Lake was also a good friend of F.F. Bosworth and Charles Parham. Parham I know, Bosworth possibly, did not believe that Hell was a place of eternal burning and torment, but that those who went to hell were annihilated. Not to enter into that debate, but it is possible that Lake saw it the same way. I cannot remember from his sermons what his particular take was. Lake did mention some powerful encounters with God in Bosworth's home in Zion City. He also mentions Lilian Thistelwait (sp?) who was closely associated with Parham's work. I know one woman who knew Lilian and said she was a powerful woman of God.

Greg, You made the comment that a lot of John Lakes doctrine is very much off from the bible. What doctrines are you talking about?

I have read much of John G. Lake's works because there is life in them. He simply believed the Word of God and did the works of God as Jesus said that those that believed on Him would do.

I have never read anywhere that he made the statement that hell doesn't exist. I have found his writings to be very much in line with the Word of God.

I thank God for the life and ministry of John G. Lake. He was not all about signs and wonders either. He preached a stong message of holiness and sanctification of the believer. In other words, he preached the "full gospel".

There are some on this forum that cannot wait to find a speck in the eye of anyone that moves in signs, wonders and the gifts of the Spirit.

Hey brother. I've read those Lake quotes on several different occasions, but have never been able to locate the source. Do you know which sermon the quotes in question were from? I'd like to read them in context.

I did not know that Lake did not believe in Hell, Greg. I cannot imagine a Christian not believing in a real Hell, as it is embedded in the Gospel from the beginning! It is a foundational truth and THE thing that we are saved from, and with many, many references given from the lips of the Lord Jesus Himself.

Go figure...I believe you...but could you please post the references to his error?...as I have read every thing he wrote, and about him, I suppose, and have been unaware of this heresy.

I have often though, pondered this anomaly, IE; that apostolic men could so slide, after years of anointing. Two I consider; Alexander Dowie and William Branaham. Both, at the tail end of their amazing ministries were overcome in their Doctrine and ideas of their greatness.

Both believed that they were the Elijah to come. and the great apostle to the age. I think that Satan singled them out, as he too sees the anointing, and whispered great pride in their ears, and they believed the lie.

I do not believe that either one is damned though, as I see his mercies upon a life, not just a failing. Both were judged quickly; Dowie upon the dedication of his throne-like pulpit and temple in Zion, as he was struck with a massive stroke that he perished from 2 years later, with much suffering. The stroke flashed upon him, like lightening, as he reached to take communion at the dedication ceremony, in the presence of hundreds of witnesses., and subsequently, everything he had was taken away from him.

He repented before his death, and saw his sin, on his deathbed.

Branaham also brought real and mighty miracles by his hand, and many healings all over the Earth..and then later, he began to proclaim himself even as one of the 7 messengers of all the Earth,[ equal with Abraham..] and THE last prophet of this age; Severe error. He died in an auto accident early, before many of the promises that God had shown him that would come to pass.....IF....he remained faithful. He did not.

I do not believe that he is damned....just deceived before his death.

Lake abandoned Africa after his beloved wife died, and him with 5[?] children. He called her death "Satan's master stroke". He remarried soon after in America; Though yet anointed, this took the steam out of him. He was not happy with the people he turned his African work over to. His ministry in Africa is possibly the most amazing and truly Apostolic in the entire history of the church.

It is these that Satan seeks above all, in the theme of "Smite the Shepherd"...and the sheep will be scattered."

It is a shame that they surrendered to evil pride, but I do not see it as a mortal sin.

I have the complete works of John G. Lake which are filled with many of his sermons, and just as Brother Tom mentioned, I am unaware of this heresy that you are talking about. I would be very much interested in knowing where you got your references from.

O that the Body of Christ would live and walk in the authority and power that John G. Lake did.
