Loran Helm

Reverend Loran William Helm (1916–2006). Born on February 3, 1916, in Parker City, Indiana, Loran Helm, often called Brother Helm, was an evangelical pastor and author renowned for his book A Voice in the Wilderness, which chronicles his ministry’s journey. Raised in a modest family, he felt a divine call to preach at a young age, experiencing a profound baptism of love and power early in his career that shaped his Spirit-led approach. In 1934, he married Florence Martha Spence, and they had three children, raising them amid his growing ministry. Helm’s preaching emphasized self-denial, obedience to the Holy Spirit, and pursuing revival, drawing thousands to his “Waiting on God” meetings across the U.S., where attendees sought divine guidance and unity. In the mid-1960s, he co-founded Revival For Our Day (RFOD, later Found Ministries), a nonprofit supporting his itinerant evangelism, with sermons like “Seek Ye First” (1995) and “Being Led of the Holy Spirit” (1978) preserved online. A passionate supporter of Israel, he led over 28 pilgrimages to the Holy Land and ministered in Europe and Africa. Helm authored no other major works but inspired a network of churches through RFOD’s newsletters. He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity in the late 1980s. Helm died on June 13, 2006, in Parker City, saying, “That which God begins never ends.”

I really appreciate both. Because of him, and Jim, and another precious lady, who's in here named Doris Cofield. I was sanctified a couple of weeks ago. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. I just love him dearly and thank him. Oh. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Isn't it wonderful? Amen. Oh, isn't it wonderful? Oh, the love. The love. The precious love. Jim. Come right on, Pastor. So thankful. This lady, Doris, who's here, had told Charles, Charles had told him, you're just not going to know real victory, continuing victory, unless you get sanctified. And so, the Lord impressed Jim, and some of our young people, that we ought to study a little out of the voice in the wilderness. And, you know, Charles at Parker was really enthralled going to your house that night and you sharing how the house was built by faith. And so he says, I'm going to bring a lesson on the house built by faith to our young people's meeting. But, was it a week ago Sunday or two weeks ago Sunday? Two weeks ago Sunday. Then, um... I'm getting in on this. Two weeks ago Sunday morning, Charles came forward to be sanctified at the altar. And so his lesson was that night on the voice in the wilderness, house built by faith. But all afternoon, the Lord dealt with him. And so he had to bring a lesson on the chapter on sanctification. Wonderful. Wonderful. You know, that's a... I believe that's a little lesson in self-will. That is wonderful, not self-will, you see. Changed it from the beautiful story of how Jesus provided it to coming to death. That's right. That's right. And so he did bring the lesson on sanctification then two weeks from last night. And so one of our young people, because he obeyed the Lord, one of our young people really got an experience with the Lord. Praise the Lord. Did Sally come? Sally, where are you? Sally here. There she is. Praise the Lord. She got a real experience of sanctification because of that that night. Is this not true? This gracious brother was bringing that chapter on sanctification. Yes. God laid it on him. Yes. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. I tell you, it never ends. That's right. The fruits of obedience keep going on. Yeah. And so Sally then came to our recreation night on Tuesday night. Yeah. And she was talking to her friend about this wonderful experience of sanctification that Charles had got and told her about that she had got. Amen. Praise the Lord. And so they had a youth planning meeting to plan some things for all the rest of the summer, you know. And right in the middle of their planning meeting she brought her friend up and said, Rebecca wants to be sanctified. And so Rebecca is here. Rebecca? Yes. Praise the Lord. Did you not have real experience with the Lord? Yes, he did. Praise the Lord. Thank you, God. So I thought this was important. When you say important, that operates in my heart. Amen. How the Lord worked to James to bring him there. To love the son. Yes. And to be loved by his parents so that his parents wouldn't feel uneasy when he would go 300 miles to my home church. And then he found real precious victory and grew more. He probably grew more in that revival in my home church than most people in my community have. Yes. At times. Or for some times. Or for a long time. Amen. And then, by God's grace, he's been going. That's since last August. He's been going on. And then if I remember, am I still saying it right when God had James go and talk to Mother and Dad so he could come to be with us at Selma? Yes. Isn't that wonderful? James wants to talk to Mother and Dad to see if it would be alright to take him. Did you enjoy that meeting? Amen. Oh! Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. How's the Lord doing for you in this meeting? He's really lifting me up. It's been a spiritual help, really. Oh. Has it encouraged you? Yes. That 10 hours just had been very long for you? Well, me and Jim didn't get down until yesterday night because Jim had to preach. Did you enjoy? Did you enjoy what you got here last night? Oh, yeah. Praise the Lord. Amen. Has these almost, not quite 3 hours, seemed very long to you? Oh, no. It's beginning, really. Praise the Lord. Isn't it wonderful? Amen. I'll tell you, just think, Brother Andre, what it means to have you and Blanche there. We found Him. More than the world. Right. More than the world. Amen. Who knew it would come to the kingdom at such a time as this? Amen. Praise the Lord. Amen. It's so precious. You can feel the love, too, can't you, in your heart? Yes. Amen. I'm sure glad. I'll tell you, that's important, is that precious love that we feel in our hearts once or another, even though He's not used to standing up before 500 or 600 people. But God's helping us anyhow, isn't He? Yeah. And I'm glad. I'm thankful. Thank you very much for coming out. Is there anything else you'd like to praise the Lord for? Let's thank Him for standing on the cross and that He's so merciful and a loving God. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Praise the Lord. May the Lord encourage you in the words of truth, in goodness and obedience, not self-will, but through God's will, giving you strength to not be discouraged, He lifted us. So thank the Brother and Sister Roundtree, God working through them and James, for this precious boy. This for the car. Praise the Lord. We have to pray for this precious lamb now so that the dear ones in Burke City have a great responsibility now so that there won't be any heart, self-willness. If there's any self-willness in any heart in Burke City, you see, you might get an infection, get discouraged. So by the wayside, see if he can find plenty of milk and beautiful things of Jesus that will let him grow up in the stall of God's purpose and leap out into the field of their white tarpon. Oh, we're preaching on not self-will. We're still there. And leaders, Christians, are to be not self-will. And so God brought James over there and the Lord just blessed him and blessed him and he was so happy and so thrilled. I got a letter from some precious sister in the church and she told me, she said, you know, when Reverend Roundtree's away in revival or meetings in Anderson where he is needed with the precious men, she said, you know, James just goes ahead and carries for the flock just like he does. She said, he just carries on. She was trying to tell, she told me in a good job of telling me how God just worked with his son to help the flock. Do you think that encouraged us? Hallelujah. It's about worth the whole trip from Knoxville up here, wasn't it, Gilbert? I don't know the sweetness of Jesus' love, His presence and His love. Oh, that's just about worth the trip around the world, isn't it? Hallelujah. Sister Maria, are you here? Sister Maria, are you here? Hallelujah. Oh, come up here, daughter. My wife and I had always wanted, now she was born in Austria in the Roman church and of course we didn't know her. We didn't know her and my wife always wanted to go to Chalet. We waited years and years but two years ago this summer I said, honey, we're able now to go to the Chalet. They told me, you said last night that if you got any more you didn't know whether you could stand it. You were so full you didn't know whether you could endure any more. That's right. Praise the Lord. Would you come right up here and stand? But, you know, dear ones, I'm talking about not self-will. Now, the self of us would have been at the Chalet years ago before she ever got out of Austria. But we couldn't get to Chalet until she got over here from Austria. And then I said, honey, we can go now. And we went in and I rested, you know. I wrote my name down and I started praising the Lord Jesus. And she came right over there where I was. She said, you are my brother in the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, I must say when Brother Helm entered the door of the motel it was just like light hitting me and I knew that was God hitting me. And I knew it was the Holy Spirit communicating and that was it. Praise the Lord. Amen. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Hallelujah. Thank you, Jesus. And I tell you one thing. I'm not worried about the heathens anymore. God is big enough to reveal Himself to everyone that is seeking Him. Yes. And I'm a living example. I was searching God. And I know even the searching wasn't from me. It was God in me. Yes. Drawing me. And I have found what I was looking for all my life. Just think when you went out and you told me, Maria, you hadn't found, you could hardly find what you thought was a real Christian. Yes, that's right. That's right. When I came to the United States and I could share Jesus and I was normal, you know, I was a hopeless fanatic over there and I was normal. I really had to touch myself if I wasn't in heaven already. I said, Lord, is that... You don't know how sweet the fellowship is. But you know it. Thank you, Jesus. It's so great to be here and I praise God every moment of my life to send me into this country that I could enjoy what I am enjoying. And He promised me that I would... The Lord told me to stay, you know, and He showed me in the Scriptures that He would give me much more than I ever had. Praise the Lord. And He did. Amen. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. Thank you, Jesus. Oh, that's so wonderful. That's so precious. You know, after we registered, you know, and my wife and you and I, you said, oh, wouldn't you have time just to come in here in the lobby where we could talk about Jesus? Yes. Could you just share with me a little while? Thank you. And oh, we got in there and we talked about the kingdom. And did we get happy? Oh, yes. Oh, I didn't belong in that beautiful place. That's a beautiful, beautiful scenery of the mountains. It's beautiful. Yes. And oh, we were delighted. We had so much to share. I just couldn't get it all shared, just a little at a time. Thank you, Jesus. It was so precious, wasn't it? It truly was. Oh, yeah. And then after we found you, you know, we were so delighted. We want our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters to meet you that they might know about how Jesus had lifted you and get your spirit so you could fellowship in the holy kingdom of God. Thank you, Jesus. Do you remember that time when some of my brothers and sisters, sons and daughters came in and oh, what a meeting we had? Praise Jesus. Praise Jesus. What a presence. It truly was. It truly was. I've never been loved in my life before to such an extent as I have been loved in this fellowship. And Brother Joe is one of my dearest brothers. And Gypsy is here, too. That's right, Gypsy. And in Scott Depot, that's where I experienced it the first time. I've been loved in two days. I was love sick, you know. I had to say, Lord, quit. I can't stand anymore. So that's what I was. Isn't that wonderful? And she's loved because the Holy Ghost guided in 51 in 1964. She eats at the table in the banquet place of that guidance of the Holy Ghost, of Jesus Christ. Thank you, Jesus. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. And then you asked my wife and me to come over to the house where you had some young people. And we got into a meeting over there and shared with them about the kingdom of God. And didn't the Lord bless us? Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Wonderful. I think somebody told me the next night after we were there, there was a soul victory. Oh, yes. There surely was. And I want you all to pray because the Lord right now is drawing us together. And the burden we have is that warmness in the Spirit. And you know the devil has never fought us more than right now. Because as I heard Brother Hope preaching last night, you know, if you preach love, love, then the flesh is stirred up and it gets worse. And I was asking myself, what am I doing wrong? You know, but it's not really. It's the devil who gets mad. Oh, yes. You know, and I know something great is going to happen in Gothenburg. But the devil doesn't like it. And he fights it more than he ever did before. But I know Jesus is going to have the victory. You know, when it looks hopeless in our eyes, then the biggest hope is for Jesus because then all the glory goes to Him and not to us. All the glory to Jesus. Hallelujah. All the glory to Jesus. Praise the Lord. Thank you, Jesus. Oh, thank you, Maria. Thank you. So thankful the Lord brought this daughter from Austria. And she was longing. She longed. She said, I'm longing to find somebody that knew Jesus. She told me two years ago and my wife. She said, I just looked. I looked here and there for somebody that really knew Jesus that I could fellowship with about Jesus. And if I understood it right, she didn't find anyone. So she got to this country that she could fellowship with in the Holy Ghost. Not self-will, but doing God's will. Doing what God says to do. Now this daughter is now in fellowship with these loved ones because the Holy Spirit led. Because the Holy Ghost. Self was not. You see, the self of us would have stopped at the first motel when my wife was sick. Or the second or the third. But the self had to be resisted and go on and pray for my wife to sit up so we could get to the right place. And the fifth motel. That's where we got gypsy. God said, this is the place. And now she's feasting on that avenue. For that fellowship. Then over here. Self didn't go into rest. Self had to say, no, you can't. We'll do God's will by God's grace through Jesus Christ. And then she has this fellowship with Betty and Joseph. He said, not self-will. Not self-will. You see, we're in school. We're in the university. We're in the university here. And they shall all be taught of God. Not a man talking to them, but all taught of God. What does that mean? They'll be taught of God by the leadership of the Holy Ghost. See this? Through Jesus can be here as you listen by the Holy Ghost as He reveals Himself through the channel that comes by the gift and the call of the mighty God of the ages. Not self-will. I was sent to pray with our brother here. Come up, brother Pumphrey. You see, if we had done what the pastor and the elder, the head elder of the church wanted, we would have missed you. That's right. Because they said, why wouldn't you go to Mill Grove? $800. Why wouldn't you take Red Key Circuit? $800, extra parking, more money. But I said, you said, doctor, that there were three. He said, but he'd only pay $700. I said, Jesus tells me that's the place. Now you see, self would have wanted something. But see, God wanted me there because if I'd have missed Red Key Circuit, I'd have missed you. Because one year afterward, Phyllis Brooks Smith sent you up where we were because the Holy Ghost told me in 37 to go to that place. And the Holy Ghost gave a revival there like hadn't been there for about 40 years. That's right. And that's been 37 years ago now. That's right. By God's grace. That's right, by God's grace. And because of that guidance, not self-will, through the Holy Spirit, through Jesus' guidance, not to do, not to seek any modern prosperity, not to seek modern facilities, but to seek God's will. Amen. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. We found you. Praise the Lord. Isn't that praises? Praise the Lord. Because we found you and you and I became in one to Jesus and our fellowship in the Holy Ghost. And it's been so sweet. You and I used to have this wonderful fellowship we've had here today in 1942 through Jesus Christ. And it'd be so wonderful. You used to tell me, how could tomorrow be better than today? That's right. How could it ever get better than today? You remember that? You were 25 years old, 24. That's right. Praise the Lord. See, that's been over 37 years ago. That's true. Praise the Lord. And we'd have such a wonderful time in the Holy Spirit. I'd start to tell you something. You'd say, I receive the Holy Spirit. That I would have the witness that you'd have it. And we'd both be so delighted over the fact that God had gone to stand to two little boys and give us the Spirit. We were just, what would you say? How happy were we? We were happy. See, I get excited about this. Oh, I do too, brother. Oh, I know it. I do too. Isn't that praises? Yeah. But we've had times on the telephone. Yes. And cars and trains. Yes. Planes. Amen. Even by the Dead Sea. Amen. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Yes. It's great. Yes. But when you went to Texas, when God took you to Texas, that took me down there with you. Yes. And God would send me to pray 2,100 miles with you and your father-in-law time after time. That's right. Take me a day down and a day back on a train. Yes. Trust the Lord from a spare to get down there and we just pray. And we talk about the kingdom. We talk about the revival we're waiting for. 25 years ago. That's right. 30 years ago. You did. Over 30 years ago. That's right. Yes. In Texas. We were trusting in Texas for the Holy Ghost revival in 1943. That's right, brother. That's right there. Yes. Not just here in Indiana. Yes. We went out in the pasture that day. We'd go out in the woods in the pasture and pray and wait for the trees and say, Oh, we're trusting for the revival. Amen. Praise the Lord. Amen. We should have listened to the trees to sing that night. Oh, that has been a melody. Oh, yeah. Oh, my. I wonder how the trees felt while we were praying. I wonder if the birds helped us out. You know, when I'd pray at the bars at midnight and they'd have the birdcage all covered and the glory would come down at about midnight or one in the morning and the glory was falling and the birds began to sing. The heart. Yes. sing, sing, sing, sing, sing. It was a long way to shut up. When the glory would fall on us, we'd get in a furby and the glory would fall and the birds would sing. They'd just sing rather than look in the dining room. They'd just listen to the birds. They're singing. When the glory was falling, they'd just sing every night with us. Yes. Oh, I don't know how many times that happened. See, they were here last night. They could tell you that they heard that. Yeah. And the birds would sing when we'd get to pray, and the glory would fall down on us. And Jesus took us to Hue in Texas, and we'd pray together. He took me down there one day, God sent me down to pray with Him, with His father-in-law, and with His white people. And while I was there, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, You're going to Ned and Martha Harness' home. When you get back home, you're going to Martha and Ned's. I had never been in that house since 1922, passed it since 1922. This is 75. I've passed that home over 53 years now, but I'd never been in the home. But at your place while I was there, He just showed me, He revealed to me that I was going there. I'm talking about not self-will. Is there anything on your heart that you'd like to praise the Lord about? I was thinking a moment ago, as a pastor, I have a lot of people ask me to pray that they may find God's will. I was rejoicing how the Lord had helped James and Charles. I wanted you to pray, I know there are a lot of people here, if God's willing, right now, that we all, and those who are searching for God's will, might find it. Yes, it could be a whole sermon on how to find God's will. One of the most wonderful ways to find God's will is what we're doing now. Just waiting here now, listening. This is the way to find it. This is one way, this is the way. On to prayer, to do just what God's leading now, letting God have His way with us. As we pray and read the word, see, we're right now on the trail to find out God's will. What we're doing here, see, everyone that's been up here, everything that's happened, see, it's helping us to find God's will, it's teaching us lessons. If you could perceive all the lessons God's given here today, I don't know how many lessons He's given here, if you could read them, if you could read them, if anybody's walked with God long enough, the things that God has done here today, you'd be so, I don't know what has happened to you. Praise the Lord. Amen. Who's that registered with any of you? Oh, yes, our brother here is so delighted, praise God. And this is the way we start, is to wait upon the Lord. And let Him refine out of us this self-will. Because as long as self is in there, self won't allow God's will to be done. Praise the Lord, yes. Self has to be denied before God's will is accomplished. True. So it's right on the sermon. Praise the Lord. Isn't that wonderful? Amen. So we can pray and say, Jesus, help everyone to be patient and to die out so they can pursue in waiting and yield in this too, so that Thee can reveal Thy will to us. As you see fit, it's your time. Not to push a button and get it immediately, but just let God work it out in minutes or hours or seconds or years. Praise the Lord. Now Jesus, we just pray for each one of us to be patient and to be yielded and to be willing and to be crucified and to say, oh Lord, not my will, but Thy will be done and to eradicate and to eliminate and to move out of us and take out of us through the blood of Jesus Christ. All those things, those elements, those traits that are hindering from finding Thy will, Jesus we pray that that will remove out of all of us all these little trees these little incentives It's in us all men and women have them unless they're cleansed out with the blood purged for the Holy Ghost Or we go in the earthly plan and the purpose That's what our organized church has done as you know Jesus that we need to not just follow a program or a pattern but simply wait upon these so they can lead it Now there's some places churches that are doing this. Yes, and persons in the churches that are doing this Jesus We're glad for that. But Jesus we pray that we'll be willing here to heal ourselves to die out completely That be could teach us how to begin to pursue thy will to be done. Praise the Lord It's a many places regard that is what how joyous would they be today be happy Along the road when God got me out between you and that brother to love that fella in that big crush He said who sent you down here. I said what Jesus told me to come over here He thought the neighbors had called up clear to Harper City and sent me down there He said who was it that told you to come down and see me. I said I never did see you I said stop the car right there tonight. That's right. I started talking. I said I have to get out I love him. I got to love it and find out they'd had a lot of trouble there That's right. That's right. We went in the house and had a meeting. Yeah, it was a wonderful experience God gave us such love for that man in the ditch. Yeah, he was actually in the ditch. Yes Yes, he was laughing at first when you began to love him. He began to cry Begin to weep because he knew it was real You didn't have many people love him before I don't know what he had anyone really love him Thank you. Jesus sent you by. Oh, isn't that a high privilege that there is about 19 and 43 That's right. Praise the Lord. Amen. Praise the Lord. I'm so thankful. Praise the Lord. It's a privilege to be with all your children. Yes. Praise the Lord. We got into this little place. Let's say Saturday and I had gone to this Garage to have the Lord helped me do in 45 minutes have tires balanced have the car washed Go to the next town pick up a person. I was supposed to about 45 minutes But in the middle of it when my car was in this garage My daughter had asked me to get a copy of the voice in the wilderness and bring it to her So I ran by the office put the book in the car ran to the garage ran to other places came back And this boy looked through the window of my car at the book a little young man about 21 So he kept a little beard that he had. Yeah modern very modern looking a man. Yes, sir Now here I'm there for tire balance You're here for time Yes, and he keeps looking in the book and I'm on the other side of the car and he looks over said you have a book In your car, which was very obvious, but why he should talk about it You have a book in your car a lot of cars. Yeah, and I said it rather loudly It's a religious book like this because I thought this is the only way to tell him So he comes around to where I am and keeps asking me about the book Here you've written the book with God's grace and here I'm feeling so proud of that book I thought I'd written it myself Pick it up and I said, would you like to have this book? I've had a few more in the office because great He said yes, isn't that marvelous again? We get a dealing of a holy ghost when you say that that Yeah, it's going right on with when I drove off this young man as it is workbench reading the voice of the wilderness. I Was supposed to be there brother see I didn't know it. Oh, I was in such a hurry I jumped the cyclone fancy and I'm a little old to be doing that The only injury was at this hand and the Lord's already tested I was on such a precious journey to get in this book, but when I went I drove away I just got such a blessing. Is that precious yesterday when we hit this little trial? I got off and said now Lord who in this garage am I supposed to tell about you? Is that right all the way you see living? I wanted to tell the group up here Yes, sir, that they're ahead of us who don't get to be with you real often True see spiritually those who are in on the one-day waiting's They're ahead of us who only come up about once or twice a year to learn what God how to be obedient See, this is a whole new thing a man in the church 20 odd years. He doesn't know how to do it I was there. I wanted to go see Emory. I thought I was supposed to see Emory I didn't know when I asked for the bar soap in the motel. I sort of I want a bar soap I've paid so much for this motel. I said why isn't there? He said because of you see that's why the soap isn't there to get me to learn this a message of a self-denial Which is so precious that it happened to us years ago. Yes, and as we drove up I don't know whether the Lord would have you pray about this or not and some of the brothers One of my daughters said, you know Daddy, I wish we could have a waiting in Texas and the Lord would send you and your staff and We could come to Texas and all of the people there could come in You could go to Oklahoma by God's grace I mean and pace it right so your body could stand it People could come in for a day two day waiting go to California the Lord leading and come in for a waiting there So we could sort of keep up Wonderful it's a privilege to be able to come. Yes, and if you'll have me in Texas in the waiting before long I Was telling my congregation The other morning message and I said we go to the waiting I never and I said, you know If you want to be a committed Christian, you've got a you must throw the clock away. It's all got to be Yeah, talk to you don't see you watch the clock is 10 to 12 Yeah, 5 to 12 3 to 12 2 to you know people get to watching we ought to be out here So I said we've stood but God's grace for an hour Just standing and I remember one of the waiting so I looked back at one young woman She didn't know that I was noticing this and she sort of collapsed and said Anna and me said oh They took her out for a moment. They sort of revived got a drink She was back in in a few moments standing up again for Jesus. Praise the Lord. Oh, I love that. Oh, yeah So I said we stand in our sometimes we pray in our we just wait. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, let him lead it But when I come back home It's like a ship going into port all the old barnacles that had gotten on the old hook. It's they're gone Brother, I'm in a different world for a while brother. Oh, yeah With God and we just have to come back off of the mountaintop into the valley again But praise the Lord for the very crazy crazy. Thank you, brother Thank you, not self-will but doing God's will Doing God's will When you were talking about the voice in the wilderness a while ago about sanctification the chapter on sanctification Remind me of the letter that James has I don't know whether he has it here with him but there's a a little note that he has and This note that he has a little letter is from a precious sister of Jesus somewhere. I don't worry. She lives in Notre Dame up at Notre Dame and This precious David Lumler is his name He was out someplace and he saw a precious brother and he gave him a voice in the wilderness He was a Catholic monk and he gave this precious brother the voice in the wilderness this dear brother brother Edward, he took the book and gave it to this sister and this sister read this book and She wrote David This note to give God glory and praise for what God had done for her Would you like to come and read that to Jesus glory? You would give Jesus will you give Jesus all the glory and all the praise and look to him and not the any of us Will you do that? When you give Jesus all the glory and all the praise and all the honor will you do that? Will you look to Jesus? Will you give all the praise and all the glory and all the honor to God when you do that, are you sure you will? When St. John got this to bring home to read to me, when he opened it up, he said, I got something, I believe it, I don't know what to tell you about it. I said, oh, I wonder what it's going to be, because sometimes I get notes that are not always in the positive, some in the negative sometimes. And he said, I've got something here, and I began to receive the witness of the Holy Ghost. And he started reading this letter, I had the witness before he started, and I didn't know what God was doing with me, but it was so sweet. So when James then came and he read it, the Holy Ghost began to witness to him. See how this book got into her hands, through David, to the Catholic monk, to this precious one. Because they're all precious, each one of them. To another kindred spirit. Some time ago, Brother Edward of Holy Cross House shared with me a book you gave him entitled A Voice in the Wilderness by Lorne Helm. I found it a most unusual book, not at all what I expected it to be. So much so that I am re-reading those portions on conversion and sanctification that especially impressed me. One cannot help but marvel at the purity and simplicity of this man's thoughts and deeds and his complete abandonment to divine providence. For some years now, I have been studying in books and in the silence of my own thinking the nature and development of man's spiritual consciousness in the lives of saints, philosophers and seekers after truth. This is the first I have learned of such a rarity. So close to home and in our own contemporary world, Lorne Helm is indeed that rarity, a most saintly man. This mechanic in this, what he looked through and saw that book that got a hold of him and that taught him how the Lord had blessed, how he had worked and how he had encouraged his people, not self-will. God told me at his place that I was going to Ned and Martha's home. I hadn't been there since 1922, past the place, never been in the house. I got back, the first day went by, the second day went by, when I awoke in the third morning, the Holy Spirit said, today you're going to Martha and Ned's home. He also told me I'd go 55 to 60 miles for prayer. He said I would go to this home for prayer, I'd go to the Friar's home and the order home and then I would come back and I would go out to get my wife at the schoolhouse. He said, I want you, and then he led me within my heart. Well as I waited to go get my wife, school was not quite out, I went to the grocery store and I got a dollar's worth or something like that, a beefsteak for our supper that evening. And when I bought that, I said to Ned, I said, how is Martha? She had been in an accident in Muncie just a few days before and he said, well I think she's getting better, she's a little shook up, but I believe she's improved. And he didn't know that God had told me I was going to their home for prayer. I took the meat, and when I took the meat, I'm preaching on not self-will. Because when I took the meat, you see, there was something of self and the earthly man would have said, take that meat down home to Mother Spence, say I went home and got her after Dad died and took her home and kept her with us until she left us to go into eternity. Self would have taken that meat home and given it to Mother. The Holy Spirit said, do not go home with the meat. You keep it with you. Not self-will. I went out to the school, got my wife, came back to Ned and Martha Harness's home. There was my car. When my daughters came by the school, they said, I wonder why Daddy isn't at Harness's? Never had been there before. I went in and my wife and I saw Sandra, a young girl that grew up with our daughter Joyce, and I told her, I said, I'm supposed to pray for your mother today. That was Edna. She said, no wonder Mother was operated today for gallbladder. See, I had a burden for her that morning, and I didn't know she was operated for gallbladder. But I said, Sandra, they just leave two houses down from Ned and Martha. I said, I've been burdened for your mother, and I need to pray she was operated today, she said, for gallbladder. So I said, well, we're going to Ned and Martha's. She said, I am too. So she went right in the front door of Ned and Martha's with us. Here was Sandra and my wife and myself. We come in to Ned and Martha's, and I get down to the house, and I begin to pray, and I can hear Martha in the kitchen, and she's, if you knew Martha, she's like you've never met anyone else like her, understood anybody else like her that I know of. She's just one of God's children that's just so precious too, just like you are. And after a little while, I hollered out, and I said, Martha, may we come out in the kitchen? Of course, I didn't know whether I could or not, but I thought since I had my wife with me, you see, and we were together, and she had her house cool on, I could go out and just talk to her and have a little prayer with her. Oh, she said, oh, yes, I thought you were coming out, I thought you were coming out. In other words, a minute or two before this, but you see, I was praying, I couldn't get out there. Well, we went out, and here was my wife, and here was Sandra, and here was Martha, and we fell into a meeting, and the glory of the Lord came upon us, and it was so precious. I want to tell you what was so wonderful, and in the midst of this wonderful, wonderful, wonderful experience, Jesus with us, she said, well, I called Grace and told her, have you come down here this afternoon? I said, what? Well, she said, didn't Grace tell you? I said, no, I haven't seen her since morning. Not self-willed. Well, she said, she said, well, I feel chills all over me. Oh, that makes it worse. Oh, my mind is going to clear down. She said, didn't Grace tell you I wanted you to come? I haven't been there since 22, 1922, it's past, I've never been in the house. She said, I said, no, I've never seen Mother since morning. I said, I've known for three days I was coming here, he told me in Texas. Oh, she said, Grace didn't tell you that I wanted to talk to you? I said, no. She said, a man came in here to sell us a Buick car, a salesman, and I got to preaching to him. She said, I never did such a thing. I got so happy, and she said, you're the only person I could think of, I had to tell it right away. So I called down there, and I said, get him down here so I can tell him this experience I've had with a Buick salesman about the kingdom of God. Not self-will. Now, you see, if I'd taken that stake, you see, home, she could have told me. You see, God wants us to wait upon Him and do God's will. Oh, God's seeking for a people. He wants you to do God's will, not your own will, not my will. It's not self-will. He wants us to be blameless. He wants us to trust Him. Not self-will. Now, it's time for lunch right now. I've been on my feet approximately for three hours and twenty-some minutes, except when I was on my knees, I think, a while ago, and sitting right here just a moment or so. Well, the Lord's been so wonderful to us today. Have you had a good lesson? Have you enjoyed the class? And they shall all be taught of God. You see, the Lord didn't say sing. We haven't had a congregational number. We had quite a prayer meeting here for a while. The Lord has just led in preaching. He's just told me to have preaching. This concludes the morning session, June 23, 1975. In the afternoon session, Jesus was sweetly led for special music, for exhortation, testimony, and an unusual series of congregational hymns and choruses that led to this following sharing and exhortation. One of the persons in Jerusalem told some of our folk that it was just worth her journey over there to hear the group that was with us sing for Jesus, God's pilgrim. So it was worth her trip. When we were in Venice, a very beautiful lady stopped my wife and me, and she said to my wife, she said, are you the group that was singing out here on St. Mark's Square? I said, yes. Oh, how blessed she was. How thrilled she was to hear that. What did she say, honey? She said it was worth her trip there also to hear the group singing. This beautiful sister told my wife it was worth her trip from America to Venice to hear how God sang to his people. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind, but now I see. One of our guides in Gothenburg, when we sang in the square. Yes. At Old Medieval City. Yes, sir. Said to me, and he was an opera singer, he would have been fine to be a critic. But he said to me, it sounds like an organ. And it did. Oh, great. I tell you, when you get the people together that God leads together by the Holy Ghost, God gets in the midst of the chords and puts a little more in it. Amen. You see, we're all together here because the Holy Ghost has led us these 30 to 40 years. This group is here because the Holy Ghost led at a certain time. They influenced us and that brought us there through the Holy Ghost. And then all these, through these all the years, God's leading. They all come together in one mind, one accord, without criticism, without any of that something within. I just say, well, we'll just trust Jesus. Amen. Oh, we've got it all to praise the Lord for it. Oh, I tell you, praise God, the Father, Jesus Christ, the Son, the Holy Ghost for the leading of the Holy Ghost. Praise God. Praise the Lord. Oh, how much pivots upon your faith and your trust. While we were praising God, then it just dawned on me that your brother and sister Morgan would have doubted us in 1950. We would have about 65, 70% of the people here. They wouldn't be here if they had doubted it. 65 to 70% of the people are here because they believed what the Lord had me to share with them. Now we have the organ. We have God's people, God's people together to believe, or is it God, to trust in the kingdom of God. Praise the Lord. But oh, how significant it is that you believe everywhere just what Jesus wants you to do. Because you don't know what's pivoting on you. It may be one soul, it may be two, it may be a thousand, it may be a million or millions. And it never ends. If only we will have faith to believe and give Jesus all the glory. He must have all the praise and all the honor. We must all times want and desire so much. As much as we want to walk with God, we want to more so give God all the glory and all the praise for Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We must want and desire down at the bottom, the depth, the very outside, the circumference, the diameter, the inner center of the circle of our life to give God all the praise and all the glory and all the honor, all the thanksgiving, hallelujahs in every way. For all he has done, what he will do and what he'll ever do. Praise the Lord. He must have all the praise and all the glory. Portions of the afternoon session, June 23rd, 1975, are continued on tape number eight. Thank you.
