 Re:

For the word of the cross is to those who perish foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of those who understand I will set aside.

Where is the wise man, where is the scribe, Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish?

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased through the foolshiness of the message preached to save those who believe."

But we do speak wisdom anong those who are fullgrown, yet a wisdom not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are being brought to naught.

"But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom which has been hidden, which God predestined before the ages for our glory.

"Christ is made unto us wisdom from God, both rightousness, sanctification, and redemption."

 Re:

1Co 1:30
Verse 30. But of him. That is, by his agency and power. It is not by philosophy; not from ourselves; but by his mercy. The apostle Paul keeps it prominently in view, that it was not of their philosophy, wealth, or rank, that they had been raised to these privileges, but of God as the author.
Are ye. Ye are what you are by the mercy of God, 1Co 15:10. You owe your hopes to Him. The emphasis in this verse is to be placed on this expression, "are ye." You are Christians, not by the agency of man, but by the agency of God.

In Christ Jesus. Cmt. on 1Co 1:4. By the medium, and through the work of Christ, this mercy has been conferred on you.

Who of God. From God, apo qeou. Christ is given to us by God, appointed by him to be our wisdom, etc. God originated the scheme, and God gave Him for this end.

Wisdom. That is, He is to us the Source of wisdom; it is by Him that we are made wise. This means that His wisdom becomes strictly and properly ours; it is set over to us, and reckoned as our own; It must mean simply, that Christians have become truly wise by the agency, and the work of Christ. The Holy Spirit is Quoted by Christ as the One that will reveal all this to the Believer: John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Philosophers had attempted to become wise by their own investigations and inquiries. But Christians become wise by the work of Christ; that is, it is by His instructions that we have been made acquainted with the true character of God, with His Grace, with our own condition, and with the great truth that there is a glorious immortality beyond the grave. None of these truths have been obtained by the investigations of philosophers, but by the instructions of Christ. In like manner it is through Him we have been made practically wise unto salvation. Comp. Col 2:3: "In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." He is the great Agent by whom we become truly wise. Christ is represented as eminently wise, and as the Source of all true wisdom to His people,

Proverbs 8:1-36 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures. The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Only Christ is the Wisdom of Heaven and God our Father, and He has chosen Christ Jesus to be our God, our Life, Our Savior and our Wisdom that Our Father has birthed in us.

In Christ: Phillip
