obey his word.} 57 Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58 Jesus said unto them, 59 Therefore they took up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus concealed Himself, and went out of the temple, through the midst of them, and so passed on.
