Song of Solomon 7

BSA

1 How beautiful are your sandaled [with shoes, in sandals] feet, O daughter [princess] of the prince! The curves [joints, rounded thighs] of your thighs are like jewels [ornaments, precious stones], the handiwork [work, craftsmanship] of a master [skilful workman, cunning craftsman]. word study 2 Your navel [like a round goblet] is a rounded goblet [never lacking, always full]; it never lacks [is always filled with] blended wine [mixed with spices, a luxurious drink]. Your waist [body, figure] is a mound of wheat [a heap, a bundle] encircled [surrounded, set about] by the lilies. word study 3 Your breasts [two young roes, twin fawns] are like two fawns [young ones, twin gazelles], twins of a gazelle [a roe, a swift and agile creature]. word study 4 Your neck is like [a majestic and elegant] a tower made of ivory; your eyes are like [shining and sparkling] the pools of Heshbon [a place of abundance and fertility] by the gate of Bath-rabbim [the city of the multitude]; your nose is like [strong and prominent] the tower of Lebanon, facing toward Damascus. word study 5 Your head crowns [crowned with beauty] you like Mount Carmel, the hair of your head [like royal purple threads] like purple [a color of luxury and nobility] threads; the king [the beloved, the monarch of my heart] is captured [held spellbound, enthralled] in your tresses [the locks of your hair, a symbol of love and devotion]. word study 6 How fair [beautiful, lovely] and pleasant [delightful, charming] you are, O love [my dearest, beloved], with your delights [charming features, attractions]! word study 7 Your stature [tall and slender, like a palm tree] is like a palm tree; your breasts [like clusters of grapes or dates] are clusters of fruit. word study 8 I said, “I will climb [go up to, ascend] the palm tree [date palm]; I will take hold [lay hold, grasp] of its fruit [clusters, bunches].” May your breasts [woman’s or animal’s breast, swollen] be like clusters [bunches] of the vine [grapevine], the fragrance [scent, smell] of your breath [nose, nostrils] like apples [citrons, sweet fragrance], word study 9 and your mouth like the finest wine [that goeth down sweetly, smoothly]. The Bride May it flow smoothly [gliding gently, causing the lips to speak] to my beloved [the one I love, my dear], gliding gently [smoothly, in uprightness] over lips [the lips of those that are asleep, the aged] and teeth [in a gentle, loving manner]. word study 10 I belong [am devoted, am the possession] to my beloved [loved one, dear one], and his desire [longing, affection] is for [toward, directed to] me [toward my very being]. word study 11 Come, my beloved [loved one, dear one], let us go to the countryside [field, rural area]; let us spend the night [lodge, rest] among the wildflowers [henna flowers, cypress-trees, villages]. word study 12 Let us go early [at dawn] to the vineyards [fields, cultivated lands] to see if the vine [grapevine, symbol of love] has budded [flourished, begun to grow], if the blossom [tender grape, sweet smelling-flower] has opened [is in flower], if the pomegranates [fruitful trees, symbols of abundance] are in bloom [have blossomed]— there I will give you my love [my beloved, my affection, dodim]. word study 13 The mandrakes [love-apples, fragrant plants] send forth a fragrance [sweet smell, aroma], and at our door [gates, entrance] is every delicacy [pleasant fruit, precious thing], new [fresh, recently gathered] as well as old [stored, preserved], that I have treasured up [laid up, saved] for you, my beloved [loved one, dear one]. word study
