Mentally challenged people.

Me and my cousin were talking about homosexuality and how that they choose to be gay instead of it being DNA. I told him we are made in God's image and he said to me what about mentally challenged people. Aren't they soppused to be made in God's image. I told him yeah. And I didn't know what else to say after that.

I just want to know like why their is mentally challenged people?

Thank your for your responses

love, Eloy Lopez

 Re: Mentally challenged people.

I do not know for sure however I have known a few, and it is interesting how their mental conditions is a perfect mirror of some peoples spiritual condition. However many of those so called mentally challenged have more love in their heart that dozens of so called normal people put together, they are truly able to come to Jesus as a child. That being said we might have to reevaluate just who is challenged and who is not.

 Re: Mentally challenged people.

"Will not the Judge of the earth do right?" -Gen. 18:25

If you've ever worked with mentally-handicapped people (which I have) then you know that they really seem like kids in big bodies. They are adults, but still operate in many ways like children. Though the Bible doesn't give an "age of accountabiblity", it does seem rather against the nature of God to condemn those who possess the sinful nature who have no real knowledge of right and wrong. I am speaking more of the severely handicaped in that last sentence. King David says in 1 Sam. 12 (I think) that since his dead son can no longer come to him, he will go to his son [when he dies.] While David might have been refering more to the Jewish idea of Sheol than heaven [God's territory], the point is his grief began to end at that statement, and he certainly wasn't worried about his son being punished eternally. I think the Judge of the eart WILL do right, and that every man/woman given enough light to expose his evil works who refuses to repent will face condemnation. Again, I think some people are born with the sinful nature, but with no real ability to recognize sin.

What I would do with your friend is share with him this information and then swing it around to him (I am concerned that he is lost given the content of the conversation.) Stir his conscience by asking him if he recognizes sin in his life (if he can't, take him through the 10 commandments or at least a few of them to show him his sin - remember to tell him that Jesus said lust is adultery (Matt. 5:28) and hate is murder (1 John 3:15)) or direct him to http://www.thegoodtest.com

You won't convert anyone using apologetics because they speak to the head, and that's not where conversion takes place. Speak to his heart, the seat of his conscience. Before you talk to him, interceed for him in prayer - pour out your anguish over his condition with tears. Every Lot needs an Abraham to interceed for them.

-Chris

 Re: Mentally challenged people.

Here are some scriptures that may help.

1Cr 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

Jhn 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jhn 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Exd 4:10 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I [am] not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I [am] slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
Exd 4:11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
Exd 4:12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Personal testimony expanding on these Exodus scriptures that may help.

 Re:

I was a director for almost 8 years of Prospects which is a UK based evangelical charity working with what the UK calls "learning disability" and what the USA calls "mental handicap". This charity was founded almost 30 years ago by a Baptist pastor whose wife gave birth to a daughter with Downs Syndrome. God's hand has rested on this man and his work and I would heartily commend it to your prayer and other support.

The charity has several different aspects
1. Living Prospects provides and supports residential settings for adults with 'learning diabilities'.
2. Causeway Prospects provides 'fellowship' for the same folk in weekly/fortnightly meetings. They have some really excellent materials available which discusses the topic thoroughly and provide devotional materials for adults with 'learning disabilities'.
3. International Prospects works with others in other countries, giving expertise and some financial help.
4. Adventure Prospects provides challenging events and holidays.

If you have any contact with them, tell them 'Ron Bailey' sent you. ;-)

My 32 year old daughter lives in one of the charity residences in Reading UK.

Have you considered that God uses them in great ways? A handicapped child can stir more compassion in the hearts of men than ten-thousand of the most passionate sermons that can be uttered.

In Christ,

 Re: Mentally challenged people.

The difference between gays and mentally challenged people are choice: one group chooses what they are and the other has NO choice, the condition is imposed upon them is given at conception.

Why does God allow it? This may be a question you will have to ask Him when you get to heaven..although I suspect it will be of no consequence once there.

Is you friend perhaps fighting God with the excuses/questions he asked? Maybe you could ask him whether he understands everything, good and bad and how this will effect his decision making process. For example, I know nothing about mechanics but this will not keep me from gasing up my car and go where I want to.

Hope this helps..

 Re: Why Why?

Are you asking the motives of God?
The short answer is NOONE knows we can only guess, because we do not have the mind of God no matter how hard we try or study. His ways are not our ways.
Try another question, What is God trying to teach me in this?
