Isaiah 4

1 In that day [a time of great change, a future era] seven women [females, wives] will take hold [seize, grasp] of one [a single, unified] man [a male, husband] and say, “We will eat [consume, devour] our own bread [food, sustenance] and provide [clothe, cover] our own clothes [apparel, garments]. Just let us be called [identified, named] by your name [your identity, reputation] [only, except]. Take away [remove, eliminate] our disgrace [shame, reproach, a state of being without a husband]!” word study 2 On that [specific, prophetic] day the Branch [young growth, sprout] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] will be beautiful [excellent, comely] and glorious [full of honor, splendor], and the fruit [produce, harvest] of the land [earth, territory] will be the pride [majesty, excellence] and glory [beauty, honor] of Israel’s [Jacob’s descendants] survivors [escaped ones, remnant]. word study 3 Whoever remains [is left, spared] in Zion [the mountain, city of God] and whoever is left [remains, is preserved] in Jerusalem [the city of peace] will be called [declared, named] holy [set apart, sacred]— all [everyone, every one] in Jerusalem who are recorded [written, enrolled] among the living [those alive, in life]word study 4 when the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] has washed away [purged, cleansed from] the filth [excrement, moral pollution] of the daughters [women, female inhabitants] of Zion [the city of God, Jerusalem] and cleansed [washed, thrust away] the bloodstains [the liquid that flows through the body] from the heart [innermost being, midst] of Jerusalem by a spirit [breath of life, divine influence] of judgment [justice, righteous decision] and a spirit [wind, fiery passion] of fire [burning, purification]. word study 5 Then the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] will create [bring into being, form] over all [every part, the entirety] of Mount Zion [the city of God, the spiritual mountain] and over her assemblies [convocations, gatherings] a cloud of smoke by day [a sign of God’s power] and a glowing flame [a shining, blazing fire] of fire by night [a beacon of hope]. For over all the glory [God’s majestic presence, His splendor] there will be a canopy [a covering, a protection], word study 6 a shelter [tabernacle, pavilion, or booth] to give shade [shadow, protection] from the heat [drought, desolation] by day [daily, during the daytime], and a refuge [safe place, shelter] and hiding place [covert, place of security] from the storm [strong downpour, whirlwind] and the rain [water from the sky, inundation]. word study
