What does that mean? It means this you cost so much I can't pay for you. I Cost so much you can't pay for me You can't rescue me from the judgment that is coming to me because of the Colossians 214 Record of debt that is against me that is hostile to me. You might love me, but you can't save me You might love me to walk me through but you can't do what only God can do. You can't rescue me Do you realize this your life is costly? Costly The way Jesus phrased this in Mark 8 is this What shall a man gives in exchange for his soul? How much are you worth? And if you think you don't have worth if you don't think you have your value You don't understand the Lord has spoken over you You are costly How many of you believe that today you have got value you've got caught would you be a Pentecostal for a moment and turn to each other and say I've got value you've got value You've got value Out to the Baptist in with the Pentecostals. I'm telling you right this moment Why is that because we desperately need to do this together and that's why the question of Revelation 5 2 is so important Is anyone worthy to go to the father and deal with the problem of the debt the debt? That it's so huge. Will anybody do this and in chapter 5 verse 3 It's one of my most favorite verses because in chapter 5 of Revelation verse 3, there's a search for somebody worthy I don't know how long it took But when you're in heaven and you're on eternal time and not here time Searches can take fast or short. I haven't figured it out. I've never been there But there's a search for someone who is worthy Outside of time Down to the quarter of the ages is Anybody ever been now or will be worthy to do this work? Is there anybody? Is there a saint? Is there somebody vastly wealthy? Is there somebody who's got? Nobility and honor among us that can go to the father and do the work Is there anyone who can do this and you're going to have to forgive me because in our culture right now I'll tell you what's being said all religions lead to God So the answer is of course all religions Mohammed can do this Confucian everybody can do this because all of us are going to heaven isn't that wonderful? The only problem is it's just not true. Why do I say it's not true because the search has been done and guess what? The search has found You'll see it in your scriptures 5 3 there is no one able to do this There is none of us Not one of us is worthy from the beginning of time to the end of time not one to come not is not was Nobody is worthy. And when John has this hit his heart it pierces him He suddenly realizes that nobody pays the debt. We're all destined for judgment All of us are going to have to pay the debt the judgment day to come all of us It's all moving that direction if there is no one worthy and John begins to cry John begins to weep Now I don't want to miss this moment because I don't want you to miss this moment. Do you realize what's being asked of? Who can do this work and able to open the scroll and pay the debt against us? Do you know how much you cost? Do you know how much I cost? Can anybody here imagine what we cost here in this room Together combined. Let me put it in a simple language. I can take you guys to lunch. I can take you guys to lunch I cannot take you guys to lunch. I Can't afford you Is there anybody that can afford our soul? That can actually pay for all of us in this room. Have you ever thought about that? Wait, wait, let me wait. Wait, let me just go on How about is there anybody that can afford everybody in Atlanta Everybody in the United States Can anybody afford that cost? Can anybody afford the cost of of North America South America of? The Far East of Europe if you added all the people on the earth today Is there anyone able to pay the cost of all of us? Is there anybody worthy? To go and pay the cost pay the cost is anybody able to pay the cost No, wait a second. Wait a second How about all people for all time? Is there anybody worthy? To pay the cost of all people for all time You see what the question is doing It's asking the most important question of all It's about you it's about me and it's about us. Is there anyone worthy to do this? Somebody has to do it from us Somebody has to do it from us man has sinned man must pay Somebody is there somebody and John? Here's the word nobody. There is no one able to do this There is no one and John begins to weep and John begins to weep and as he's weeping one of the elders not an angel One of us comes over to John and says John wait behold. There's a lion. There is one of us There's a lion from the tribe of Judah a lion from the root of David Oh, yes, he can do this and suddenly boom he takes the stage This is the one who is worthy. This is the one This is the one who from all time the only one among us who can actually take the stage. Can you imagine it? This is why it is so inconceivable Sometimes to perceive the weight and the understanding of what took place that night of Bethlehem When John turns around he doesn't see lion John sees lamb He sees a lamb standing as if slain. He sees a lamb with power. He sees a lamb with the Holy Spirit He sees a lamb the one who can actually pay the debt and so and so in verse 7 of Revelation 5 the reenactment happens the lamb actually goes to the father and he takes from the hand of the father the scroll and Just the action of him taking the scroll into his hand all of heaven bursts and prays Everybody falls down and worship. We've got somebody who is worthy to do what we can't do ourselves one of us There is one of us who can do what we cannot do and the praise the sound of worthy Straight into the soul the sound deep in the heart begins to gush out my friends Once you get into glory if the Lord if you have if you have walking which once you get there that sound We will never stop marveling at this one Throughout endless ages the moment we see his face the golden crowns will be cast We will fall on our face and we will realize look at what he's done. Look at who he is this Savior this champion this lamb And that's why it is inconceivable what our forebears wanted us to know and never forget They wrote it down in what's called a creed They tried to explain that in the Godhead father son and Holy Spirit one God eternal one God forever There was a decision made from the foundations of the world that when this event would happen that we would fall from glory That the son would be sent the glory the wonder of the father's beloved son and the only way they could say it is this God from God light from light Very God from very God true God from true God begotten not made of one being with the father through him all Things were made for us and for our salvation He came down from heaven for us for our salvation He came down from heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and was made man and for our sake he was crucified This is the glories of this gospel. This is the wonder of what happened This is why his name Jesus means to take away the people's sins That's what he's come to do. He's come to right the wrong. He's come to pay the debts The angel said it this way today in the city of David is born for us save He did not expect us to understand. He did say I and the father are one It cost him his life He did say before Abraham was born. I am I Am who I am But he also considered equality with God Philippians 2 6 and 7 He considered equality with God something not to be grasped but made himself of no reputation Taking the form of a bondservant and being made in the likeness of men He became one of us he the last Adam made in the image of God Just like the first Adam the last Adam But he's not like the last Adam that first Adam had a beginning the last Adam has no beginning He's the eternal one, but he's one of us and he is sinless And he begins to take the stage at the age of 30 the Spirit of God comes down upon him The father announces. This is my son my beloved son in whom I am Well, please and the first time John the Baptist sees him John the Baptist whose own personage He knew that day was coming and he said as I've said before He said I am NOT worthy to untie the thong of his sandal because he knew Jesus He honored him. He knew him But when he saw him he said There he is behold There he is the Lamb of God the person the Lamb of God the person Do you know how much worth he is? He is he's not going to just come to rescue the top 10% He's not going to just come and rescue one part of us or two parts He's actually actually worthy of every person ever born. He is able to take away the sin of the world. He is Able to take away the sin of the world and So what you have? What you have is a 1 2 3. It's very simple. It's a 1 2 3 It's the most extraordinary event of all time It's the event of all time. It's the event that we will never understand. We will never never never perceive it will be a place of worship all our days and That event happened in the Garden of Eden It was that event where he said I would rather this cup pass Not my will your will be done or to put it in our Revelation 5 language I'd rather the scroll pass Not my will but your will be done The Lamb presents himself Genesis 4 point number one a lamb Point number two in the Garden of Gethsemane Isaiah 53 6 happens The Lord laid upon him the iniquity of us all There's no way to perceive that There's no way to perceive How someone who is perfect and holy is baptized into utter profanity But the way the scriptures will say it so we get it in our head is he who knew no sin Became sin And the pure spotless Lamb Goes to Calvary and dies our death and Pays our debt Not with silver and gold But the precious blood of Christ And then when it was done And Colossians 2 14 has its fulfillment He canceled out the certificate of debt With its legal demands That was hostile to us He has taken it out of the way How did he take it out of the way? How did he take your debt and my debt out of the way? He nailed it to the cross and He triumphed he disarmed the rulers and authorities chapter 2 verse 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities. He made a public display He put them to open shame they who try to put us to open shame Jesus on the cross put them to open shame and he triumphed over them through the cross. That's what he did All we have to do that means it's so simple 1 2 3. All we have to do is identify it I end my rebellion. I end my defiance. I'm not gonna walk with the culture. I'm not gonna do what I know is wrong I'm not gonna compromise anymore. I'm gonna actually confess my sin point number one. We've got a lamb point number two We confess we lay our hand and the father takes our sin off of us and on to the lamb And this is where the cross becomes real to you. That's why we baptize we identify into the death of Jesus and we see the the Resurrection of the Lord as we come out of the waters and the Spirit of God is breathed into us and you and I are clean You and I have got power to live you and I don't have to live in the shame and the despair and the Confusions that this world is trying to spin us in My friends you and I need this confidence because soon enough Christians are going to be persecuted you realize that The moment you start saying that what is right today is actually wrong Watch out what happens you'll be marginalized isolated. This is why many of our preachers have decided not to preach the whole scriptures They would rather entertain the generation coming up then actually tell the truth to the generation that we might be saved Then we might have the power to be born again in Christ. I Said it last hour. I'll say it this hour if you go to an ER and say I had a great experience But you didn't get any treatment and you walked away as sick as you don't go back I don't know why people keep going back to what isn't healing them I don't know why people keep going back and listening to Motivational speakers and having a wonderful time and getting a high and finding on Monday morning They're worse off than when they were when they went Motivational preaching will do nothing for you, but give you a little high This generation coming up is getting addicted to all kinds of things. They need power real power We're getting hooked on things. We're listening to a culture We're compromising because we think that we're safe and secure in this culture and we're not It is time to put our focus our attention our life on Jesus and this is why I do what I do This is why I do what I do I come around people who've been run over by the 18 wheel and I said listen to me The church might look like it's actually a good play. It's it's like an entertainment something You might feel good when you go But it's not the way the church is designed The church is designed to come to worship to be fed the word and to go home and then we link together and we make sure We walk together and we make sure that we're well together and when we're well together We get to go out to the world That is not well and grab them one by one and say what needs to be said you have value You have value He who has value died on the cross paid a debt to show you forever once and for all you have meaning you have purpose You have identity because the lamb is a real lamb and his life is a real life and that life can change us right from Where we are he can break us from the sins of pornography and of sexual junk that is stealing us He can it can capture the depressed and lift us up He's got power to heal the mind the heart the body and the soul. Do you believe it? Because I gotta tell you if it's not true Let's go home and go to the Braves game or something like that. Do do something else Because I gotta tell you this is the thing is so wonderful if you know Jesus This is the most wonderful news you and I don't have a judgment day coming you and I have a judgment day That is passed. It's on the cross Where the judgment happens and I passed and you passed from death to life And now that life breathes in us and one day when this body goes down to the dust We're gonna enter that door of Revelation 4 and we're gonna behold him and there's gonna be a song inside of us Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and who is and who is to come he created us for a purpose Worthy art thou our Lord and our God to receive glory and honor and power You created us you made us and in Revelation 5. Look what he did. He redeemed us he bought us with a Price and we are his the devil cannot have us the devil cannot have our children We've got to rise in our day and say this is our day no matter what comes this is our day To stand strong to be strong and to follow the Lamb wherever he goes.
