Richard Owen Roberts

Richard Owen Roberts (1931 - ). American pastor, author, and revival scholar born in Schenectady, New York. Converted in his youth, he studied at Gordon College, Whitworth College (B.A., 1955), and Fuller Theological Seminary. Ordained in the Congregational Church, he pastored in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California, notably Evangelical Community Church in Fresno (1965-1975). In 1975, he moved to Wheaton, Illinois, to direct the Billy Graham Center Library, contributing his 9,000-volume revival collection as its core. Founding International Awakening Ministries in 1985, he served as president, preaching globally on spiritual awakening. Roberts authored books like Revival (1982) and Repentance: The First Word of the Gospel, emphasizing corporate repentance and God-centered preaching. Married to Margaret Jameson since 1962, they raised a family while he ministered as an itinerant evangelist. His sermons, like “Preaching That Hinders Revival,” critique shallow faith, urging holiness. Roberts’ words, “Revival is God’s finger pointed at me,” reflect his call for personal renewal. His extensive bibliography, including Whitefield in Print, and mentorship of figures like John Snyder shaped evangelical thought on revival history.

Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher begins by highlighting the violence and immorality that is prevalent in society, both on the streets and on television. He then turns to the book of Matthew, specifically chapter 3, where John the Baptist is introduced as the one who prepares the way for the Lord. The preacher emphasizes the importance of repentance and the coming judgment for those who do not turn away from sin. He also discusses the negative influence of false converts in the church and the need for true believers to stand firm in their faith. The sermon concludes with a plea for God's mercy and a call to seek His forgiveness through fasting, weeping, and turning away from evil.

With passing, weeping, weeping, knocking, retort is rich and asinine, who knows whether he will not turn and relent and leave a blessing behind him, even a great offering and a life-saving medicine. His worst nation became a great nation. They think because they've got it and it's ever-occurring, you guys are all about doing such great things. They want everybody to think of it. When I come around, don't expect to see me dressed in a robe. And when I drink the spirit, and the people sanctify, they gather me up. There are more than are the ones today. But when a cause is, if you know good and well, if you wish, his name has become a part of the wicked in our days. Many times, every time we add another fault, another cause, why should those billions and billions agree readily to be blown? Rejoice in the frontier feast of the, and yield to the full. So rejoice, so I will make up for you. Did you ever get down? Is there anybody afraid? Pardon me. We're singing greedily with hope. Have you had experiences such as I have? Oh, as well. Even imitations were you. Well, I'll just say. So then I thought, well, I'll just. And it was not engaged in the most single thing I've said. And yet, you're right. He's no idea. We have multitudes. I am a glutton too. Well, if it wasn't for those rotten politicians, things wouldn't be this way. If we could just. It is the only thing that I'm going to take from the church. Is it that there is faith made to the planet? Saying, for the kingdom of heaven is. Well, this is the one referred to. Make his path. Now, John himself had a government. Then Jerusalem was growing up. And they were being baptized. But when he saw many of them. Three and four. And do not suppose that you can say. Every tree, therefore, that does not. Words to talk about. There is something very urgent. As you read here, you get the impression. And this gang of Pharisees. That we read in a very plain statement. Well, that leads me to. John. Those. Who were ready. And he discerned those who were not ready. Now, we're not pretending that the baptism. We know that the baptism. Hasn't occurred. Fifty years ago. To be able to handle. His little brothers. We are living tonight. We are living at a time. We are living at a time. Of physical age. And whenever you induce. I repeat. Do you realize. He believes in the virgin birth. He believes that Christ. He believes. That Jesus taught. And preached. He believes that Christ. Was persecuted. He believes that. He believes. But for one reason. I don't see that in people. It would appear to me. That the devil has work. When the Bible. Calls. And the word. Belief. Is not. Past. True belief. It's. Belief. That the Spirit. Controls. And to say. That you believe. And yet. To actually. And to. Refuse. To bend. And bow. Declare. The fact. If they knew. God. They would know. It's so beautiful. Symbolized in the book. I come up out. Whenever you do. It indicates. A great deal. Now in this passage. Where I once said. What I am. Is that it is not. In a cave. In society. You pat me. As a missionary. And some of you are. In the new vocab. We need to learn. I would urge. Those of you. Here I will give it. Between what our. Former being. Achieved. I didn't use the word evil. Ego. Depends. Over again. And. Ego. Depends. Many evangelists. A series. That ego. Sent. You're a young woman. You had an abortion. What do you feel. May turn in this way. Your life seems. Just full of me. You say to yourself. Often this. He'll be your friend. What. Will change. The picture of this. You have the opportunity. Of all. Is. Can. One. Feed. Their. And be. Retentive. Can I come. Can I come. And have it. Genuinely. You may have induced. Many. To respond. They're in the grip. Of that. We. Are. And. You thought. Yourself. I liken. The contemporary. Of her. Will say there are. Too much. They're all. In the pool. Of hundred. And sixty of them. Are on the bottom. And forty of them. And the pastor. Looks out. Oh. And he raises. Them to the surface. And he holds. Them there. But he can't hold. A hundred and sixty. Why the person. There is a holy God. He made you for him. Will change. God will change. God is so deep. Come because it is your. How much motivation. Is there.
