Ed Ballew

Ed Ballew (April 14, 1924 – November 18, 2010) was an American preacher and evangelist renowned for his fiery gospel preaching and dedication to soul-winning across a 64-year ministry. Born in Sugar Creek, Tennessee, to Andrew and Viney Ballew, he grew up in a rural Baptist family alongside his brother Windell, who predeceased him. Called to preach in 1946 while serving in the U.S. Army, he began his ministry after his discharge, pastoring churches in Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida, and later hosting radio broadcasts that extended his reach. Ballew’s preaching career gained prominence as he transitioned to full-time evangelism, delivering sermons marked by urgency, scriptural fidelity, and a call to repentance, often at revival meetings and through his worldwide travels. In 1978, he and his wife Pauline founded the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, initially a tape ministry from their home that grew into a global outreach, providing cassettes, Bible studies, and resources to inmates. Honored with a Doctor of Divinity from Faith Baptist Bible College & Messianic School of Theology, he remained a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank, Tennessee, and an honorary member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tennessee. Married to Pauline Patterson until her death in 2008, they had two daughters, Joyce Anselment and Tina Kerr. Ballew died at age 86 in Cleveland, Tennessee, leaving a legacy of countless lives touched by his unwavering stand for the gospel.
