 Re: trusting in god?

well brother!

Ray Comfort always puts it in this way, to explain this, in a simple and clear way.

put on The Lord Jesus Christ and trust Him, like you trust a parachute.

you don't just believe the parachute will save you, you put it on, trust and know that the parachute is saving you from the jump to come.

a short little explanation :-)

in Him

William

 Re: trusting in god?

I would say that this trust is best described as a committment. It's really no different than the trust we excercise toward people, things, and circumstances in this world a thousands times each day as we go about our daily lives.

For example, consider when you go to the doctor. You obviously trust your doctor or else you wouldn't allow him to practice medicine on you. But have you ever really stopped to consider how much we really trust these people? I mean, I've never sat down and interviewed my doctor to find out how competent he really is; where did he get his training, where did he graduate in his class (Was he in the top five or was he a "D" student?), or better yet, does he even have a liciense to practice medicine? Yet, I go to him when I'm sick and basically commit my physical well-being into his hands.

Now stop and think just how many times everyday do we do this very thing; we totally commit and entrust our lives and well-being into the hands of people and machines that we actually know very little about. When was the last time you met with the airline pilot who was flying the plane that you were about to travel on, in order to see if he was competent. Point is, nobody ever does, we just trust the airlines that their pilots know how to fly and that they didn't come in drunk that day.

Now I would say that to place one's trust in Jesus is absolutely no different than this. In commanding us to place our trust in Jesus, God is not asking us to do anything different from what we all do everyday--He is only asking us to give Him the same trust and committment that we willing give to others each day. If we are willing to put our lives in the hands of some person that we don't even know, how much more should we be willing to trust our lives into the hands of the Almighty, God of the universe. I mean, who is more qualified than God to rule our lives? And He has gone to great extemes to prove to us that we can trust Him--wasn't that the ultimate purpose of Calvary: "For God has demonstrated His love to us in this, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8).

How to show others the way

You have asked a question regarding the most important issue in life, and I don't wish to repeat the through explanations above.

Some other thoughts went through my mind: Perhaps being afraid of getting it wrong is your best asset. It keeps you from impulsively spouting off too many simplistic “answers”. It will keep you from running ahead of the Spirit. After all, it is his job to bring others into a God-consciousness. Only he can awaken their sense of need for salvation, and he works according to his perfect timing.

People look for manageable formulas. We zealous evangelicals are often guilty of dispensing answers before the questions have been asked. We don’t work in step with the Spirit.

Jesus did not give controllable formulas. His responses to people were varied. He knew the hearts of man, and he knew how to touch their consciences. His response ‘Foxes have holes, birds have nests.” was a clever way of telling a “seeker” , “You cannot be my follower as long as you prefer your earthly securities.”

The best way you can show others the way to Christ is to let Christ lead your own life and teach you his ways. You can only show others what is really within yourself.

Why not seek the Lord through his word? He can give you enlightenment. There is no more loving way to use your time than to sit at the feet of Christ and learn from him. The results: You will radiate the love of Christ through your life. That is the best answer.
