Psalms 149
BSA1 Hallelujah [praise the Lord]! Sing [make music, chant] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] a new [fresh, recently created] song— His praise [a hymn of worship] in the assembly [congregation, gathering] of the godly [pious, holy ones, saints]. word study 2 Let Israel [the symbolic name of Jacob, God’s chosen people] rejoice [be glad, celebrate with joy] in their Maker [Creator, the one who formed them]; let the children [sons, descendants] of Zion [the mountain in Jerusalem] rejoice [be joyful, express delight] in their King [Sovereign, Ruler, the one who reigns over them]. word study 3 Let them praise His name [having God’s nature, His identity and character] with dancing [in the dance, a round dance], and make music [sing praises] to Him with tambourine [timbrel, a musical instrument] and harp [lyre, a stringed instrument]. word study 4 For the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] takes pleasure [is well pleased, delights] in His people [nation, those who belong to Him]; He adorns [beautifies, crowns] the afflicted [meek, humble, poor in spirit] with salvation [deliverance, victory, rescue]. word study 5 Let the saints [pious, holy ones, faithful to God] exult [jump for joy, rejoice triumphantly] in glory [great honor, splendor, God’s majesty]; let them shout [sing aloud, overcome with joy] for joy [with triumphant praise] upon their beds [places of rest, intimate relationships]. word study 6 May the high [exalted, lofty] praises of God [the Almighty, divine Strength] be in their mouths [throat, voice], and a double-edged [two-edged, sharp] sword [cutting instrument, weapon] in their hands [power, strength], word study 7 to inflict [execute, take] vengeance [punishment, retribution] on the nations [Gentiles, heathen] and punishment [corrections, rebuke] on the peoples [communities, people groups], word study 8 to bind [tie or restrain] their kings [royal rulers, monarchs] with chains [fetters, metal restraints] and their nobles [honored ones, dignitaries] with shackles [fetter, bonds] of iron [strong metal], word study 9 to execute [impose, give them the punishment] the judgment [justice, verdict] written [inscribed, recorded] against them [upon those nations].
