Titus 2
BSA1 But as for you [speaking directly to Titus], speak [utter words, teach] the things [doctrine, teachings] that are consistent [proper, fitting] with sound [healthy, uncorrupt] doctrine [teaching, instruction]. word study 2 Older men [aged, elderly] are to be temperate [sober, self-restrained], dignified [noble, honorable], self-controlled [moderate], and sound [healthy] in faith [trust and confidence], love [unconditional affection], and perseverance [endurance, patiently waiting]. word study 3 Older women [aged women], likewise [in the same way], are to be reverent [respectful, having a deep respect for God] in their behavior [demeanor, conduct], not slanderers [false accusers] or addicted [enslaved] to much wine, but teachers of good [righteous, noble]. word study 4 In this way [to achieve this purpose] they can train [teach to be sober-minded, discipline] the young women [younger wives, newly married] to love [be devoted to, have affection for] their husbands [spouses, partners] and children [offspring, kids], word study 5 to be [self-disciplined, sober-minded] self-controlled [chaste, innocent], pure [managers, keepers], managers of their households [good, kind], kind, and [obedient, submissive] submissive to their own husbands [men], so that the [message, word] word of [the one true] God will not be discredited [blasphemed]. word study 6 In the same way [likewise, in a similar manner], urge [exhort, plead with] the younger men [young men, those who are new in the faith] to be [to live as, to conduct themselves as] self-controlled [sober-minded, sane, of sound mind, having a moderate and disciplined mind]. word study 7 In everything [all things, every aspect], show yourself [be an example to others] to be an example [a pattern, a model] by doing good [beautiful, noble] works [deeds, actions]. In your teaching [doctrine, instruction] show integrity [uncorruptness, purity], dignity [gravity, seriousness, respect], word study 8 and wholesome [healthy, sound] speech [a message] that is above reproach [beyond condemnation, blameless], so that anyone who opposes [is hostile to] us will be ashamed [put to shame, feel embarrassed] to have nothing [no evil, no wrong] bad [evil, wicked] to say [speak, tell] about us. word study 9 Slaves [servants, bondslaves] are to submit [be in subjection, obey] to their own [private, personal] masters [lords, owners] in everything [all things, every matter], to be [exist as] well-pleasing [fully agreeable, acceptable], not [by no means] argumentative [disputing, gainsaying, contradicting], word study 10 not [embezzling, secretly taking] stealing from them, but showing [demonstrating, proving] all [every aspect of] good [beneficial, virtuous] faith [trust, confidence], so that in every respect [all things, every way] they will [by their actions] adorn [beautify, honor] the teaching [doctrine, instruction] about [concerning, regarding] God [the supreme Deity] our Savior [Deliverer, Redeemer]. word study 11 For [because of this reason] the grace [divine influence, unmerited favor] of God [the one true deity] has appeared [become visible, manifested], bringing [offering, providing] salvation [spiritual rescue, deliverance] to [for the benefit of] everyone. word study 12 It instructs [teaches, trains] us to renounce [deny, reject] ungodliness [wickedness, impiety] and worldly [earthly, corrupt] passions [desires, lusts], and to live [exist, have life] sensible [in self-control, soberly], upright [rightly, justly], and godly [piously, devoted to God] lives [lives that please God] in the present [current, this] age [time, era], word study 13 as we await [look for, expectantly wait for] the blessed [happy, supremely blissful] hope [confident expectation, trust in God’s goodness] and glorious [manifest, shining] appearance [epiphany, revelation] of our great [mighty, powerful] God [the one true deity, Creator] and Savior [Deliverer, Rescuer] Jesus Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah]. word study 14 He gave [sacrificed, willingly offered] Himself [themself] for us [on our behalf, for our benefit] to redeem [ransom, set free] us from all [every kind of, complete] lawlessness [iniquity, wickedness] and to purify [cleanse, make holy] for Himself [themself] a people [a special group] for His own [peculiar, unique] possession [special treasure], zealous [enthusiastic, dedicated] for good [beautiful, noble] deeds [works, actions]. word study 15 Speak [declare, proclaim] these things [referring to the preceding instructions] as you [with authority, as a leader] encourage [comfort, plead with] and rebuke [correct, convict] with all [complete] authority [command]. Let no one [not a single person] despise [think little of, disregard] you [as a representative of God]. word study
