10 Bible Verses on Human Rights

10 verses

In the biblical narrative, all people are created in God's image, as stated in Genesis 1:26 and 1:27, which establishes their inherent dignity and worth. This fundamental principle is reflected in the teachings of Micah 6:8, where doing justice and loving kindness are presented as essential aspects of faithfulness. The New Testament reaffirms this message, as Galatians 3:28 emphasizes that all people, regardless of their background or social status, are equal in God's sight. Additionally, Proverbs 31:8-9 encourages believers to speak up for the vulnerable and defend the rights of the oppressed, demonstrating the Bible's concern for the well-being and justice of all individuals.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”
Open your mouth for those with no voice, for the cause of all the dispossessed. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the poor and needy.
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed.
Learn to do right; seek justice and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless and plead the case of the widow.”
Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all.
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. Consequently, whoever resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the one in authority? Then do what is right, and you will have his approval. For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not carry the sword in vain. He is God’s servant, an agent of retribution to the wrongdoer. Therefore it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work. Pay everyone what you owe him: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due. Be indebted to no one, except to one another in love. For he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and any other commandments, are summed up in this one decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man his blood will be shed; for in His own image God has made mankind.
