Ezekiel 35
BSA1 Moreover, the word [message from God, divine utterance] of the LORD [Yehovah] came [was given, occurred] to me, saying [to speak, to command], word study 2 “Son [descendant, human] of man [the first human, Adam], set [appoint, place] your face [presence, being in front of] against [upon, in opposition to] Mount [hill] Seir [hairy, shaggy, a mountain in Idumaea] and prophesy [speak under divine influence, foretell] against [upon, concerning] it, word study 3 and declare that this is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: Behold [look, take notice], I am against you, O Mount [a mountain or hill] Seir [a mountain in Idumaea, meaning hairy or shaggy]. I will stretch out [to extend or spread out] My hand [an open hand; strength, a side or share] against you and make you a desolate [wasted or devastated] waste [a state of devastation or horror]. word study 4 I [the Lord] will turn your cities [towns, settlements] into ruins [desolate, waste], and you will become [be left] a desolation [waste, devastation]. Then you [as an individual, personally] will know [understand, recognize] that I am [exist as] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study 5 Because you harbored [nurtured, had a perpetual] an ancient [long-standing, age-old] hatred [enmity, hostility] and delivered [handed over, gave up] the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] over to the sword [cutting instrument, weapon of war] in the time [occasion, event] of their disaster [calamity, misfortune] at the final stage [end, conclusion] of their punishment [iniquity, sin, moral evil], word study 6 therefore as surely as I [alive, having life] live, declares the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah], I will give you over to bloodshed [violence, slaughter] and it will pursue [chase, hunt] you. Since you did not hate [detest, reject] bloodshed [shedding of blood, violence], it will pursue [follow, overtake] you. word study 7 I will make Mount [Seir, a mountain in Idumaea] Seir a desolate [waste and devastated] waste and will cut off [destroy, eliminate] from it those who come [passing over, transitioning] and go [returning, turning back]. word study 8 I will fill its mountains [with the dead, its slain men] with the slain [pierced by the sword]; those killed by the sword [cutting instrument, weapon of war] will fall [be defeated, lie slain] on your hills [Gibeah, small hills], in your valleys [deep, narrow gorges], and in all [every, everything] your ravines [channels, streams, watercourses]. word study 9 I will make you a perpetual [everlasting, forever] desolation [waste, devastation], and your cities [towns, settlements] will not [never] be inhabited [dwelt in, lived in]. Then you will know [understand, recognize] that I am [exist as, am the one and only] the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God]. word study 10 Because [for this reason, therefore] you have said [spoken, declared], ‘These two [a pair, dual] nations [Gentile, non-Hebrew peoples] and countries [lands, territories] will be [exist, come into being] ours [our possession, inheritance], and we will possess [take control, occupy] them [as our own],’ even though [whereas, at the same time] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] was [existed, present] there [in that place, at that time], word study 11 therefore as surely as I [truly, with absolute certainty] live, declares the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign God] GOD [Yehovah], I will treat you according to the anger [intense emotional response, wrath] and jealousy [strong feelings of envy, zeal] you showed in your hatred [intense dislike, hostility] against them, and I will make Myself known [reveal My character, be recognized] among them when I judge [vindicate, punish] you. word study 12 Then you will know [be aware, understand] that I, the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], have heard [listened to, given attention to] every contemptuous [blasphemous, scornful] word you uttered [spoken, declared] against the mountains [hills, elevated lands] of Israel [God’s chosen people, the descendants of Jacob] when you said [spoken, proclaimed], ‘They are desolate [laid waste, devastated]; they are given [delivered, entrusted] to us to devour [consume, destroy]!’ word study 13 You [magnified yourselves, made great boasts] boasted against Me with your mouth [lips, speech] and multiplied [made abundant, increased] your words against Me. I [Myself, personally] heard [listened to, gave attention to] it Myself [directly, with my own ears]! word study 14 This is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: While the whole [entire, all-inclusive] earth [land, territory] rejoices [is glad, celebrates], I will make you desolate [a wilderness, devastated]. word study 15 As you rejoiced [with great joy, celebrated] when the inheritance [property, heritage] of the house [family, descendants] of Israel [the symbolic name of Jacob, God’s chosen people] became desolate [laid waste, devastated], so will I do to you. You will become a desolation [a waste, a barren land], O Mount Seir [a mountain in Idumaea], and so will all [every part, the entire region] of Edom [the region where Esau lived]. Then they will know [understand, recognize] that I am the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study
