Lee Strobel

Lee Patrick Strobel (1952–) is an American preacher, Christian apologist, and former investigative journalist whose ministry has focused on defending the Christian faith through writing and speaking. Born on January 25, 1952, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, he grew up in a nominally religious family. He earned a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri in 1974 and a Master of Studies in Law from Yale Law School in 1979. Initially an atheist, Strobel worked as an award-winning legal editor at The Chicago Tribune for 14 years, receiving Illinois’ top honors for investigative reporting and public service journalism from United Press International. His wife Leslie’s conversion to Christianity in 1979 prompted him to investigate the historical claims of Jesus, leading to his own conversion on November 8, 1981, after nearly two years of research. He is married to Leslie, with whom he has two children, Alison and Kyle. Strobel’s preaching career began after leaving journalism in 1987, when he became a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, serving until 2000. He later joined Saddleback Church in California as a teaching pastor from 2000 to 2007 and served as a teaching pastor at Woodlands Church in Texas from 2014 to 2020. A prolific author, he has written over 40 books, including The Case for Christ (1998), which chronicles his journey from atheism to faith and has sold millions of copies, earning multiple ECPA Christian Book Awards. He founded the Lee Strobel Center for Evangelism and Applied Apologetics at Colorado Christian University, where he serves as Founding Director, and hosted the television program Faith Under Fire on PAX TV. His ministry emphasizes evidence-based apologetics, leaving a legacy as a preacher who bridges skepticism and faith through intellectual rigor and personal testimony.
