11 Bible Verses on Being Prideful

11 verses

Scripture consistently warns against the dangers of pride, recognizing it as a destructive force that can separate individuals from God and others. The book of Proverbs lists pride as one of the seven detestable things to God, while 1 John 2:16 identifies the pride of life as part of the world's system that is opposed to God. In contrast, Philippians 2:3 and Matthew 18:3 encourage humility, with the latter emphasizing the need to become like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. Romans 12:17-21 further instructs believers to overcome pride by living at peace with everyone and not taking revenge, instead leaving room for God's wrath.

For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments. If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him: Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.
The one who overcomes will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
