Matthew 26

Worrell

1 And it came to pass when Jesus finished all these words, He said to His disciples, 3 Then the high priests and the elders of the people were gathered together into the court of the high priest who was called Caiaphas; 4 and they consulted together that they might take Jesus by guile and kill Him. 5 But they said, “Not during the feast, lest an uproar might arise among the people." 6 Now, when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 there came to Him a woman having an alabaster cruse of very precious ointment, and poured down upon His head, while reclining at table. 8 And the disciples, seeing it, were much displeased, saying, “To what purpose is this waste? 9 For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor!" 10 But Jesus, perceiving , said to them, 12 pouring this ointment upon My body, did with reference to My burial.} 14 Then one of the twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, going to the high priests, 15 said, “What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver Him up to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that time he was seeking an opportunity to deliver Him up. 17 And on the first of the unleavened the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where dost Thou wish we should prepare for Thee to eat the passover?" 18 And He said, 19 And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and prepared the passover. 20 And, evening coming on, He was reclining with the twelve; 21 and, as they were eating, He said, 22 And, being exceedingly grieved, they began to say to Him, each one, “Is it I, Lord?" 23 And He, answering, said, hand in the dish, the same will betray Me.} 25 And Judas, who betrayed Him, answering, said, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He says to him, .”} 26 And, as they were eating, Jesus, taking a loaf and blessing , broke , and giving to his disciples, said, 27 And, taking a cup, and offering thanks, He gave to the disciples, saying, ;} 30 And, having sung praises, they went out into the mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus saith to them, 33 But Peter, answering, said to Him, “If all should be made to stumble because of Thee, I will never be made to stumble." 34 Jesus said to him, 35 Peter says to Him, “Even if I must die with Thee, I will not deny Thee.” Likewise also said all the disciples. 36 Then cometh Jesus with them into a place called Gethsemane, and saith to the disciples, 37 And, taking with Him Peter, and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be grieved and to be in distress. 38 Then saith He to them, 39 And, going forward a little, He fell on His face, praying, and saying, .”} 40 And He cometh to the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, 42 Again, a second time, going away, He prayed, saying, should pass away except I drink , Thy will be done,”} 43 And, coming again, He found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy. 44 And, leaving them, going away again, He prayed a third time, saying again the same words. 45 Then He cometh to the disciples, and saith to them, remaining time, and take your rest. Behold the hour has drawn near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into hands of sinners.} 47 And, while He is yet speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large multitude, with swords and clubs, from the high priests and elders of the people. 48 And he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, “Whomsoever I kiss, He it is; seize Him." 49 And immediately coming to Jesus, he said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, that for which you are present!”} Then, coming near, they laid hands on Jesus, and took Him. 51 And, behold, one of those with Jesus stretching forth his hand, grasped his sword; and, smiting the servant of the high priest, he struck off his ear. 52 Then saith Jesus to him, 55 In that hour Jesus saith to the multitudes, 56 Then all the disciples, forsaking Him, fled. 57 And those who seized Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 58 And Peter was following Him afar off to the court of the high priest; and, entering within, he was sitting with the attendants to see the end. 59 And the high priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false witness against Jesus, that they might put Him to death; 60 and they did not find , though many false witnesses came forward. But afterward two false witnesses, coming forward, 61 said, “This , said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build in three days.’" 62 And the high priest, standing up, said to Him, “Answerest Thou nothing? What are these testifying against Thee?" 63 But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to Him, “I adjure Thee by the living God, that Thou tell us whether Thou art the Christ, the Son of God” 64 Jesus saith to him, 65 Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, “He blasphemed! What further need have we of witnesses? Behold, ye just now heard the blasphemy! 66 What think ye?” And they, answering, said, “He is worthy of death." 67 Then did they spit in His face, and buffet Him. And others smote , 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, O Christ, who is he that struck Thee?" 69 And Peter was sitting without, in the court; and a certain maid-servant approached him, saying, “And you were with Jesus the Galilaean!" 70 But he denied before all, saying, “I know not what you are saying." 71 And another maid saw him, when he walked out into the porch, and says to those there, “This was with Jesus the Nazarene." 72 And again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man." 73 And after a little while, those who stood by, having come, said to Peter, “Truly you also are one of them; for even your speech makes you manifest." 74 Then began he to curse and swear, “I do not know the Man.” And straight-way a cock crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, saying, And, going forth without, he wept bitterly.
