Galatians 6
BSA1 Brothers [fellow believers, spiritual siblings], if someone is caught [overtaken, taken by surprise] in a trespass [unintentional error, sin], you who are spiritual [guided by the Spirit, non-carnal] should restore him [bring back to a right state, correct gently] with a spirit of gentleness [meekness, humility] [having a mild and humble attitude]. But watch yourself [be careful, consider your own actions], or you also may be tempted [tested, tried by sin or circumstance]. word study 2 Carry [bear, take on] one another’s [mutual, each other’s] burdens [troubles, weights], and in this way [thus, like this] you will fulfill [complete, make whole] the law [commandments, teachings] of Christ [the Anointed One, Jesus]. word study 3 If [under the condition, in the case that] anyone thinks [supposes, has an opinion] he is something [important, significant] when he is nothing [without value, insignificant], he deceives [misleads, tricks] himself [his own mind, his own understanding]. word study 4 Each one [every individual, each person] should test [examine, prove] his own [personal, unique to himself] work [labor, occupation, deeds]. Then [at that time, afterwards] he will have reason [cause, grounds] to boast [rejoice, glory] in himself [his own accomplishments] alone [solitary, without comparison], and not [by no means, never] in someone [another person, a different individual] else [a different person, another]. word study 5 For [as a reason, explaining why] each one [every individual] should carry [bear, lift] his own [private, personal] load [burden, task, something to be carried] [his responsibility, his part of the work]. word study 6 Nevertheless, the one who receives [is taught, instructed in] instruction [teaching, guidance] in the word [Logos, message of God] must share [communicate, participate] in all [every, everything] good [beneficial, righteous] things with his instructor [teacher, the one teaching]. word study 7 Do not be deceived [led astray, tricked]: God [the one true deity] is not to be mocked [ridiculed, made sport of]. Whatever a man [a human being] sows [scatters seed, plants], he will reap [harvest, gather] in return [as a consequence, in kind]. word study 8 The one who sows [scatters seed, plants for the future] to please his flesh [sinful human nature, the self-directed part of us], from the flesh [our physical and carnal desires] will reap [harvest, gather the results of] destruction [corruption, ruin]; but the one who sows [invests, cultivates] to please the Spirit [the divine breath, God’s presence within us], from the Spirit [the source of eternal life] will reap [gather, inherit] eternal [lasting forever, age-during] life [existence, spiritual vitality]. word study 9 Let us not grow [become discouraged, lose heart] weary [feeling weak or exhausted] in well-doing [doing good, what is right], for in due [the right, proper] time [season, opportunity] we will reap [harvest, gather] a harvest [a reward, a blessing] if we do not give up [faint, become weak]. word study 10 Therefore [as a consequence, then], as we have opportunity [the right time, chance], let us do [work, labor] good [beneficial, righteous] to everyone [all men, people], and especially [mostly, above all] to the family [household] of faith [trust, confidence in God]. word study 11 See [with your eyes, perceive] what large [how great, impressive] letters [something written, characters] I am using [now writing] to write [record, compose] to you [directly, personally] with my own [mine, belonging to me] hand [instrument, power]! word study 12 Those who want to make a good impression [to seem important, have a fair show] outwardly [in the flesh, physically] are trying to compel [force, constrain] you to be circumcised [to cut around, undergo the Jewish ritual]. They only do this [solely, merely] to avoid [lest they suffer, escape] persecution [pursuit, hostility] for the cross [the instrument of Christ’s death] of Christ [the Anointed One, the Messiah]. word study 13 For the circumcised [those who receive circumcision, having undergone the Jewish rite] do not even keep [observe, guard, or obey] the law [a set of rules or regulations, such as Moses’ law] themselves, yet they want [desire, intentionally choose] you to be circumcised [to cut around, specifically referring to the Jewish practice] that they may boast [glory, take pride] in your flesh [the physical body, human nature]. word study 14 But as for me, may I never [far be it from me to] boast, except in the cross [the instrument of crucifixion] of our Lord [the supreme authority] Jesus Christ [the anointed Messiah], through which [di’, because of] the world [the system of human affairs] has been crucified [impaled] to me, and I to the world [having no affinity with its values]. word study 15 For [as a reason, explaining why] neither [not one or the other] circumcision [the Jewish rite of cutting, a sign of covenant] nor [not one or the other] uncircumcision [not being circumcised, a state of being] means [has value, is significant] anything [something of importance]. What counts [is valued, has importance] is [exists, is real] a [completely, entirely] new [fresh, recently created] creation [the act of creating, a new work]. word study 16 Peace [harmony, prosperity, and freedom from war] and mercy [showing pity, compassion, and kindness] to all who walk [follow, live in line with] by this rule [standard, principle], even to the Israel [God’s chosen people] of God [the one true deity]. word study 17 From now on [henceforth, from this time forward] let no one [no man, nothing] cause me trouble [put me to business, give me trouble], for I [as for me, personally] bear [carry, have branded] on my body [in my physical person] the marks [scars, brandings] of Jesus [the Lord Jesus, God’s salvation]. word study 18 The [divine, unmerited] grace [favor, loving-kindness] of our Lord [Master, Savior] Jesus [God is salvation] Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah] be with [accompany, remain with] your [belonging to you] spirit [breath, inner being], brothers [fellow believers, siblings in faith]. Amen [so be it, truly]. word study
