According to Scripture, a sound mind is a mind that is grounded in faith and guided by God's wisdom. In 2 Timothy, believers are reminded that God has given them a spirit of power and love, rather than one of fear, to inform their thinking. The apostle Paul encourages Christians to be transformed by renewing their minds, as noted in Romans, and to set their hope fully on the grace that will be theirs, as Peter writes. A sound mind is also characterized by a focus on what is true, noble, and praiseworthy, as Philippians teaches, and is freed from the grip of fear by perfect love, as seen in 1 John.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
