Psalms 46
BSA1 God [our strong Protector, the one who causes us to be strong] is our refuge [safe place, shelter] and strength [power, ability to help], an ever-present [always ready, very present] help [assistance, support] in times of trouble [adversity, distress]. word study 2 Therefore we will not fear [have no anxiety, be unafraid], though the earth [the land, the physical world] is transformed [changed, shaken] and the mountains [the highest points, the most secure places] are toppled [overturned, fallen] into the depths [the heart, the midst] of the seas [the vast oceans, the unknown], word study 3 though their waters roar [roar and be troubled] and foam [with violent motion, sounding] and the mountains [shake, tremble] quake [with the swelling, in the surge] in the surge [of the waters, with their violent motion]. Selah word study 4 There is a river [whose streams bring joy and refreshment] whose streams delight [make glad, bring happiness to] the city of God [the dwelling of the Most High], the holy place [sanctuary, tabernacle] where the Most High [the supreme God, the Almighty] dwells. word study 5 God [the supreme Creator, Elohim] is within her [in the midst of the city, as a protector]; she will not be moved [shaken or disturbed, at all]. God will help [assist and support, right early] her when morning [at dawn, the break of day] dawns [arrives, bringing new light]. word study 6 Nations [heathen, pagan peoples] rage, kingdoms [empires, governments] crumble; the earth [land, creation] melts [becomes like wax, is utterly destroyed] when He [God, Elohim] lifts His voice [utters His command, speaks with authority]. word study 7 The LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] of Hosts [armies, heavenly forces] is with us; the God [Elohim, our divine Protector] of Jacob [Israel, the people of God] is our fortress [refuge, high tower, stronghold]. Selah word study 8 Come, see [behold, observe] the works [amazing things, desolations] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], who brings [has made, achieves] devastation [desolations, destruction] upon the earth [the land, the material world]. word study 9 He makes [causing to cease, stopping] wars [conflicts, battles] to cease [come to an end, be still] throughout [to the end of, across] the earth [land, world]; He breaks [shatters, cuts in two] the bow [weapon, instrument of war] and shatters [cuts asunder, smashes] the spear [javelin, weapon of attack]; He burns [destroys by fire, consumes] the shields [protective armor, defense] in the fire [flames, blaze]. word study 10 “Be still [stop, cease from striving] and know [acknowledge, recognize] that I am God [the one true Eternal]; I will be exalted [lifted up, honored] among the nations [heathen, Gentile countries], I will be exalted [magnified, glorified] over the earth [land, world].” word study 11 The LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] of Hosts [the commander of the armies of heaven] is with us; the God [Elohim, the supreme Protector] of Jacob [the father of the Israelites] is our [place of safety, refuge] fortress [strong tower, high tower].
