Edward Panosian

Edward Panosian (August 19, 1930 – August 7, 2021) was an American preacher, historian, and educator whose ministry blended a passion for church history with compelling first-person sermons on the lives of Christian figures. Born in Elmira, New York, to Nazar and Sara Panosian, Armenian immigrants who escaped the 1915 genocide, he was raised in a godly home that instilled a deep faith. He earned a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Bible and Church History from Bob Jones University, where he taught history and church history for 52 years, retiring in 2004, while pursuing further studies at institutions like the University of Chicago and Union Theological Seminary. Panosian’s preaching career was distinguished by his unique “Church History in First Person” series, where he portrayed figures like Martin Luther and John Bunyan, delivering sermons that brought historical faith to life for audiences across multiple continents. Known for his resonant voice and dramatic delivery, he spoke at churches and conferences, emphasizing God’s providence and the enduring truths of Scripture. Beyond the pulpit, he authored articles and appeared in Christian films, amplifying his reach. Married to Betty Snyder in 1954, with whom he had three children—Mark, Matthew, and Lisa—he died at age 90 in Greenville, South Carolina, leaving a legacy of teaching and preaching marked by humility and reverence for Christ.
