Sexual Impurity

Sexual impurity in the Bible refers to various forms of sexual conduct that are considered sinful or morally wrong according to biblical teachings. This concept encompasses a range of behaviors, including adultery, fornication, homosexuality, and incest, all of which are addressed in scripture. The term "sexual immorality" (Greek: *porneia*) often appears in the New Testament, particularly in passages such as 1 Corinthians 6:18, where Paul admonishes believers to flee from sexual immorality, emphasizing that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, sexual purity is frequently linked to the laws given to the Israelites. For example, Leviticus 18 outlines various prohibitions against incestuous relationships and other forms of sexual misconduct, highlighting God's desire for his people to maintain holiness and to reflect his character. The overarching theme in the biblical narrative is that sexual relations are designed to occur within the bounds of marriage, a covenantal relationship intended for mutual love and fidelity (Hebrews 13:4). Violating these boundaries is seen not only as a sin against God's commandments but also as a breach of the sanctity of the marital relationship.
