Corruption in the Church

3 sermons

The biblical topic of corruption in the church is a pervasive theme throughout the New Testament, with numerous warnings against the dangers of hypocrisy, greed, and abuse of power within the community of faith. As Jesus himself cautioned, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves" (Matthew 7:15), emphasizing the need for discernment and accountability among church leaders. The apostle Paul also addressed this issue, writing to the Corinthians about the importance of integrity and transparency in church governance, noting that "it is required of stewards that they be found faithful" (1 Corinthians 4:2), and similarly, in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, he warned of a future time when some would have a form of godliness but deny its power. Ultimately, the Bible calls believers to strive for holiness and purity, as expressed in Psalms 26:1, where the psalmist affirms, "I have walked in my integrity."
