George Verwer

George Verwer (1938 - 2023). American evangelist and founder of Operation Mobilisation (OM), born in Ramsey, New Jersey, to Dutch immigrant parents. At 14, Dorothea Clapp gave him a Gospel of John and prayed for his conversion, which occurred at 16 during a 1955 Billy Graham rally in New York. As student council president, he distributed 1,000 Gospels, leading 200 classmates to faith. In 1957, while at Maryville College, he and two friends sold possessions to fund a Mexico mission trip, distributing 20,000 Spanish tracts. At Moody Bible Institute, he met Drena Knecht, marrying her in 1960; they had three children. In 1961, after smuggling Bibles into the USSR and being deported, he founded OM in Spain, growing it to 6,100 workers across 110 nations by 2003, with ships like Logos distributing 70 million Scriptures. Verwer authored books like Out of the Comfort Zone, spoke globally, and pioneered short-term missions. He led OM until 2003, then focused on special projects in England. His world-map jacket and inflatable globe symbolized his passion for unreached peoples.

Sermon Transcription
The day of resurrection, the day of worship. Hallelujah. I am so happy that we can worship together with our risen Lord. This morning we want to turn our event into a worship service. It is not an ordinary congress in the morning, but worship. Who wants to worship? Who wants? Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. I am so thankful for our brothers and sisters, our Scottish team. We have only one small handicap. That is the songs that they sing. We can not sing along. So I would like to tell you in all humility, and I would like to ask the team from Hamburg to get ready in 10 minutes to come forward and to prepare some German songs for us. Hallelujah. So that we can worship together. I was just saying to Brother Derek, I am so thankful to the Lord for your ministry, and it is doing so, so good to us. Only one small handicap, that is people can not sing with, but we are singing up here. So we want to change a little bit. We will ask the Hamburg team to come forward, probably half an hour, and they shall then lead the congregation into German songs, and after that you continue. Praise the Lord, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. And we want to give this to the Lord individually and say, Father, I have brought this for you. I do not want to let this go down in this great crowd. I personally bring it to you. Hallelujah, that is what we want to do now together. Everyone shall simply raise his voice, and he shall, she or he shall raise his voice and give it to the Lord. Do not be afraid, if you get louder, if someone could hear you, do not worry. Let us simply offer our praise to the Lord. All together, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Father, we praise you, hallelujah. We thank you that we may come to you this morning as ambassadors. You are worthy, hallelujah. Oh, you are worthy to receive honor and praise and worship. You are the Lord of Glory, and you are the Majesty of Heaven. You are the King over all kings, hallelujah, hallelujah. Oh, you are the Lord of Lords, hallelujah. You live in a light that no one can come to, that no man has seen, but he can see. The Lord of Lords, King over all kings. You alone have immortality, hallelujah. You live from eternity to eternity, you live from eternity to eternity. We praise you, dear Father in Heaven, hallelujah, hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. In Jesus' name, in Jesus' name, in Jesus' name, in Jesus' name, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Oh, God of Spirits, I ask you, Lord, that you may come. Oh, thank you that you are here, Lord. You live in me, you live in the life of my siblings, Lord. Thank you that you have taken residence in us, that you live in us, hallelujah. That you speak with us, that you go with us, that you comfort us, that you help us. Oh, thank you that you lead us, thank you that we may be under your control, that we may be led and guided by you, hallelujah. Thank you, God of Spirits, that you want to help us, so that we may be able to visit the Father in spirit and in truth today. Thank you that we may be able to do this today from the heart, hallelujah. Come and help us, hallelujah, help us. Help us in the service of God, for the honor of the Father, hallelujah, hallelujah. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, amen. In Offenbarung Kapitel 5. Da sehen wir unseren Herrn Jesus. Wir sehen. Halleluja. Ja. Br. Bill, would you come? We all want to stand up and we want to listen to the Word of God. Also the people who don't understand German, I like to say, aus Respekt, out of respect for God's Word, we want to get up and we want to see where Jesus is. It's very good for us to see on Sunday morning, on the Day of Resurrection, to see where Jesus is. We have thanked just now, we honor you, our King Jesus. So we want to read the Word of God and see where Jesus is. So I would ask Br. Bill to read out of Revelation, Chapter 5, and after that I would read in German. I wanted to read first, but since Br. Bill came to the front, so I would request him to get up. Halleluja. All right. Chapter 5. And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven seals thereof. And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne, and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb, as it had been slain, having seven horns, seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. When he had taken the book, the four beasts and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of the Saints. And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof, for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. And hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, and the beasts, and the elders, and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, blessings, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that saith it upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him, that liveth forever and ever. And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in them, heard I saying, blessings, and honor, and glory, and power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, and glory, and blessing. And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and wisdom, And I beheld, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, It is beautiful, Sunday morning, to see Jesus in the midst of the twenty-four elders. It is beautiful, Jesus as the Lamb of God, Sunday morning, to see Him in the midst of the throne and four figures. He stands in the center. He stands in the center. It says to us, He shall be the center of our life. No one else may take this place. He shall be the center of our life. What is the reaction here? Twenty-four elders fell down. They prayed to the Lord. We want to kneel down to the Lord. That's what we want to do. I want to hear that. And then we all want to kneel down together. And we want to kneel down like the four elders. Our proud knees should also bow before God. Amen. Our proud knees should also bow before God. Hallelujah. I feel the Lord had me share something with you that you can do at home. I feel the Lord had me share something with you that you can do at home. This is prophecy concerning this day and this time. This is prophecy concerning this day and this time. This is Revelation 15. This is Revelation 15. They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God. The song of Moses starts in the fourth, Moses 4, 33 and 34. We're not going to read them. We're not going to read them. And then it starts up again in Psalm 90. And then it starts up again in Psalm 90. And it goes, many people think that it is 1990, 1991, 1992. And we find the prophecy concerning end time in this song. They sang it so the prophecy would start. And we see it goes to 100. Now, you read that at home and let the Lord speak to you about end time prophecy. Now, you read that at home and let the Lord speak to you about end time prophecy. And if it was important for them to sing it at the throne of God, And if it was important for them to sing it at the throne of God, then it's important for us to know because it's this day and time. And then it's important for us to know because it's this day and time. Now we want to kneel down. We sing the song again. We sing the song again. We love and glorify you. We love and glorify you. Christ our King. We love and glorify you. Christ our King. We love and glorify you. Christ our King. Christ our King. We love and glorify you. Christ our King. We love and glorify you. Christ our King. Now we want to worship the Lord with our own words. God wants to be, first of all, you to be a worshipper. First of all, God wants you to be a worshipper. First of all, God wants you to be a worshipper. The service comes after that. I want to lead you in worship this morning. And while I lead you in worship, you can worship the Lord with your own words. You may worship the Lord with your own words. Worship is not prayer. Worship is not asking. Worship is not petition, making petition. Worship is just accepting the Lordship and the sovereignty and knowing who God is. Worship is not prayer. da. This morning, three of our brothers will be serving us. Brother George Weber will be the first person and after that we will be here, the important information which we should be hearing. And after that, Brother David Hattewee will be ministering and also Brother Satination. Amen. Halleluja. Halleluja. Maybe I would translate, let this one translated so that others also can hear. Bruder Klaus, bitte komm. Halleluja. Now, I want to read a verse this morning and like to encourage your heart. That is out of Joshua chapter 21 verse 45. I would like to read that one and then go further. Same verse is repeated in Joshua chapter 23 verse 14. So, wir, wie Sie hier, God is a God of faithfulness. God has been faithful in all these centuries to his word. And I want to tell you, if God has given you a personal prophecy, please believe me, that will go in the fulfillment if God has spoken. Joshua said, that nothing, nothing of all what God has spoken gone unfulfilled. So, God is faithful and believe the promises which God has given you. God can speak to you through his word. God can speak to you through an inspiration of the Holy Spirit to you personally. To your own spirit he can speak to you. Gott can speak to you through a prophecy or through a word of knowledge through someone else. And God can speak to you through visions or through dreams. God can speak to you through preaching and ministry of the word of God through other men and women of God. In all humility I tell you, there is no limitation that how God should be speaking to you. Maybe God would find a way to speak to you which we don't know. In all humility I tell you, there is no limitation that how God should be speaking to you. Maybe God would find a way to speak to you which we don't know. But one thing is for sure, if God has spoken to you and you have the inner conviction and God will also fulfill what he has promised. But I know that if God has spoken to you and you have the inner conviction, then it will come. God will fulfill it. Now the Bible tells us, our knowledge is the Stückwerk and it is our prophecy and prophecy and our knowledge is all our Stückwerk. My English is a little bit, it suffers a little bit. But it is not perfect. That's why we need to get all this speaking, so called speaking of the Lord must be confirmed to three, two or three witnesses. It is not just enough that you believe God has spoken to you, it is very necessary independent persons are coming and they are confirming what you feel in your heart. But of course there are exceptions. There are fathers and mothers in Christ and God speak to them maybe in different way. So I want to reaffirm, please hold on to the promises which the Lord has given you. I have much joy this morning to tell you something. God promised me something and it is going to be fulfilled. Do you know, the goal of these congresses are basically three. God put in my heart to get to the brothers and sisters from all kinds of churches and denominations together, so that we are learning to worship God first of all. I believe it is possible the brethren and the Pentecostals, the Charismatics, the Evangelicals and the Presbyterians and the Midori's and all these people could meet in one place and they can worship the Lord in the spirit and in the truth. I believe it is possible the brethren and the Pentecostals, the Charismatics, the Midori's and the Presbyterians and the Evangelicals and all these people could meet in one place and they can worship the Lord in the spirit and in the truth. The second goal of this congress, God told me that we must try to get all these brothers and sisters from different denominations. We must learn to work together in love and in unity. God told me that we must try to get all these brothers and sisters from different denominations. We must learn to work together in love and in unity. Years long many people said it is never possible. But I tell you it is possible. In the last congress in India we were able to mobilize 400 churches from all kinds of people and all kinds of denominations. We were able to work together in that congress. Years long many people said it is possible. But I tell you it is possible. In the last congress in India we were able to mobilize 400 churches from all kinds of people and all kinds of denominations. We were able to work together in that congress. And in the next congress in India there are going to be 600 churches working together. Do you know one church always rejected every other group in India. I wrote a personal letter to them. Do you know what has happened? The main leaders of this congregation even though he was sick he asked his people to carry him to our congress ground and he was sitting inside his car and listening to the message which I was speaking. Do you know what has happened? The main leaders of this congregation even though he was sick he asked his people to carry him to our congress ground and he was sitting inside his car and listening to the message which I was speaking. That means it is possible. It is possible to work together. It is possible. And the third and the last thing what we want to do achieve through this congress. We want to get all the brothers and sisters together and we want to evangelize the non-believers, bring the people to Christ. And I believe from the bottom of my heart it is possible. Do you know there is a man of God called Oswald J. Smith whom our brother George Weber yesterday mentioned and he is the man who said all the believers of the world could join together for one thing, they could evangelize the world. Do you know there is a man of God called Oswald J. Smith whom our brother George Weber yesterday mentioned and he is the man who said all the believers of the world could join together for one thing, they could evangelize the world. And I believe there is much potential in the church of Christ. It is not realized. Now I tell you what the Lord promised me. And he said some of my servants wanted to serve me. They asked me trucks and cars. I gave them. And I gave them ships. And I gave them ships. And God told me I'm going to give you an airplane. And God told me I'm going to give you an airplane. And God is going to give me an aircraft so that I could take anyone who says he is afraid to go out in the other countries. I will take you in the aircraft, the Lord is giving me, to take you from Germany out in the other nations. And it will be happening, hallelujah. The coming of the Lord is very near, my brothers and sisters. That which we are doing, we must do it quick. That's why God wants to give me an aircraft. And so that we are quickly in different countries. Not 5 people, 5 man team is going, not 10 man team is going, not 50, I like to go with the 500 persons. I'm telling you, God has given us a pilot. The brother who is that here, he is the captain of Lufthansa. And no problem of having the captain, he is not here this morning, he went home yesterday. And I tell you, I am asking Lord, I don't want to have an old aircraft, and I want to have a modern one. And if it is possible, a Jumbo. Do you believe that the Lord can give me a Jumbo? And I tell you, the name of this aircraft will be, look at Jesus. And the name of the aircraft will be, look at Jesus. When we are flying from Germany to Bulgaria, for example, or to Russia. There will be many hours up in the air. Do you know what we are going to be doing? We will be having nonstop worship up in the air. And second thing God put in my heart, in whichever nation we are coming in, we should be bringing the most modernist instrument in the medicine department. And that we want to give that country as a gift. And God will give us the grace so that we will be able to take the modernist instrument with and we give them as a gift for these nations. And we will then ask the president or the top man in the country to receive that gift from our hands. And we will then ask the president or the top man in the country to receive that gift from our hands. Imagine, this look at Jesus aircraft is coming down. And I tell you, when the forces of darkness hear that look at Jesus is coming, and the new age will be then born in that country, if it was not born yet. Now I tell you, brother Nelson, probably something is wrong with your head, but something is not right with you. But I tell you, in my head everything is normal. But I tell you, in my head everything is normal. God told me, open your mouth wide, I will fill it. And brothers and sisters, it is time for evangelism. All the people who say, I cannot, I cannot, I'm telling you, I'm going to carry you out and I will show you that you can. Hallelujah. God told me, God is going to use three group of people to let us have this aircraft. Two persons will be giving each one quarter of the money which we need for this plane. A third part will be coming from small gifts. And after we are getting the aircraft, once in a month we want to send this aircraft from Germany to Israel with goods for Israel. Hallelujah. So we will be having a warehouse here in Germany to collect all the goods to send to Israel. So when our aircrafts are coming to Israel, they must be looking, oh, look at Jesus. All the Jews also must be speaking the word Jesus. Only the Jews. Do you know, over two thousand years, Jews, they don't want to mention the name Jesus in their mouth. Brothers and sisters, so be encouraged and God is going to fulfill his promises. So God has promised something to you, keep on to that and God is going to fulfill. And if the Lord is telling you, brother Nelson, I want to be in that team. And believe me, we will be men of God from all six continents going with us to minister in this evangelistic effort. Brothers and sisters, keep on to the promises that God has given you. And believe me, men and women of God from all six continents will be in this team. If you have the impression, I want to be in this team, pray for it and the Lord will show it to you. Amen. Hallelujah. Let's give the Lord an applause. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Brother Dieter had a vision and he takes two minutes to share it with us. Then comes brother Dieter and brother George Weber. During the time of worship, when brother Nelson said and read, when we were all gathered before the throne of God, and I learned never to close my eyes, but to look with open eyes. And there the Lord showed me a great vision here in this tent. During the time while we worship the Lord, God has given me a big vision. I like to mention that. I saw the Lord Jesus on a white horse. And this horse had a golden cover. He had a crown. He had a scepter also in his hand. That has expressed the majesty of Jesus. The total lordship. And I heard the voice of the Father. The Father said to me, like you are reading in Revelation chapter seventeen and nineteen, like Jesus is coming on a white horse, and behind him was the heavenly army, like on earth now, through my servants, through my angels, I will gather my people. Then I saw how the angels went into different houses where the believers were. They were sleeping, and they were eating, and they were working. I heard a big trumpet sound, and these angels went into different places and said, Be ready. And they said, please follow Jesus on the horse. Then I saw innumerable persons, people were dressed white. They were all born again Christians. They are hearing now the voice of the Lord. God will call them in this eleventh hour, and they will follow Jesus. And I saw Jesus going through the earth to bring this good news to the people. And he will do that through his people. Hallelujah. Amen. Hallelujah. He will do that. Amen. Blessings.

Verwer authored books like Out of the Comfort Zone, spoke globally, and pioneered short-term missions. He led OM until 2003, then focused on special projects in England. His world-map jacket and inflatable globe symbolized his passion for unreached peoples.
