It highlights the need to walk with the Lamb, Jesus Christ, and to have His character reflected in our lives. The focus is on worshiping the Lamb who was slain, acknowledging His sacrifice, and surrendering all aspects of our lives to Him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONTENT ------------------------------------------------------------------------ As John said, many times when the Lord walked Galilee, and he walked in Jerusalem, he would say to people, what do you want me to do for you? Now, he knows all things, but he wanted them to tell him, Adam, where are you? I mean, God knew where Adam was. Adam didn't know where Adam was, and he needed to say it. And I, sitting there, felt impressed that we ought to have a moment of prayer, and for you to tell him, what do you want the Lord to do for you? You tell him. And you know, there was a lady in the crowd that came, and everybody was thronging Jesus. But she got down low, and she crawled up and touched the hem of his garment. She said, I don't stand a chance fighting the crowd, but if I can get just low enough to touch the hem of his garment, he will meet me. And as he was walking, this woman came low, and through the feet of the crowd, and she touched his hems of his garment, and the crowd went like this, because Jesus said, who touched me? And the disciples said, what do you mean, who touched you? You see these crowds thronging you? But someone touched me, you know, because he read her heart. Her great need, she had spent everything she had with men's remedies and doctors, and no one could help her. But one right touch, Lord, what do you want me to do for you? And we touch him, and we find spontaneous love and mercy that's been waiting for us. So we want to bow our heads, and maybe you've had it in general in your mind, I need this, or I need that. But what we really need is to touch him, to know him, and maybe you need to end the quietness in the chamber of the secret place of the Most High, your spirit, where he wants to live and inhabit, to say to him, Lord, I need for you to do this. Tell him, let's pray. Father, we bow before you. Listen to the heartbeat of this congregation, the people, as they pray. Lord, do this for me, do this for my family, do this in my life. I need to be saved, or Lord, I need to be filled with your spirit. Lord, hear the cry of your people, and may there be in this moment a yes from you to them that's gracious. You tell him a bruised reed he won't break, a smoking piece about to go out, he won't put it out, but he will touch and bring more than you've asked or thought, you've never seen, I've never heard, we've not heard the good things that he's prepared for those who really ask. You have not, because you ask not. Ask him. Lord, you've heard the prayers of the hearts. You always listen to the prayer of our heart, not just our lips. So we bow before you in thanksgiving, in advance, in Jesus' name. Amen. Also, I feel that it would be good tonight to give those of you who've never done this, never, you may have come down an aisle, you may have prayed, you may have been in Sunday school, but have you ever afforded yourself of the immense heavenly privilege that angels look and marvel to stand and just say these words, Jesus Christ is my Lord. We're just going to wait, and as the Lord leads you, maybe it's your first time, you'll be amazed at what happens when you say that before the congregation. Jesus Christ is my Lord. There may be several standing, maybe, I don't know, but I felt the Lord saying, give them a chance to confess me before men, to confess that I am Lord. So we'll wait. If you want to just stand and just say it, Jesus Christ is my Lord, then sit back down. Who'll be, who has the need to do this? Let's all, amen. Jesus Christ is my Lord. Don't be shy. Amen. Amen. Anybody the first time, anybody the first time needs to stand and say, Jesus Christ is my Lord. Others, there's a lot of people, one second after their death would wish they had done that. Anybody else? Amen. Sister, just another second. Amen. Sweet sister, what a privilege it is to do this and to worship him together from our hearts. Well, Father, thank you for the testimony of this. And we don't want to leave anyone out, but Lord, heaven is listening. Earth is waiting and our hearts are needing to confess you as Lord of all. Heaven and earth adores you and worships you in this moment. And we add our praises to this earthly altar and say, Jesus Christ, you are our wonderful Lord. And we want to walk worthy of such as thee in Jesus name. Amen. We have a lot of ground to cover tonight, but I want to say this to you. It is holy ground. And I hope that you will have your Bible there. You may not use the same translation, but you'll, you have scriptures on the, some of them will be up top, but I urge you to find a piece of paper to write down these references and take them home with you as well and get alone with your heavenly Father and let the Spirit of God open up these scriptures to your heart because that is when the heavens will declare to you the glory of God. Well, I want to begin tonight by reading a text from Matthew chapter 22. It is an amazing text, but it's answering, Jesus is answering a question. He's answering a question of the Pharisees who ask him by whose authority are you doing these things? And so he answered them in a series of parables. In fact, it says in one place, he used a parable every time he preached. He gave little pictures to give a big picture. And that's what we do when we read the Bible. We see examples and types and pictures and metaphors that show the bigness of eternal things. And that's what we did Sunday when we looked at the blood covenant because I have never seen and ear has never heard even to begun to comprehend what God has gotten for those of us waiting for us who love him. So in Matthew chapter 22, Jesus is answering the question by whose authority are you doing these things? And so Jesus points them with a parable to something in the distant future for them. And let me read this with you. And I'm going to explain this as we go along, because it is a picture that is a living picture. And it's also a frightening picture. Verse one, Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables. And he said this, the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, which made a marriage for his son. Heaven, the kingdom of it, is like a great king who made a marriage for his son. Can anybody guess who that son might be? Well, and he sent forth his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding, but they would not come. They wouldn't act on the invitation. Again, he sent forth other servants saying, go tell those which are invited, behold, I've prepared everything. My dinner, my ox, my fat cows are killed, and all things are ready, come to the marriage. What an invitation from the king. But they made light of it. You know, that's the same word that it says over in Hebrews, where it says, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? That's the same Greek words there, make light of it. They didn't just treat it with respect. They went their ways, verse five, one to his farm and another to his business. And the remaining people took his servants and treated them very spitefully and even slew them. But when the king heard about this, he was angry. He was wroth. And he sent forth his armies and he destroyed these murderers and he burned up their city. And he said to his servants, the wedding is ready, but those which were originally invited are not worthy. Go therefore into the highways and whoever are as many as you find, invite them to the marriage. I'm inviting the people you find, he's saying, to the marriage. And so those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good. Now, why did he write that? Why did he say that? Because bad and good is not the way to get invited to the wedding. That's another criteria. He invites the bad and the so-called good in their own eyes to come to the wedding. And the wedding was furnished with guests. Now it gets mysterious. This is what the Lord is teaching. And when the king came in to review, is the word in the language, he was reviewing the guests. He saw there a man that had not on a wedding garment. Now the Jews understood this because when you went to a wedding, you wore a special type of clothes. You had to come a certain way. And you had to wear a robe that was, it was a white robe that was down to the wrists and down to the, your ankles. And it was, it stood for purity and righteousness. And it was a beautiful thing. So he saw a man who didn't have on a wedding garment and came to him and he said, friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment? See, that's the way you get in, the right garment. And he was speechless. He couldn't say a word. And the king said to his servants, this is where it gets frightening, bind him hand and foot, take him away and cast him into outer darkness. There'll be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And that description is in another gospel where it says there'll be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth when they see others going in and they're not in themselves. And then he adds this word, the Lord Jesus, for many are called, but few are chosen. A lot of people are invited, but they don't respond. Many are cold and some are frozen. The little girl quoted that verse. Many are cold, instead of chosen, she said frozen. Many are cold and some are frozen. And it's true. That is the case all around us. Well, this is a picture turned to Revelation chapter 19, and you'll see it is a picture of what will literally happen in the days ahead. In Revelation chapter 19, if it's still called day at this time, beginning in verse 6, there's a vision into heaven after you see Babylon destroyed and chapter 18, things coming together and all the people saying hallelujah, salvation to our God, glory and honor and power be unto the Lord our God. In verse 6, I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude as the voice of many waters like the ocean when it's got a hurricane. It's so loud and so big and saying thunder like mighty thundering, hallelujah for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Those are the verses that George Frederick Handel used to write the Messiah that inspired him. So they're saying let us be glad and rejoice and give honor to him because the marriage of the Lamb has come and his wife has made herself ready. How did she do that? What did she do to be worthy to come to this wedding? She's done it, she's got it ready to come and to her, verse 8, was graciated or graced. The word is charis, it was granted by grace that she should be clothed in fine linen, clean and white because here's what it means in scripture. The fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. The fine linen is the invitation acceptance, it's that gift that God has graced the church with that gives her an entrance that's abundant into this marriage right here. And verse 9, he says to me, write this down, blessed are they which are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he says to me, these are the true sayings of God. And John fell at his feet to worship him. He says don't do it, I'm just one of your fellow servants. Do you see what's waiting for fellow servants and for angels and for others in the days ahead? Who are these people? You'd seen them earlier back in Revelation chapter 7. Listen to how they've gotten these robes. Turn to Revelation chapter 7 and I want you to hear these verses in chapter 7 of Revelation. He sees the sealing of the 12,000 of each tribe of Israel and they're preaching but then he says in verse 9 of chapter 7, after this I beheld and lo a great multitude which no man could number of all ethnicities or nations and kindreds and people and tongues and they stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with white robes and they had palms in their hands. It's like the triumphant entry and they cried out with a loud voice saying literally Hosanna but it says salvation to our God which sits upon the throne and to the Lamb and all the angels round about this throne and the elders and the four living creatures they fall before the throne on their faces and they worshiped God. That's what happens when you see him. When you really see him, when the Spirit of God shows you who you're dealing with and what extent the blessings are going to be and here's what they said, Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be unto our God forever and ever. Amen. Now John is blown away when he sees this and the elders whoever it is there could see in him the absolute awe and question who are these people? Who are these beings from every tribe and tongue and trade and territory that are in front of the throne? And he comes and he answers this and he says who what are these that are clothed in white robes and where do they come from? Who are this vast throng of beings in white robes? What does it mean? And John says to him, Sir, he didn't have all the answers. He said you know, you know and he says to me these are those which came out of great trouble or tribulation and they have washed their robes and here it is they made them white in the blood of the Lamb. It's the blood of the Lamb that is a giving of the righteousness that is the criteria for anyone and whosoever of every nation and tribe and territory and tongue and they will have an abundant entrance into that feast that's coming the marriage feast of the Lamb that is coming sooner than you think and graciously given and therefore verse 15 they are before the throne of God and they serve him day and night in his holy temple and he that sits on the throne literally will spread his robe over them like Boaz spread his over Ruth to show that's his new wife for the Lamb that's in the middle of the throne will feed them and will lead them to living fountains of waters and all tears God will wipe away from their eyes all the tears that are there for a million reasons God will wipe away so you see they're praising God for the sacrifice of the blood and how he's given them these robes and they're worshiping him you see from the very beginning God has sought to show men that he cannot walk before the Lord in his own righteousness he must be given ingratiatedly the the righteousness of God and the picture of this here is a white linen garment it's called a kathonoth and it's an amazing thing you see it's the same root word that goes for the priestly undergarment the white linen robe it is like a woman's wedding garment that we see today in a certain sense it's white linen it's called a kithon or a kathonoth and it comes from a root word that comes from the Hebrew word kafar which means to atone to make a blood atonement for and here's a white robe that comes down to the wrists and down to the ankles and covered it's the wedding garment I'm ready to go in because you've purchased me and washed me in your blood and I'm invited to come in and I say yes Lord I come in so God wants us to see pictured over and over in the whole Bible the whole book is about him every prophet that ever wrote every prophet that ever spoke Peter says it in Acts 3 they spoke about him all the scriptures Psalm 40 and the volume of the book it is written of me I am coming to do thy will my father your law your word is within my heart Moses wrote about me said Jesus Abraham rejoiced to see my day and he did see it and he was glad God preached the gospel to Abraham it says in Galatians 3 he said he knew the gospel better than you or me probably even though we've had history to say to us you see so I want to go all the way back in our minds and show you the depth and the power of God's convincing you and me that we're to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh our own religious inclinations to do what we think will help well if you go back and just to see these holy parables back in way back in Genesis chapter 3 you don't have to turn there I'll just tell you this is right after Adam and Eve have sinned and Adam blames his wife and the wife blames the devil everybody's blaming the devil and I heard about the devil standing outside of church crying and he says those people in there blame me for everything plenty of things of course are his fault that we respond to but Adam is they're condemned they're under the curse and God gives a curse over you remember in Genesis 3 the curse that is the ground for that sake and he the whole trouble began but then you see Eve who's had never been named yet God says I'm going to put enmity between your seed, seed of woman and the seed of Satan and the day will come when that seed of Satan will bruise the heel of your woman's seed singular talking about Jesus but beneath that heel be crushed the head of the serpent and Adam says your name is Eve which means mother of the living and God made for them coats plural of skin singular first death in the Bible God took an innocent victim you could say or innocent sacrifice first time that death takes place and he puts that thing to dead death he makes the sacrifice and he makes out of one offering two two coats and the word there for coat is the same word for katan or kaphar the kathanoth it's a covering that God gives for a husband and wife in the sacrifice of the lamb only God can cover nakedness Adam tried you ever want to wear a fig bush in a bonfire let me tell you something it'll get your attention only God can can provide a covering Adam tried and he couldn't do it and we try in Isaiah 64 all of our righteousness is like filthy rags and the word in the Hebrew stands for leprous cloths that you wrap but I'm just going to say it mistress cloth that are used as well that's what it looks like when we dress up and the best that we can do all of our righteousnesses are like that to God he wants white linen because of the blood of the lamb it takes the life of someone else laid down to cover our sin but see Adam told his his sons Cain and Abel because you see the day came when they came to a certain place it means prescribed place and they came to offer and Cain came with the best of the fruit of the ground because he loved the Lord he thought and he offered the best that he could do and he brought all these beautiful fruits and beautiful platters and things to God and God refused his offering but Abel by faith it says in Hebrews 11 he takes the word of God his father had told him he came and he offered the first sling of the flock Genesis 4 which means he came by blood and Jude says that there's a religion of Cain that comes by the best that you can do you keep trying harder you keep doing all these things but God says rejected no wedding garment but we come by the blood of the lamb like Abel and God sees by faith that they're looking forward to the lamb's blood and he gives forgiveness it's the first mention of the blood in the Bible right there and when you see it it's speaking it speaks to father God it cries out Abel's blood for vengeance pleaded to the skies but the blood of Jesus for our pardon cries and often as it's sprinkled on our guilty old hearts Satan in confusion terror struck departs the blood of Jesus and so you see it going a few more years where where the religion of Abel the the faith of the Son of God believing looking forward it comes to time when Noah the whole earth has become corrupt genetically even corrupted by fallen angels and the Nephilim are there but one man is uncontaminated and his family and Noah says God says to Noah make me an ark of gopher wood it's wood covered with a a kind of pitchy substance and it comes from the word kafar it's translated atonement 70 other times in the scriptures it's like painting this protective from the wrath to come he paints this ark with this substance that means atone inside and outside and makes an opening in the side and God doesn't say go into the ark troubles coming he says come into the ark I'm not sending you in there when he says finally time to go he says go out of the ark and say come out of the ark God is in there sheltering them and with them the whole way through and come into the ark and when he gets out he dedicates the new heaven and earth there that they see by blood the same thing he's the one who knew the atonement so time passes by and you see in Leviticus when God says in chapter 17 to them I have given you the blood on the altar to make an atonement for your soul same word to make an atonement for your soul and when I see the blood I will forgive you it's it's the life is in the blood it makes an atonement later when David after after his crime has taken place and he he says blessed is the man to whom sin is forgiven to the to the Lord my his sin is covered the word is kafar which is the word for atonement that it's covered by the blood and it's it's it's not going to be the same Abraham remember Abraham when he made that offering the Lord said make a covenant with me and he cut those animals in half and he walked that sacred figure eight and he saw the day of Jesus and God gave him a promise for a seed that in this seed singular Galatians says all the nations of the earth would be blessed they come out of Egypt after years and years being 430 years there God told him you're going there when you leave I'm going to use you to judge Egypt their iniquities are not yet full but I'm going to use you to judge them and I'm going to bring you out with a mighty hand and they come across and they come across into the promised land they come into the wilderness into the wilderness and when they as they come out you know how they come out when God said I want you to take this blood and put it on the door of your house on the 14th on the 7th you take a lamb into your house on the 10th day of this seventh month it'll become a brand new thing in your calendar everything is going to become new you splat you paint the blood above the door and on the two side pours and it'll spill in the basin then you take hyssop which stands for repentance and you stick it in the blood and you you smear it on on the door the blood and when I see the blood tonight when I come through I'll protect you against the judgment that's coming on all those who aren't under the blood the blood again is set forth and not any person who was under the blood failed to come out out of Egypt that night so when they come out they come over and they're at Sinai and they see the God's presence on the top of Sinai and they're terrified Moses is even terrified and they come and God says don't let them come close because if they come close they'll be thrust through their life will be over God is holy he gives them the ten commandments you can't come near but then Moses comes down and he takes an animal and offers it as a sacrifice he makes two pillars two posts of stone sprinkles the blood on the people sprinkles the blood on the book that he's just written of the law and sprinkles the blood on the altar and then God says after the blood has been shed on the altar and they've been sprinkled in the books been sprinkled bring 70 of the elders of Israel up into my presence and it says in Exodus 24 that they went up and they saw the God of Israel twice it says it and they ate in his presence because you see you who once were far off and couldn't come near now you've been invited in to the banquet by the blood of the Lamb do you see this do you see God's invitation you're really looking at me weird I want you to know that listen you think I'm getting a little fervent I'm holding back I feel like getting this pulpit and running up and down the aisle swinging it around my head because I'm this is this is awesome stuff you see nakedness covered wrath kept away forgiveness bought with the price until you see over in Isaiah 61 when he has clothed me with the garments of salvation he's given me the robe of righteousness that's what Isaiah says and it's not the filthy rags it's the robe so the Old Testament foreshadows of him who knew no sin became sin for us that we might become in him the righteousness of God see your consciousness of who God is in mind your concept what comes into your mind when you think about the word God is the most important thing about you because a lot of people worship a God of their own imagination they read some things and they do some they get some thoughts and they put together this thing like like Cain did of his own ideas about good deeds and all the rest and they do all these things but let me tell you something if you worship an imaginary God you're going to have to settle for an imaginary salvation because he has done it all we got to see him as he is and one of the great safeguards is to see him in the word like that the whole volume of the book is about him he's he's wanting to show you and me how to trust him and who he is you see the word is a safeguard against an imaginary God and God reveals himself and his covenant to those who trust him and fear him and want him the corollary to saying Lord thy kingdom come is to mean with that same call my kingdom go your kingdom's got to go your self-government you're running your own shot and calling your own ways because God has a better way for you and you don't really realize it and I don't realize it until we begin to taste and see that the Lord is good and see how the banquet really is so I'm asking the Lord tonight in this next portion that was the introduction this is going to be to possess us because you see you come all the way through the Old Testament you come right to where after 400 years of silence between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew are between Jesus it's just like being in Egypt 400 years and all of a sudden a lone figure comes out and says prepare the way of God make the low place high bring the high place down make the crooked place straight take the rocks out of the road make a way a highway for God because he's coming in and so you see this happening and so John is out who is he's Jesus is his cousin remember and he saw that Jesus was born where where lambs are born and so you see in John chapter 1 he's introducing his son the heavenly father and in John chapter 1 verse 29 it's out in the wilderness you know where it is do you know where Beth Abra what it says right here is Beth Abra or Beth Abara which just means the house of passage this is where Joshua led the children of Israel through the Jordan River and where they set up those rocks and where they entered into the promised land right at that point where Jesus is and John is baptizing it's so significant we're ready for a new beginning after 400 years we're going to enter in 430 years now the way into the promised life is here and so you see in John 1 29 the next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world this is he of whom I said after me comes one who is preferred before me for he was before me but John was six months older but he was before me this one and I didn't know him even though he was his cousin he didn't know him you've been in church 40 years but you could be there sometimes and not know who Jesus really is you have all these ideas and John bore record verse 32 saying I saw the Spirit of God descending from heaven like a dove and it remained upon him and I knew him not but he that sent me to baptize with water he says to me upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him it is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and I saw in bare record that this is the Son of God and again the next day John stood and two of his disciples and looking upon Jesus as he walked he says again behold the Lamb of God take a long look behold and be astonished this is the Lamb of God now what did John mean was he just pulling a metaphor out of the air Jesus said there wasn't a better preacher than John the Baptist born of women but yet John is not just given a metaphor out of the air you see Lamb was this familiar term to all those people there and they had wondered where's the Messiah where's the Lamb they'd come out are you the Messiah is he coming they were looking for a man on a white horse to come and deliver them like Moses did from Rome and they had no idea that he would come where they needed him at the altar as the Lamb and not a king coming to swipe down Rome that's where we need him not where we think we want him but where we really need him is to wash away sin so all the Old Testament was about this and so you see that John says there he is this is the one of whom all the prophets wrote and of whom everybody has been expecting and you see the Old Testament is the root of the flower and the New Testament is the flower of the flower and you have to take them together don't listen to any nonsense by any preacher that tells you the Old Testament is not important or valid or needed because I'll tell you something that just shows me they don't have a clue who Jesus really is because that's just what the early church used to preach the whole Old Testament they preach like we discovered just now and with much more clarity even of course so so the Pharisees had a wrong concept of who God would be when he came and so having this wrong idea they missed him some of you might have come to these meetings thinking this is the way that God moves he may have something else in mind for you and if you have an expectation that he does not meet exactly like you think you might not recognize what he's saying but you see the Lamb of God here he is the Lamb of God all your questions if you understand who he is the Lamb of God will be answered you see he'll do it you see where is the Lamb of God here's the Lamb of God behold the Lamb of God right where we need him coming to take away sin so I just want to run you through this in your mind think about this I'm going to run you through a quick to show you how big this is because when John stood and pointed like that you think back to Genesis when the Lamb is typified by Abel the first thing I mentioned he's he's typified and he says it's by blood we come it is a necessity so you see the Lamb you see it's a progressive revelation here a little there a little precept upon precept line upon line God gives you more like you see the first mention of worship the first mention of the fear of the Lord all in Genesis the seed plot and to show you what it's going to be like you can't recognize an apple tree and a seed but you can know that it's going to become that as it grows and that's what God gives revelation of so you see this Genesis going on God's given Abraham a promise of a seed finally Isaac is born and he grows up by he's a miracle child and in Genesis 22 God comes after a long time of trusting him to Abraham and he says after Abraham's trusted God for a long time he says I want you to take your son your only son it's a picture here he had another son too but this is the son of the promise this is the one that counts take your son your only son to a mountain that I will show you and he told him to go up to what we know today is Jerusalem Mount Moriah Moriah means is from Jehovah Jireh which means in the mountain of God it will be seen or provided and so you see Abraham saying it's the first mention of worship in the Bible first time it's used it's the first time love is used in the Bible and it's in conjunction with taking your only son whom you love and taking him to a mountain and offering him there as a sacrifice and you see Abraham saying my son and I are going there to worship so see you see worship connected to this and there they go three days journey and the father puts wood he says to the servants wait here and he puts wood on the back of his beloved son Isaac was probably between 30 and 33 years old say the Jews at this point and he walked up that hill to Moriah and there Isaac who probably could have whooped his dad pretty good if he didn't want to get on that altar he got on that altar he put him there and Abraham he asks his daddy first my father here's the here's the fire and here's the wood but who will provide the lamb and Abraham says my son God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering God's gonna on this same mountain right here it's where the crucifixion would take place centuries later and so Abraham raises up that knife and God says withhold your hand now I know you fear God and it was the greatest example of a father and son he could ever be to be the father and his son who you never saw the father but Jesus was with his father's business right up to the cross and then the father turned his back on him my God why have you forsaken me so you see there you see the Lamb of God prophesied by Abraham but then you go back to Exodus where I just mentioned to you when they they're in Egypt they've been there all these years and God comes and he says I want you to take the Lamb's blood and put it over the door and when I pass through on the on the 14th day it's the same thing it'll be like I'll protect you against all comers it's the same timing exactly of the year and the day that the crucifixion took place you know Noah's Ark when it touched down on Ararat you know what day that was in scripture it tells you it was the 17th day of the seventh month you know what that morning was later resurrection morning study your Bible it'll curl your toenails it'll make you happy it'll make you sing you see in Exodus chapter 12 the blood is applied for a family and it takes the whole family be a believe on this blood and you'll be saved in your house but then you see in Leviticus when God says when you take an offering to me and you bring it the this sacrifice must be spotless it must be blunt blameless it must be without any blemishes 20 times it says it there and it teaches us something else about this this offering it must be spotless it must be perfect and it's exemplified but then you see you learn something more the Lamb of God is made personal in Isaiah 53 when it says there in Isaiah 53 it's amazing because listen to what it says beginning in verse 5 you've been listening very well hang in there he says in Isaiah 53 verse 5 he says he has he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed it says over and over our we and us all God laid on him the iniquity of us all we see that this lamb is a person that's where you learn it here you see that Isaiah says he's personalized the lamb is a person and he will have laid on him all the sins of humanity and it'll be upon him and we're plainly told that he is wounded for your and my transgression he's brought as a lamb to the slaughter it says and he opens not his mouth this is what that eunuch was reading about in Acts chapter 8 when his chariot the Ethiopian and he was reading he says who is this and Philip says to him he says I don't know somebody needs to tell me so Philip joined himself and preached to him Jesus showing this is exactly who is being spoken of here but see then we go to John 1 that we just were where the Lamb of God is identified he's been prophesied he's been he's been his blood's been applied in a picture he's been typified he's been exemplified he's been personified but now he's identified in John chapter 1 and so you see then Peter after John identifies him Peter then clarifies in his about the Lamb of God and he says listen this is a lamb that was a foreordained lamb like Revelation says the Lamb of God foreordained as the lamb before the foundation of the world Revelation 13a God's plan was to offer his son as a lamb before the foundation of the world and you see God clarifying this person is really the Lord Jesus and that's who it will be but now we come to what I would consider the main part where we're headed we read in Revelation already where John comes in and he sees the Lamb of God magnified by the hosts of heaven and finally in John in Revelation 22 you see him glorified by the father and words used seven times like come and and tabernacle temple and tabernacle so follow this carefully see the scope of the blood in in Genesis you see the blood for one person Abel in Exodus you see the blood for a family in the day of atonement you see the blood for a nation in Isaiah you see the blood he will sprinkle many nations and then in John chapter 1 the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world the whole world and you see in Revelation 5 all the universe the blood's enough for and in Revelation 21 all of eternity the blood so big so powerful but yet his blood avails for me for you one drop one drop of his blood is worth thousands and millions of the sacrifices there were there were like almost 2,000 sacrifices every year that were required by law you take that by all those years and you put it together millions of gallons of blood and all of it points toward even one drop of his blood worth it all behold the Lamb of God gentle meek submissive spotless at his birth he's born where lambs born to die are born at migdale eater at at the place in Bethlehem at his baptism he's identified as the Lamb of God at his triumphant entry he comes in on the day of Passover when all the lambs to be sacrificed on the Passover that's about to take place he comes in with them on a donkey on four legs just like them four legs and they cry Hosanna Hosanna like we just read blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord and all points to him oceans of crimson the blood of the Lamb and but it's in Revelation where I'm taking you to at the end now to show where we're really going because here's the question that each of us must face and each of us must answer as Revelation becomes clear to us by the Revelation I mean the Revelation of who God is in the book of Revelation our main lesson for tonight and I just want to nail it down with this because you see in those first chapters first three chapters of Revelation you see the Lord Jesus John knew the Lord Jesus he put his head on his chest at the Last Supper he could have heard his heartbeat within his rib cage but after the resurrection and the ascension and the enthronement of the Lord Jesus when John is brought up to heaven and there on the Lord's Day he's having his quiet time when he's outcast on this island and he hears a voice like many waters and thunders behind him and he turns around and he sees this awesome figure to see the one that spoke with me and he saw seven golden menorahs that's a picture of the churches you see it right here here's the Lord in heaven and the churches whether it's Persia or whether it's the first Baptist or whether it's last Baptist or whether it's East Rogersville what's this place yeah I'm just kidding but but see God is in the midst of his churches and he's trimming the wicks and he's adjusting the wicks like the priest does in the temple and he comes and he says I want to commend this about you you had a great meeting several years ago and it's wonderful and things have continued but I have a few things against you he's adjusting the wick he's trimming the wick he says you've left your first love you've tested those who say they're apostles and not but you yourself have left your first love see to seven churches to five of them he tells them repent it's a word not for just a lost man it's a word for the churches he's he's first off starting with his churches and that's what his concern is in our nation our churches in this country who are his churches need to hear his voice commending them but he says you are of little faith and you've left not lost if you lose your Bible by putting it on top of your car as you start home tonight and it's gone between here and your house you've lost it but if you leave it on the front pew like that's mine down there one of them and I get home and I said oh no my Bible oh I left it on the front pew all I need to do is go back to where I left it and you see you've left your first love remember where it was like your honeymoon with him and what he promised you and all the things you know are true and return and repeat the first works repent and I'm gonna bless you he says that to five of those seven churches only one of them has a name that's alive and is dead but you see him and he's talking to his churches but then you see chapter four and five it's like a parenthesis a glorious parenthesis between chapter 3 and chapter 6 chapter 6 is when the judgment begins and it's I mean Gabriel's licking his lips right now can you tell it like that shofar tonight I got a big old shofar from Jerusalem and I often go outside Cracker Barrel and I go I'm serious I do it in Atlanta and they come out look and I say repent the kingdom of heaven is in hand I'm serious you think I'm crazy but I do it I do it because it is a it's a you should have seen some of your faces tonight when that brother blew that I love it I've got a little one I've got a big one all my grandchildren good I say it's kind of love to show far I say I'll go first guys it's all slobbery when they get through anyway but because they just can't do it they don't run you know they try to think it's spitting in it anyway I'm sorry I just had to add that in to get your attention back judgment that's unbelievable we can't even fathom it and you see at the end of chapter 6 that people finally realize what's happening and they say oh no the great day has come and the wrath of who the Lamb who can stand and they hide in the they become like men and moles living in caves trying to get away from what's coming you'll never find a hiding place from God with I make my depths to see my home and in the Mount Everest he'll find you if you've been blown up in an airplane and you're a little are you been lost at sea and the crabs have eaten you and left you as waste all across the floor when he puts you back together you'll be back together and you'll stand before him and give an account for how you treated what you did with the truth of the Word of God whenever I get my hand like that I get this message on my watch have you fallen I said well I have fallen but I'm okay anyway they'll have to just come get me I guess in an ambulance or something I have to let them know you'll hear a roar out front it's crazy see let me know if I can help with anything no leave me alone that's what's coming in your homes because the devil wants to be play omnipotent he wants to play omnipresent he wants to act like he knows you and you don't really know he's listening but he's gonna do that if you can't wait let me just say in Revelation chapter 4 and chapter 5 God gives a parenthesis between the messages to the church and the judgment on the world and it's like he says I want you to get a perspective before all of this happens it sets the tone for the whole book of Revelation because God says there's never a panic in heaven all heavens in charge God's sovereignty is the reason you can be sanity you can trust him so in Revelation chapter 4 that's where I'm going to get the rest of this lesson tonight just for a moment after in Revelation chapter 4 beginning in verse 1 listen to this after this I looked and behold a door was opened in heaven and the first voice which I heard was the voice as it were of a trumpet talking with me a shofar which said come up here and I will show you things that must be here after and immediately I was in the spirit and you see in chapter 4 and in chapter 5 there are two things that are preceded by these words behold in chapter 4 you see one thing behold in chapter 5 behold God said this is what you should be considering and looking at to get it in perspective of what's really happening verse 2 behold I was behold a throne was set in heaven he had a vision of the throne and authority and the sovereignty of God and he that said upon him was to look like Jasper and a sardine deep red stone and there was a rainbow which is a covenant symbol around the throne inside like an emerald and around the throne were four and twenty seats and upon these seats I saw elders sitting with white clothing white raiment they had on their heads crowns of gold and you see these these behold the throne and you see down in verse 10 and the four and twenty elders fall down before him that said on the throne worship him that lives forever and ever and cast their crowns down before the throne saying thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory and honor and power for you have created all things and for your pleasure not my pleasure not your pleasure for thy pleasure they are and they were created behold a throne so the first thing you see is a throne because God's reminding you that he is the sovereign God he's the creator and he has the right to reign over everything he's made he has a right to you a right to me I mean it's his right and see and here's what happens when they see him on the throne they fall off their throne and so you learn inherently with the rainbow around what sin is sin is being away from that throne for the creation because it is and all are required to worship him and should worship him being away from that throne is the sin independence and repentance is simply coming back to the throne and falling down and bowing you see tears about the things of God without bowing and worship is mockery it's exalting see sin is self- coronation it's all it is acting like we have a right to ourselves you don't have a right to me God you don't have a right to tell me where to live or how to act but you see that's the first thing that he beholds but the second thing is in chapter 5 and in chapter 5 beginning in verse 1 and I saw in the right hand of him that set on the throne a book written within and on the backside sealed with seven seals it's a scroll you roll you write some roll it up right seal it right up a little bit more seal it it's got seven seals and this is the scroll that you see out over land it's God's righteous judgment he'll open it it's the Goel Kinsman Redeemer scroll if you know the books in the Old Testament and what God says I have a right to reign and so you see this Redeemer scroll written on the front and backside in verse 2 I saw don't give up on me yet hang in there we're going to get through because God's got a question for you I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice who is worthy to open the book and to loose the seals thereof where is the daysman where is the next of kin the kinsman Redeemer where is the Redeemer that's what it's saying and no man in heaven no man in earth or under the earth was able to open the book they couldn't even look at it and I wept much because John loved God because no man was found worthy to open and read and even look at it and one of the elders comes to me John John weep not behold the lion of the tribe of Judah the root of David has prevailed to open the book and loose the seven seals thereof he turns around expecting to see this lion of Judah this great powerful person and he says and behold lo in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts and in the living creatures and the midst of the elders stood a lamb as it had been slain that means scars marks of death of the cross having seven horns that's omnipotence seven eyes that's seeing all and seven spirits sent to all the earth that's omnipresence everywhere and he came and he said I'll take the book he took the book out of the right hand of must be the father here and he said on who said on the throne and when he had taken the book you talk about a ruckus you see over in chapter 4 there's great praise but in chapter 5 the praise eclipses it why we'll answer that in a moment he took the book the four living creatures and 20 elders fall down before the lamb having all of them harps and golden vials full of incenses which are the prayers of East Baptist Church Rogersville God saves them he writes them in his book he keeps your tears in a bottle and they sung a new song saying thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof because you were slain and by your blood you have redeemed us out of every kind and tongue and territory and nation and you've made us to God kings and priests and and we shall reign meaning with you on the earth for forever and ever and I beheld and lo the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders and the number of them was ten myriads it's not thousands it's myriads is the word of the Greek ten myriads of myriads and myriads of myriads vast innumerable praisers saying with a loud voice can you imagine can you imagine this worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing and every created being in heaven and on the earth and under the sea under the earth and all that are in the sea I all heard saying blessing and honor and glory and power be unto him who sits upon the throne and unto the Lamb forever and the elders said amen and that's a no it's got to be more than that we ought to be standing on our pews waving our jacket around our head saying hallelujah this is awesome you see you see the book of Revelation has more use the word worship is there 24 times and more than all the rest of the New Testament put together the word Lamb is there 28 times more than all the rest of the New Testament put together the word throne is used 46 times more than all the rest of New Testament put together but you see that worship the Lamb on the throne worship the Lamb on the throne and that's what God is trying to show us here that you see him as sovereign king and Lord of all in chapter four and it shows the dominion of the throne he's king of everything but in chapter five the eclipse is bigger why because you see all you have to do to create is just to speak but to be the Lamb and the Redeemer in chapter five had to die you have to give your blood and you see absolute holiness in chapter four but sacrificial love in chapter five you see him as creator in chapter four you see him as Redeemer in chapter five and so you need to get this here's the point of the whole thing tonight tonight right now at this moment somewhere wherever it is it's not like Dorothy over the rainbow it is somewhere that God has a throne that's physical he's in every place that's true but he has a throne and where that throne is there is his own choice of the revelation of who he is toward you and me there's a lamb on the throne of the universe the sovereign of the universe once was slain and now he reigns and it's a covenant keeping God he sits on a throne that splashed with covenant blood he sprinkled his blood there it's got a rainbow around it and it's it's it's a stunning thing see when you get a new president the government is still there but the way it's exercised is changed and so you see the government and the power and the kingdom of God in chapter four but who is on the throne makes all the difference and so you see who's on this throne of eternity is the Lamb of God and his character his character is to be revealed who is on the throne of the universe get this makes all the difference as to what that throne requires of me when I seek to get right with God or come to him did you hear that it's the Lamb that is to be my Lord where's the God of the Old Testament he's where he's always been he's promised the Lamb and he's given us the Lamb let me ask you a question tonight are you in fellowship with the Lamb of God before you answer here my question it's possible to be saved by his blood it's possible to know him in a real sense but you see do you seek to please the Lamb of God do you seek to be filled with the Spirit of the Lamb of God like we said last night are you walking with him can two walk together except they be agreed asks Amos am I in harmony with the Lamb see the world is not walking with the Lamb we act like people that are promo people for the for the kingdom to the world we try to get them in by hook line and sinker by any way possible but it's the cross and the Lamb that's the way that they must come you see the world isn't walking with the Lamb and so those must be made to see and hear who he is you see now here's what we tend to think there's a tiger on the throne and that means when you make me mad I can be in fellowship with this tiger kind of person on the throne because if you make me mad I'll just like a tiger does or maybe we think it's some MMA giant macho guy on the throne yes sir he's tough you know really tough guy and so if you make me mad bang in the name of Jesus and I understand that I felt that way a lot of times a tiger or a snake maybe we have this picture of a snake and if you make me mad I strike you you know or whatever else you see we're called by God into the fellowship of his son and there is a lamb on the throne of the universe so that means that when I become saved and I take his DNA I become my name is written where in the Lamb's Book of Life let me tell you if you go out here to the farm and look for the cows registry you won't find any human beings in the cows registry unless somebody's made a serious mistake it's just cows who do you find in the Lamb's Book of Life only lambs fear not little flock it's my good pleasure to give you the kingdom he says I send you forth as lambs among wolves over and over he talks to us about us becoming his he's the good shepherd of lambs and we are in that fellowshipping with Jesus is walking with the lamb and his nature in us Christ our Passover let us therefore keep the feast be under his blood eat his flesh drink his blood and let let the lamb reign over your heart I want to compliment you for listening this has been hard it's been a lot I know it is but I told the pastor tonight I want to give you something to keep you awake tonight I want you to slip out of your bed and get down beside your bed and say Oh God thank you Lamb of God I want to join my praise into that vast strong they're singing about your blood around the throne tonight you're the lamb you're still there you're never changed you're in charge you see too many people use the Bible to fashion a God who serves them but we are to be serving the Lamb of God so when we're truly saved our names are written in his book we become part of this flock we come to the throne of grace my sheep hear my voice we are the sheep of his pasture and the people that belong to him and he says I'm with you always as I was sent the same way I send you now why do you think it calls the church the Lamb's wife we read it so come unto me all of you who are weary and who are heavy laden and I'll give you rest but take my yoke upon you and you'll find rest I'm meek and lowly in heart that's the lamb talking you see I'd always seen that verse as like they said they'd train another bull to to plow they'd take a big strong old bull they've been plowing a long time and put another little bull with him and he kind of drag him around and he would learn by having a mutual dual yoke how to plow and I always thought well if I come to Jesus and take his yoke it's the jugum it's to come from the word cross that's his yoke but see it's not a bull I'm coming to it's not a tiger I'm coming to it's the lamb saying I'm meek and lowly and take my yoke upon you it's the cross you take up and I will make you just like me ultimately you'll stand before me just like me so you may be willing to do something great for Jesus but are you willing to do something small are you willing to be rejected are you willing to be called names because you don't believe certain things the world says you have to believe to be fair we're not our own precious ones we've been bought with the price thank you for listening to this tonight but I tell you I really shouldn't thank you as much as I say glory to God because I'll just tell you this never gets old and the yoke that he has us to take upon is the cross he hates on unequal yoke the Lord Jesus does not want on an equal yoke he says you can't put a bull and a donkey together it's got to be agreement in heart so come to me all of you who are weary and laden learn about me I'm meek and lowly in heart I'm the Lamb of God take my yoke upon you and you'll find a rest that you never dreamed you could ever have just like the peace that I give to you that will never go away but not like the world's well let me pray for you father tonight with the eyes that only you can give and with the heart that only you can really open we ask that you will open us up to your holy gaze and have us ask ourselves this question am I walking with the Lamb is his heart my heart do I want to be one of his who follow him whether so ever he leads me in these days do I want to know you as you really are or do I just want to be like Cain who invents his own way teach us in your word lead us to the things of Christ and may we tonight keep the Passover and take your precious word into us the Word of God and be washed in the blood and be clothed in linen righteousness the gift of God teach us how to rejoice in that and tonight to sing and worship you as we come together even as we sing to open this altar tonight in the name of Jesus just as if there's a throne here at the front of the church and Jesus who is omnipresent now and omniscient and omnipotent he's saying come to me come into the ark come into the tabernacle come into my presence come to the throne of grace maybe you've heard something tonight and you realize you hadn't been walking with the Lamb you've been trying to walk with a lion that that's not what he says he's like he is the Lion of Judah but his character is the Lamb of God and that's what he wants you to become so maybe you just want to come and you can't know what to say what do you want him to do for you fall on your face before the Lamb of God with all the hosts of heaven say Lord that I will be done my fight is over I'm laying down my sword I'm yours and I want you to take what you bought with blood and now I give you freely because I see and understand in a brand new way so in Jesus name would you open this altar Lord you open and no man can shut so would you open this altar and give people liberty and freedom to hilariously worship you and to worship you in the fear of God and in the holiness that you deserve friends quit worrying about what people will think and fall at his feet the altar is open in Jesus name you come come again you've been here earlier come again Lord I need you oh I need you not every hour I need you you're my one defense and my righteousness oh God how I need you my sin runs deep your grace is more grace is found that's where you are where you are Lord I am free holiness is Christ in me where you are Lord I am free holiness is Christ in me Lord I need you oh I need you not every hour I need you you're my one defense my righteousness oh God how I need you would you stand and worship me so teach my song to rise to you when temptation comes my way then I cannot stand I'll fall on you Jesus you're my hope and stay Lord I need you oh I need you not every hour I need you you're my one defense my righteousness oh God how I need you you're my one defense my righteousness oh God how I need you oh I surrender all oh I surrender all all to thee my blessed Savior I surrender all to Jesus I surrender all to thee my blessed Savior I surrender all to Jesus I surrender all to Jesus I surrender all to receber all och I just stood right here three weeks ago, talking about driving away from this church on Sunday, finding himself in a wreck, and his life flashed before his eyes. You know what his thought was? I'm glad I moved to this place. But there's somebody here that can't legitimately say, Jesus Christ is Lord. You might stand up, and you might give that testimony. You might say, Jesus is Lord, but you don't mean it. And I want to beg you. This song is all to Jesus. I surrender, not this little bit of my life over here, not this little bit of my life over here, not just this area. Everything that I am is surrendered to everything that He is. Sing one more time. And if that's you, would you come, come down, talk to me. I'm here. Brother Michael's here. Charlie's here. Josh is here. Come. Surrender today. Let's sing. All to Jesus I surrender. Lord, I give myself to You. Fill me with Thy love and power. Let Thy blessing fall on me. Lord, I surrender all. Oh, I surrender all. All to Jesus, my blessed Savior. I surrender, I surrender all. Oh, I surrender all. All to You, my blessed Savior, I surrender all. ...our local, and tomorrow at lunch, you can join us in our fellowship hall. We have a lunch prepared for you. I was going to talk a little bit. We were talking in my office today about the Second Great Awakening, and I talked to you all about that a few Wednesday nights ago. Well, good evening. We're so glad to be back with you. ======================================================================== Video: https://sermonindex2.b-cdn.net/PLIIvrcxyng.mp4 Source: https://sermonindex.net/speakers/al-whittinghill/blood-washed-robes-and-the-lamb-of-god/ ========================================================================
