The Activity of the Holy Spirit in a Believer's Life
Peter Brandon

Peter Brandon (1928 - 1994). English Bible teacher, author, and Plymouth Brethren preacher born in Bristol. Converted at 15 in 1943 through a local gospel meeting, he left school at 16 to work as a clerk, later becoming a quantity surveyor. Called to full-time ministry in 1956, he traveled widely across the UK, North America, Australia, and Asia, speaking at Open Brethren assemblies and conferences. Known for his warm, practical expositions, he emphasized personal holiness and Christ’s return. Brandon authored books like Born Crucified (1970), focusing on discipleship, and contributed to The Believer’s Magazine. Married to Margaret in 1952, they had three children, raising them in Bournemouth, a hub for his ministry. His teaching, often recorded, stressed simple faith and scriptural authority, influencing thousands in Brethren circles. Brandon’s words, “The cross is not just where Christ died, but where we die daily,” encapsulated his call to surrendered living. Despite health challenges later in life, his writings and sermons remain cherished among evangelicals for their clarity and zeal.

Sermon Summary
Peter Brandon emphasizes the transformative activity of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life, explaining that through the Spirit, Christians are freed from the law of sin and death. He highlights the importance of recognizing one's identity in Christ, which leads to a life of victory and holiness, as opposed to being dominated by the flesh. Brandon encourages believers to actively engage with the Holy Spirit, mortifying the deeds of the body and living in the Spirit to experience true life and peace. He illustrates the necessity of relying on the Spirit's power for spiritual growth and victory over sin, ultimately leading to a deeper relationship with God. The sermon concludes with a call for believers to embrace their identity as children of God and to live out their faith vibrantly.

Romans chapter 8, and we're going to turn immediately to verse 1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit. Now I'm so glad that that last clause is not in the original, because it would mean there's no condemnation only whilst you're walking in the spirit, and therefore there would be no real eternal security. So it should be read, there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, thus to, for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. And we can all say when we read that after going through an experience of Romans 7, thank you Lord. It's a wonderful thing to know that there is, for what the law could not do in that it was weak through. Now that's a very strange verse, because we are told that the flesh, well how can it be weak and strong? Can you see the problem? It's strong to do that which is evil, and it's weak to do that which is good. And therefore it's weak to do that which is good, it hasn't them. God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin meaning a sin offering, condemns sin in the flesh. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, and they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit. For to be carnally or fleshly minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit. If so be that the spirit of God dwelling you. Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his, and that means he's not a Christian. And if Christ being you, the body is dead, that's your physical body, because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelling you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken his spirit that dwelleth in you. He'll not only make your spirit and soul alive, he does that the moment the second time, he will give complete redemption to your body. And then your salvation will be complete. Therefore brethren we are debtors, not to the flesh to live after the flesh, for if we live after the flesh ye shall die. But if through the spirit to mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live. For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Now if I can get through those 14 verses it will be good. So we have seen this ugly thing the law of sin in our members. We looked at it last night and all of us hated it. And we discovered number one that the Holy Spirit comes to us to reveal in us the presence of that ugly law. Then the conflict goes on to show to us that there is nothing that we can possibly do to improve the flesh to the satisfaction of God. Thirdly the conflict goes on in order to give to us a profound hatred for every single sight of the flesh. And fourthly the Holy Spirit comes to us and creates the conflict so that we might have an insatiable desire for victory. So that we cry out from the depth of our being, who shall deliver me? And when we are there God will open our eyes and show to us that there is another power within us vastly greater than the power of that ugly thing called the flesh. Now I'm going to split the whole narrative up. We shall look at verse 9 and see that the law of the spirit of life is a wonderful position. Secondly we shall go back to that it's ugly. Then we shall look at verses 3 to 4 and we shall see it's a divine accomplishment. Then we shall look at verses 5 to 8 to see that it is a composed state of mind to be in the good of the law of the spirit of life. Then we shall see that it is the privileged responsibility of every single believer so that he might live. And then lastly we shall see that it's a spiritual condition because those who are led by the spirit of God they are the sons of God. So let's look at verse 9 again so that we can see that it's the position of every believer. But ye are not in the flesh meaning in Adam but in the spirit if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you. Now when a person becomes a Christian God takes that person out of the family of Adam. Now how does he take him out of the family of Adam? By that person recognizing that when Christ died upon the cross he died a substitutional death for that person's sins and therefore in the sight God says that we have all died for that is the meaning. Then we are told in Romans 6 that we have not only been baptized into Christ Jesus and therefore we have been the finality of death and therefore what God is saying is this through the substitutional death of Christ you've all been buried and then because Christ was raised from the dead and he was raised from the dead by the Holy Spirit, verse 11 tells us that, that same Holy Spirit that raised the Lord Jesus from the dead actually dwells in you and therefore he wants to give you here and now a resurrected so that when you become a Christian God says three things through his substitutional death you have died therefore you've lost all your links with Adam. You have lost those links with Adam so finally that in the sight of God you have been and when Christ was raised from the dead the same Holy Spirit that raised him from the dead dwells in you and therefore you have been resurrected with him and not only have you been resurrected with him you are actually seated with him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. If you could float out of your body thank God you can't and if you could get where the Almighty God is and if you saw yourself as God sees you right now that's not me it is you. Why you see me complete in Christ? That's right. Why already I have died in him? That's right. Already I have been buried in him? That's right. There's only one life in me and that's the risen life of the Lord Jesus. Yes that's correct and I'm seated with him in heavenly places and I'm clothed in all his righteousness. Oh I never knew I was like that. Well that's how I see you and then the Almighty God would say this. Do you think I could see your flesh nature strutting about in my presence unjudged? Oh no. I've judged it all substitutionally through his death and then you would say well the Spirit of God dwells in me. Exactly. You're born again. You're a new creature. You're complete in him. Then you would go back to the body and you would say I'm holy. I'm a saint because he's made me a saint and because he has made you holy now he expects you to live holy and because you're a saint he expects you to live in a saintly way. You see in the old testament you didn't have any saints because they couldn't keep the law. Now the Lord has judged everything that's against him in you at the cross and through the incoming of the Holy Spirit he has made you holy. He has made you a saint. Now he expects you to be. You see my dear friends there are hundreds of people trying to be rich but they but if someone comes along you're infinitely rich. In fact you're not only a son you're an heir. Oh I could shout that at the top of my voice. You're an heir. Not to the king or to a queen but you're an heir with the son and with God himself and he's going to share the glory of his kingdom with you and therefore he wants you to see immediately that the Holy God doesn't see you like that. He sees you still in Adam that's the human family. He sees you still in your sins. He sees you still breaking the law of God and that's why you need to be forgiven and made right with God. Now secondly let's go back now. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in. When you see yourself in Christ in the heavenlies and you see that you're completely in him and you're one of his children there can cause all the condemnation and the Lord can't punish you twice. It's all on him. Now he says for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Now first of all note the dignity of this discovery. The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. He is called the spirit of God. Not an inferior member of the Godhead. Someone who in every single detail is co-equal with God. Think of it and that spirit of God dwells in you. See how holy we are now. No wonder Paul uses those breathtaking words. What? Know ye not that your body is the inner temple of the Holy Ghost. Secondly the spirit of Christ is in you. That means he's there within you to reveal the Lord Jesus as a person and he's there within you to invade your personality so that the beauty and the loveliness of the Lord might be seen in you. What a dignity. And then he is called the Holy Spirit and forgive me emphasizing this again because he wants to produce in you holiness given to him. So you can see the dignity of the discovery. Now let's look at the quickening discovery. Notice what he has called the law of the spirit of life not death. Whenever you have spiritual death in a local church. Whenever you have spiritual death in the life of. If you go through the old and the new testament you will find that God hates death. When a person in the old testament touched a dead body he was unclean for three days. You see God will never be satisfied until he swallows up death in victory. And therefore when you were born again you had within you the gift of eternal life. And that means you're going to live forever. I know very foolishly we say that Mr Jones was dead he's not dead. No such thing as death with a Christian. The Lord Jesus changed the word into sleep and it doesn't mean a long sleep it means just the dose. And that has nothing to do with the body praise God that has nothing to do with the soul and the spirit that is related to the body. And therefore when the spirit of God comes within you he wants to bring life. You see all this monotony that we find in the local church all this spiritual death and death is so wrong. It shows that the spirit's being grieved. When the Holy Spirit is moving among a group of people ungrieved we shall see in a few moments he's there to bring life in all its glory. But not mechanical life. You know I know some people they try and react in drama the life of the spirit. God doesn't want this. No such thing as play acting. The word play acting is the same word as it and therefore when he comes among us he is the spirit of life. Isn't that lovely. And therefore the local church should always be a place that vibrates with divine life and not death. And every Christian should be a person who lives spiritually in what the Lord Jesus called the abundant life. The thief he says comes not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy I am come that she might and that she might have it more abundantly. Again he says the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water into everlasting life. Again he says if any man thirsts let him come unto me and drink of living water. Now what we're seeing today is just the we want to see the rivers flowing don't we. We want to see the fountain springing up because he is the spirit of life. And then you will notice he is a liberating spirit. Now what does that mean? For the Lord of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Now note this. The ten commandments was given first of all to the Jews. Then the Jews should have shared those commandments with the world but they didn't do it. Instead of becoming real priests and light they were deceived by the idols of the heathens. But my dear friends please remember this. The ten commandments was never given to God's new society. In fact when you see that you're in Christ you will see number one that you've died to the principle of sin. You've died to the law and praise God you've died to the beggarly elements of the world. Therefore the objective of the Christian is not for me to live is the law. For me to live is Christ. You see the whole work of the Holy Spirit is to reveal the glory and the loveliness of Christ so that you live for Christ and Christ lives in you. Now the Holy Spirit will show you that and he has delivered us from the law way of producing holiness. Then lastly I want you to note it is a personal discovery. Notice now the rarity of the personal pronouns here in Roman state. I think they're only used twice. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Here he uses the personal pronoun. Now why? In Romans 7 the apostle was trying to get holiness the law way and utterly failed. Now he has to learn to get holiness through the spirit the new way and through faith and now he's going to be victorious. I remember having a mission at sleep and I came out at the early morning prayer meetings each morning and I came to a and when I got to the bridge a man came along with a moped bike. Now you wouldn't know anything about that because in England we have little bikes and they can be used manually by peddling or they can be used mechanically and you can turn. Now here you would have a proper motorbike and you we still use the old. Well someone had bought this man a moped but he was afraid of the power and as I was climbing up the hill I could hear this old man puffing and panting and when I turned around the sweat was pouring over him and he was nearly collapsing and I looked I didn't say anything because that would have been rude but I wanted to say to him look here. The next day I came out of the prayer meeting and I could hear him puffing and panting like a man and when I looked at him I thought you're going to have a heart attack. You see with the weight of the engine the bike was twice its normal size and weight and he just got to the brow of the hill nearly toppled over and the third night I was there I got a surprise. Now I don't want to upset you young people but I hate a motorbike engine. That awful noise but when I heard this pop pop engine it was like candles and I couldn't hardly turn around and there he was he was going over the hill with me and there wasn't a bubble of perspiration. You see he had learned to utilize the power that was under him. Now there's a lot of Romans said and going to heaven the man you were. Puffing, panting, whining, wheezing and having spiritual heart attack. It's a wonderful thing when you discover the power within you. When you get your eyes opened and say the spirit of God is there he was there at the moment of my conversion and now he set me free and I've got power and now he wants you to turn on the power. Now how are we going to do that? Look at verses three and four and we shall see now it's an accomplishment. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh. Now remember what we said about the law it's hope. God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh for sin meaning a sin offering condemns sin in the flesh. Now the Lord will forgive you but he will never forgive your flesh. Now I can see you're not understanding that. The Lord will forgive you but he'll never forgive your flesh. He's condemned it by bearing it just and when you really know the activity of your flesh as you should you'll never forgive it. You won't say to it well I'm awfully sorry I'm really opposed to you. You'll do exactly what the Lord did but you're mortified and that's a different word and we should have to look. You see we shall never be under judgment for our flesh it's already been condemned and therefore that is our attitude to it that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit in us. What we couldn't do the law way we can do now in the spirit. In fact as we see Christ and live Christ we shall not only accomplish the ten commandments but we shall even fulfill the great law of the sermon on the mount which is far higher. We don't do it in the flesh manually we do it in the power of the Holy Spirit. All right let's go on look at verse 5 6 7 and 8. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh. Now let's look at the flesh. Those who are basically in Adam think as Adam does. In other words when you get with worldly people they're constantly talking about worldly things and they mind worldly things. They're taken up with their homes, they're taken up with their pleasure, they're taken up with the television, they're taken up with sport, they're taken up with everything that's material and they just mind the things of the flesh. Now if you're go down to verse 6. For to be carnally minded is death. What does that mean? To be fleshly minded simply means that that person is totally set for awful things. It means they live in this forgive the ungrammatical phrase this little teeny world of the material and they're playing about with these little teeny pleasures and all they're concerned about is a tin box on wheels that's been mechanised and a little matchbox that goes through the water at speed and they're taken up with little teeny things that fly in the air. They're just concerned with the beggarly things but the great world of God, the infinite variety of the almighty God they've missed. They say that Christians are narrow-minded, forgive me letting my hair down, that it's the fleshly mind that's narrow-minded it's death. Just alive to the things of the world but a Christian he lives in the world he touches it you see the fleshly mind. But then go on. The sixth because the carnal mind is enmity against God for it is not subject to the law of God. The way people think who are without Christ is the entire opposition to the way God reacts. In fact their minds are constantly at enmity with God that is why when we preach the gospel we are preaching divine light and some people get terribly angry because their minds are moving in opposition to God. So that they that are in the flesh cannot cannot please God. You see a man might have religious flesh, he might have intellectual flesh, he might have emotional flesh, he might even have musical flesh but he cannot please God. But now look what it says to those who are in the spirit. Go back to verse five and they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh but they that are after the spirit do things of the spirit. What do people talk about and think about who are in the spirit? They talk about the wonder of their salvation. They talk about the great fact that they have been taken from Adam and seated with Christ in heavenly places and they rejoice in it. They look at their own little bodies and they say isn't it wonderful this body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and I'm not mine own, I'm bought with a price and the whole purpose of my life is to glorify him in my body and in my spirit. And then they talk about the coming King and then they talk about the imminent coming of the bridegroom and they're all on their tiptoes waiting for his coming when he will take them from this earth bodily and the dead will be raised and they will meet him face to face in that sphere called the air forever to be with the Lord. And they talk about his coming kingdom when he will come with all his face and reign over this earth for a thousand years and then they will say that will be great that there's something better. When the world has had its millennium he will fold it up and all that which is related to the earth and I can almost imagine a critic saying ah but it's all pie in the sky when you die. Forgive the repetition. It's not pie in the sky it's steak on the plate while you wait. You see it's Christ in you the hope of glory. You see already he gives us a foretaste of glory. Let me explain. My mother used to make Christmas puddings the old-fashioned way and may I say this there's nothing like the old-fashioned Christmas. What went in that great galvanized bath I wouldn't like to tell you. And when mother had made all the puddings and there were about six they went into a copper that was lit by a wood fire and then she would say to all the boys there were five of us now you can have your lick. And we took our fingers and we went round like that and we tasted and you know we could hardly wait for Christmas. Now my dear friends if you don't mind a little bit of slang God's given us a lick of heaven already. The Holy Spirit coming within us giving us a foretaste of the glory land. You see we who are Christians our minds are on spiritual things eternal things things that are eternal. And then he says another interesting thing look at verse four for the carnal mind is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. You see when you become a Christian you do not commit intellectual suicide you don't become a slumberhead. The moment you become a Christian he shows you how to think that you think in a renewed way you have the very mind of Christ and therefore you have life and peace. Now isn't it strange I've heard a number of people say in my own country you mustn't give yourself too much to study and you must be very careful that you don't spend too long in prayer. Why? You may have a religious breakdown and there are scores of people who think like that. But look what the scripture says to be spiritually minded is life, peace. That peace with God that's the peace of God and that's the God of peace dwelling with you. Beloved when you're spiritual and truly spiritual the Lord will never allow you that only happens when you move into a realm that's not spiritual. So can you see it's life it's peace. I wish I could amplify that more. Now would you come with me and I must hurry to verses 12 and 13. Therefore brethren we are debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh for if ye live after the flesh ye shall die but if through the spirit to mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live. There were two rooms one was called the Sarc's room and that's the Greek word and the other was called the Numerum and that basically is the Greek word for the spirit. And we notice that when she let out the flesh there was an ugly smell in the house it was a savor of death. But when she locked him up and she allowed the spirit there was a beautiful aroma of life and peace. Now this is what Paul is saying therefore brethren we are debtors not to the flesh to live after the flesh. Why? The flesh basically belongs to the old man and the old man was the man you were when you were in Adam. The spirit belongs to the new man and now you're in Christ. And therefore when we allow the flesh to reveal itself it's a paradox to our position. It's like a man helplessly rich living on bread and cheese. You see it's a paradox to his position and therefore he says if ye live after the flesh he shall die. Oh you say that's dangerous what does that mean? Well let's see the bad side of the word it's exactly the same word only a slightly different connotation to the wages of sin is death. Oh you say that means then if I let the flesh raise its ugly head I could be eternally separated from God. Well my dear friends let's help. The word death in the Romans must be strictly interpreted within the confines of its content. And therefore when he uses the word die here a paraphrase would mean if you allow the flesh to operate in your life you will not look like a Christian. Now can I prove that to you? I want you to imagine a man and his wife and they're having an argument. Then the husband gets very very angry and he shouts some balls. Now when he loses his temper does he look like a Christian? Of course he doesn't he looks like one of the dead ones. Or here are two people and they're discussing some Christians and they're really tearing them to pieces and you can see them. Now when you see them tearing the Christians to pieces do they look like Christians? They look like the people of the world. Here is a fella and girl and they're engaged together but they've gone too far and they're caught in an act of lust. In that act of lust do they look like Christians? They look like the people of the world. So can you see when we let the flesh raise its ugly head we don't look like Christians we look like dead people. Beloved that's why some of our Sunday morning meetings are not operating correctly because there's death there. That's why some of our prayer meetings are barren. That's why some of our teaching meetings have no life in it. There's death. You see if we allow the flesh to dictate the terms in our life we shan't look like a Christian. We shall spiritually die. That does not mean to say we go to hell. It simply means that it will be very difficult to decipher whether you're a Christian or not. Now dear friends let's be very very fixed now in our minds and let's say look we'll have to deal with this flesh thing in our lives otherwise I'm going to be a backslidden Christian. All right let's go on. Verse 13 for if ye live after the flesh ye shall die. Thank God for that. If through the spirit to mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live. Now you will notice you can't do this by the law of your mind. It's not something you do with manual determination. This is not a stoical desire. You can only do this in the power of the spirit. Now what does the word mortify mean? It means to put something to death violently. Now I'm almost afraid to give this illustration for it's sadistic. Do you remember when Saul was told to put the Amalekites to death? He did it partially but not completely and then Samuel came to see him and he came to Samuel and he says I've done what the Lord's commanded. He thought he was consecrated and then all of a sudden there was a bleeding sheep and a lowing oxen. Saul could have strangled them. So Samuel that was a penetrating man said what do you mean by these bleeding sheep and these lowing oxen? Oh he says that we're going to use them for the purpose of sacrifice. May I say this? You can never use fleshly means for the purpose of sacrifice. Now would you forgive me if I let down my hair. The evangelical church is trying to use fleshly means to propagate spiritual matters. You can't do it. You can't do it. We've got to use spiritual means to effect spiritual purposes. So poor Saul lost his kingship because of that and would you believe it Agag came and he said surely the pains of death have passed from me and when Samuel saw him I'm going to use the word he mortified him. He cut him to pieces and remember if you don't deal with the flesh the flesh will deal with you. Now this word mortify means put it to death violently. Now a person raised this question he said Mr Brennan but how do you do that? I thought that was splendid. He said if I could take the flesh out of me I hate it so much I would stab it all over and I had to smile he was a typical old cockney just like a stab a sausage he said. Now I could see that young man hated the flesh but he says you can't take it out. How do you do it? Well my dear friends I'm going to say something that's not very theological. Do you know what I believe it means? You hate it, you have the spirit to mortify it and therefore when it raises its head you shout at it. No, no, no, you're not going to reign over me and you say to the blessed spirit yes take over. Now he says if you mortify the flesh in the spirit you'll live, you'll live. It's resurrection life. Now is that quarter, oh no that's five parts. Can I have two more minutes and then we'll move on and close. Verse 14 for as many as are led by the spirit of God they are the sons of God. Now what does that mean? Now I know there are some of my dear believers that tell me there are two kinds of Christians there are the children and there are the sons of God and the children of God are those in their infancy and those who are led by the spirit are those who have reached the point of sonship and some goes far to say that when the Lord comes he's only going to come for the sons and not the children. Now that is unscriptural. We are all the children of God and we can say as a father but we're all the sons of God too. Whether we have just been saved or we have been saved 30 years we're all sons but we don't all look like sons. You only look like a dignified son when you're led by the spirit. Turn to Galatians and you will see now the three stages in the spirit-filled life. I'll just read these far better than to quote it. Verse 24 and 25 and they that are Christ have crucified the flesh with the affections and love. That's the same as mortifying it that you do it in the spirit. Then he said if we live in the spirit let us walk in the spirit. Turn to verse 18 but if you be led of the spirit you're not under the law. So can you see there are three expressions living in the spirit walking in the spirit led by the spirit. Now living in the spirit I suggest is when you become aware that the Holy Spirit is in you. Walking in the spirit is an advancement and it simply means you begin to appropriate the Holy Spirit that's within you. In other words you get up in the morning and you tell the Lord, Lord I'm going to trust you to give me power to live this day victoriously. I have the Holy Spirit there's the potential in me to walk in the spirit and now I'm going to ask the Lord to give me the power to walk victoriously today. If you're a Sunday school teacher then you prepare your lesson and you realize that the Holy Spirit is within you and then before you go into the class you quietly say now Lord I'm going to trust you to speak through me through the spirit. That's walking it's appropriation. A child is born to walk but it doesn't walk immediately. There comes a moment when it's eight to nine months or a year and it takes its first steps. First of all it stares, then it takes its first step and it walks. Its steps are wonky, it falls over, it rubs its nose, it cries but it gets up again until it perfects its walk. Now my dear friends learn to discover that the Holy Spirit is within you. Then begin to utilize that spirit, appropriate it. That's what the Lord Jesus meant when he said drink, appropriate the Holy Spirit. Then the word to lead or lead means the control of the spirit and that corresponds to a spirit filled life. Then he says that you look like the sons of God. I went into a college at Cambridge to speak on the subject of faith. I shall never forget this and when I got in they gave me a bread and cheese lunch. I shall never forget that. That cheese was so strong it took the skin of my tongue and the roof of my mouth and I was unwell for about two days. But they were having a bread and cheese lunch in order to give food to those that were suffering with famine and then they gave me this subject of faith. There were 60 young men and halfway through the discourse I just stopped and said gentlemen you're ministering to me far more than I'm ministering to you. They smiled. They were radiant with the joy of the Lord. Radiant. So after that meeting I thought I'm going to find the secret of this. So I went to one chap that looked very happy in the Lord. He wasn't acting foolishly like rolling over the floor or swinging on the chandeliers. He was sitting there but he was happy. He was taking in the word of God. I said where do you come from? He said South Africa. I said what are you studying? He said engineering. I said how long have you been here? He said three years. Now I said do you mind if I ask a personal question? What's that? How long have you been saved? He said three weeks. Three weeks? I said where were you saved? He says here. He said that chap led me to the Lord. I said that fellow's the secret then. So I waited until he had finished speaking and I looked at him. I said where do you come from? He says Liverpool. I said what are you reading? He said engineering. I said how long have you been here? Three years. Now I said do you mind if I ask you a personal question? How long have you been saved? He said six weeks. Six weeks? And where were you saved? He said that chap led me to the Lord. I thought this is the fellow. So I waited for him and then I said where do you come from? He said Southampton. Oh I said whereabouts? And he told me. I said do you know Heflin Hall? He said yes. What are you studying? Engineering. I said you've been here three years. That's right. Then he said how long have you been saved? Do you know what he said? Two months. Do you know where it all started? Two young men went to their bedroom and they shut themselves in their room and wept because of their fleshly life. Wept. They diligently read the scriptures on their knees and they claimed the fullness of the Spirit and they asked the Lord to give them one soul within six months and there were six days. Radiant with the joy of the Lord. May God give us all a similar experience.
