Bob Jennings

Bob Jennings (January 2, 1949 – November 6, 2012) was an American preacher and pastor whose ministry focused on biblical fidelity, prayer, and preparing believers for eternity, leaving a profound impact within evangelical circles. Born in Kirksville, Missouri, to a family that shaped his early faith, he surrendered to Christ as a young man and began preaching in 1978 alongside Charles Leiter in Kirksville. In 1983, he became an elder at Highway M Chapel in Sedalia, Missouri, where he co-pastored for nearly three decades, emphasizing sound doctrine and a vibrant church community. Married to Terri since around 1970, he raised five children—Jared, Zachary, Evan, and two daughters—instilling in them the same spiritual devotion. Jennings’ preaching career gained wider reach through conferences, such as those with HeartCry Missionary Society alongside Paul Washer, and university outreaches in the U.S. and Eastern Europe, where his sermons on sin, grace, and Christ’s return resonated deeply. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010, he chronicled his journey in an online journal (bobjenningsjournal.wordpress.com), offering meditations like “The most important thing in life is to be ready for death,” preached at a 2008 funeral. His final sermon, “Behold the Lamb of God” (2012), and a farewell letter to Sedalia reflect his unwavering hope in Christ. He died at 63, his sons having built his casket, buried in a rural Missouri cemetery after a life of humble, resolute ministry.

Sermon Transcription
Concerning sin, what about their sin? A little more definition is given here. It says concerning sin, verse 9, what? Adultery, murder, some atrocious sin like that? No. Concerning sin, because they do not believe on me. That is the radical, that is the chief sin, that is the sin of all sins, is not to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. To hold out on Him, to put confidence in yourself instead of confidence in Him. The altogether lovely one, the altogether worthy object of our trust. No reason we should not trust Him. No reason we should not come to Him. Every reason that we should give our hearts love and loyalty without strings attached to the Lord of glory. Sin, because they do not believe on me. Not only His person, but the work that He did on the cross. When He died for sinners, He was a dying of cancer. And this fellow comes from miles away, paying an expensive price for the remedy. And it surely will work. It worked on thousands that we know. And you take it and you disregard it. I am not going to take it. I do not need that. What an insult, you see. What an insult to the Lord Jesus Christ. You die and shed His blood and step on it in the dust. The blood was flowing down. This is the high-handed rebellion of the sinner against the Lord. To not believe on Him. What a thing. We tend to think on belief as a neutral matter. It is not. And the Spirit of God comes and especially puts His finger on that one thing. You have not believed on the Lord of glory who died for sinners.
