Brother Yun

Brother Yun (1958–present). Born Liu Zhenying on January 1, 1958, in Nanyang, Henan, China, Brother Yun is a Chinese house church leader, evangelist, and author, renowned for his role in the Back to Jerusalem movement. Raised in poverty, he converted to Christianity at 16 in 1974 after his mother’s renewed faith led to his father’s miraculous healing from lung cancer, sparking a family revival. Lacking a Bible, Yun fasted and prayed for one, receiving it after a divine vision guided evangelists to deliver it. He memorized Scripture, including the Gospel of Matthew, and began preaching at 16, reciting entire chapters to villagers, leading to widespread conversions despite China’s clampdown on Christianity in the 1980s and 1990s. As a house church leader, he faced severe persecution, arrested multiple times, tortured, and imprisoned for over seven years, including a 74-day fast he claims sustained him miraculously. In 1997, he escaped Zhengzhou Maximum Security Prison, attributing it to divine intervention, and fled to Germany, where he gained asylum. Yun authored The Heavenly Man (2002) with Paul Hattaway, detailing his persecution and miracles, and Living Water (2008), sharing his teachings; the former won the UK Christian Book of the Year in 2003. Married to Deling, with two children, he now ministers globally, advocating missions to unevangelized nations. He said, “We shouldn’t pray for a lighter load to carry, but a stronger back to endure!”
