Psalms 4
BSA1 Answer me when I call, O God [of vindication, my righteousness] of my righteousness! You have relieved [set me at large, given freedom from] my distress; show me [have mercy on me, act graciously toward] grace and hear [listen to, hearken unto] my prayer. word study 2 How long, O men [sons of men, human beings], will my honor [glory, reputation] be maligned [turned into shame, disgraced]? How long will you love [pursue, cherish] vanity [what is worthless, foolish things] and seek after [pursue, follow] lies [falsehood, deception] ? Selah word study 3 Know that the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] has set apart [chosen, separated] the godly [faithful, righteous] for Himself; the LORD [the Almighty, Eternal One] hears [listens, responds] when I call [cry out, pray] to Him [in reverence, with devotion]. word study 4 Be angry [tremble, stand in awe], yet do not sin [transgress, disobey]; on your bed [at rest, in stillness], search [examine, commune with] your heart [your inner self, conscience] and be still [silent, quiet]. Selah [pause, reflect] word study 5 Offer [sacrifices of righteousness, with the right attitude] the sacrifices [proper sacrifices, of righteousnes] of the righteous [those in right standing with God] and trust [put your faith, continue trusting] in the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]. word study 6 Many [numbers of people, a multitude] ask, “Who can show [reveal, demonstrate] us the good [any good, what is beneficial]?” Shine [lift up, let shine forth] the light [radiance, illumination] of Your face [countenance, presence] upon us, O [to, towards] LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God]. word study 7 You have filled [put, given abundantly] my heart [inner being, soul] with more joy [gladness, happiness] than when grain [corn, harvest] and new wine [freshly made wine, abundance] abound [are increased, multiplied]. word study 8 I will lie down [in peace and security] and sleep [soundly, without fear] in peace [tranquility, rest], for You alone [only You], O LORD [the covenant God, Yehovah], make me dwell [cause me to live, establish me] in safety [confidence, trust]. word study
