16 Bible Verses on Hearing God

16 verses

In the Bible, hearing God's voice is a vital aspect of a personal relationship with Him. According to John 10:27, Jesus' followers are able to hear His voice, and in Romans 10:17, faith comes from hearing the message of Christ. Jeremiah 33:3 invites believers to call to God, promising that He will answer, while Isaiah 30:21 and John 8:47 emphasize the importance of listening to God's guidance. Through these passages, it becomes clear that hearing God's voice is essential for spiritual growth and obedience.

My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
John 8:47
Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will give you counsel and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or mule, which have no understanding; they must be controlled with bit and bridle to make them come to you.
The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls. Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does. If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
