This is Aunt Martha and I have a new tape for you. Boys and girls, you are growing. You have growing minds that are learning many new things. I want this tape to help you learn how very special the Scriptures are. The Scriptures are God's Word, the Bible. God's Word helps us in our lives. On this tape, you will hear God's Word. God's Word is the most important thing you can ever learn. Do you have a blue bookmark from Gospel Sunrise? It is called, How to Use the Bible. These verses were taken from the suggested Bible readings listed on the bookmark. When you look at your bookmark, you will remember to pray for Gospel Sunrise. Do you remember the Maddie stories on tapes 1 through 6? Maddie needed God's Word to help her in her life. When Maddie's papa died, she missed him so much. Her mama said her papa was in heaven with Jesus because he loved Jesus with all his heart. Jesus says he is preparing a heavenly home for all who believe in him. John 14, 1 to 6, tells us about this. John 14, 1 to 6, In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest, and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Let not your weary hearts be troubled, believe in God, believe in me. For in my Father's house are mansions, I will prepare a place for thee. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. Let not your weary heart be troubled, believe in God, believe in me. For in my Father's house are mansions, I will prepare a place for thee. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. Though Maddie had to live in different homes after her Papa died, God did take care of her. She was discouraged at times, she needed to wait on the Lord. Isaiah 40, 28-31 tells us God is always there and helps us if we wait on Him. Isaiah 40, 28-31 Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of His understanding. He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might, He increases strength. Even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. We can sing verse 31. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Teach me Lord, teach me Lord to wait. Would Maddie ever have a home where she could stay? She worried about what would happen. Good verses to help when one is worried are Matthew 6, 25 to 33. Matthew 6, 25 to 33. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek, for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Boys and girls, the key verse of all these scriptures is verse 33. We need to above all else seek God's right ways, and he will do what is best for us. Let's sing verse 33. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Allelu, Alleluia. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Allelu, Alleluia. There were times Maddie was afraid. The day they would find the killer in the fish pond, Maddie was so afraid. What would happen? What was the killer? Cousin Emma reminded her to trust in God. Psalm 91 helps us trust when there is danger. We can be protected. Protected just as a hen protects her chicks under her wings and soft feathers. Psalm 91. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, he is my refuge and my fortress. My God, in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flyeth by day, nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand, but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold, and see the reward of the wicked. Because he hath made the Lord which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation, there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder, the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him. I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation. Under his wings I am safely abiding, though the night deepens and tempests are wild. Still I can trust him, I know he will keep me. He has redeemed me, and I am his child. Under his wings, under his wings, who from his love can sever? Under his wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever. Under his wings, what a refuge in sorrow, how the heart yearningly turns to his rest. Often when earth has no balm for my healing, there I find comfort and there I am blessed. Under his wings, under his wings, who from his love can sever? Under his wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever. Under his wings, oh what precious enjoyment, there will I hide till life's trials are over. Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me, resting in Jesus I'm safe evermore. Under his wings, under his wings, who from his love can sever? Under his wings my soul shall abide, safely abide forever. Maddie found singing helped her when she felt blue. She still was sad at times that she could not be with her mama and that her papa had died. But she knew he was in heaven. Psalm 34 was a great help because the Lord promised to hear her when she cried. He hears us when we sing blessings and praises to him. And he also hears us when we cry. He has angels around us too. Psalm 34 I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear thereof and be glad. Oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears. They looked upon him and were enlightened and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him and delivers them. Oh taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Oh fear the Lord ye his saints for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger. But they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. Come ye children hearken unto me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord. What man is he that desireth life and loveth many days that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the Lord is against them that do evil to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry and the Lord heareth and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones, not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. Boys and girls we can sing verses 1, 2, 3 and 4. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in thee, Lord. The humble shall hear thereof and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears. Then we can sing 7 and 8. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him and delivers them. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him and delivers them. O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Cousin Emma encouraged Maddie to sing even when she felt sad. Singing always helps. In Ephesians 5 we are told how we are to sing. The second part of Ephesians 5 verse 18 and the verse 19 tells us we are to sing and make melody in our hearts with good songs. Ephesians 5, the second part of verse 18 and 19. Be filled with the Spirit speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Be filled with the Spirit speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. In one way Maddie was like a little lamb in her new home. She needed a good shepherd. She was in a new home and she had to go to a strange school. She needed to know that the Lord was with her. He was taking care of her when she was lonely. He was her good shepherd. Cousin Emma helped her read Psalm 23. Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his namesake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of the days of my life. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. And I shall feast at the table spread for me. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days all the days of my life. Maddie opened her heart to Jesus. She wanted to please him. But there were times she was naughty and she was sorry. She wanted God's mercy. She wanted him to wash her heart whiter than snow. Psalm 51 is a good prayer when one is sorry for sins. Psalm 51 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness, according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies. Blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight. That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean. Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness, that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice, else would I give it. Thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion. Build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering. Then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar. Boys and girls, here are more verses we can sing. We can sing verses 10, 11, and 12. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free spirit. Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow, now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow, now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Boys and girls, you may not understand all these words in these verses now, but as your mind grows, these verses will become more precious to you. It is good to sing as many verses and songs about scriptures as you can. It helps you to remember them better. Now get your Bible and read and sing along as you listen to this tape again. The Lord bless you, boys and girls. Goodbye from Aunt Martha. In the harvest, in the right place, there's a work. We keepers of the kingdom of God, where two or three are gathered in one place. Holy Spirit, thou art welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of mercy and grace, thou art welcome in this place. Jesus said, let the children come to me. Matthew 19, 14. As children, we are special to Jesus. In the Bible, God's word to us, we read that he showed a special love and concern to the children who came to him. One day, as Jesus taught a group of people, some parents brought their children to him. It was the custom in that time for parents to bring their children to the church to be blessed by the leaders. These parents brought their children to Jesus because they saw him as a leader. They wanted Jesus to lay his hands on the children and bless their little lives. Also, they wanted him to pray for them because they knew his prayers would be answered. In the time Jesus lived, all Jewish children were kept in the background. Baby girls were even despised by their fathers. Jesus' interest in the children was new and strange. When the children came to Jesus, his helpers told the parents to take them away and stop bothering him. They probably felt that the children were wasting Jesus' time. They knew that the older people could understand Jesus' teachings and the children couldn't. But the children were able to accept Jesus' love and blessing on them without fully understanding about him. Jesus was displeased with his helpers because they tried to send the children away. He told them, do not turn the children away. Let them come to me. And remember that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those like them. At other times, Jesus used little children as an example of those who belong to the kingdom of heaven. As the children came to Jesus, they must have felt his love for them. Some people are not kind and children are afraid of them. But Jesus drew them to him with his gentleness and kindness. He took them into his arms and held them. Jesus' enemies were uncomfortable to be around him, but the children loved him. In bringing their children to Jesus, the parents did them a real favor. Some parents care very much that their children have healthy bodies, but do not care if they don't know Jesus. Jesus is unhappy with these parents. The parents who brought their children to Jesus had a real concern that they knew and loved him. The best thing parents can do for their children is to bring them to Jesus and let them know that he loves them. Jesus is pleased with our parents when they teach us about him. He rewards them with a special happiness that only comes from him. Yes, children, our dear Lord Jesus does love us. He wants us to know and love him in return. Jesus said in Matthew 18.14, It is not the will of your Father which is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. In the Bible, mankind is referred to as sheep and we children as lambs. In the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah talked about Jesus hundreds of years before he was born. He said, He shall feed his flock like a shepherd, he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom. Isaiah 40.11 Jesus was doing this when he said, Let the children come to me, and he held them in his arms. In John 10.14, Jesus said, I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep. Jesus knows us better than anyone else. He wants us to follow him as a lamb would follow a shepherd. When we do things that we know are wrong, it makes him unhappy, but he still loves us and wants us to be sorry for what we did and ask forgiveness from the people we have wronged. Jesus wants us to be with him and be good friends. We can show our love to Jesus by the way we treat other people. We may be able to be the first ones to tell our parents that Jesus loves them too. We should tell our friends that Jesus said, Let the little children come to me. Matthew 19.14 Here is a poem that Jemima T. Luke wrote in 1841. I think when I read that sweet story of old, when Jesus was here among men, how he called little children as lambs to his fold, I should like to have been with them then. I wish that his hands had been placed on my head, that his arms had been thrown around me, and that I might have seen his kind look when he said, Let the little ones come unto me. In that beautiful place he has gone to prepare for all who are washed and forgiven, and many dear children shall be with him there, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. When I swerve in the wondrous path, On which the Prince of Glory doth With our wishes give, I am but one, Never content or poor. It is Lord, that I should live, Made in the depth of Christ my God. All the raging flesh on earth Are sacrificed unto his blood. Deep from his head is at his feet Sorrow and awe shall mingle now, Tears of sorrow and sorrow meet, For those of us so rich of brown Would think that he might Be as I so might, Like my own, my own.
