Expository Preaching

Expository preaching is a method of preaching that focuses on the systematic explanation and interpretation of Scripture. The goal is to convey the original meaning of the biblical text in its context, allowing the Word of God to speak for itself. This approach is rooted in the understanding that the Bible is divinely inspired and authoritative (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and it emphasizes clarity and relevance in communicating God’s message to the congregation. Key biblical examples can be found in Nehemiah 8, where Ezra the scribe reads the Law of Moses to the people, providing both the text and its interpretation so that the listeners understand what is being read. Similarly, in Luke 24:27, Jesus, after His resurrection, explains to the disciples how the Scriptures pertain to Him, demonstrating the importance of understanding Scripture in light of its full context. Expository preaching encourages preachers to engage deeply with the text, ensuring that their sermons are not merely topical or anecdotal but are firmly rooted in Scripture, fostering spiritual growth and understanding among believers.
