 Impossible for Us

“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

About a week ago I had someone ask me how I was so strong in my Christian walk. I looked at her, lowered my head a bit and said “I’m not strong, I stay in prayer with God continually throughout every day when I am not in conversation with others. I can’t, but God can.” Then I shared with her about our precious Christ. Nine months ago, I would not have had the same answer I do today. Our heavenly Father allows us to go through experiences of various sorts and kinds to bring us into the clear reality that we cannot live what we are commanded to live within the scriptures without Him doing it in us and through us! It is impossible concerning us, but I know experientially that it is possible for God to do His work through us for His own glory. Our dependance is 100% on Him. Though many have a head knowledge of this truth, God will make it an inward experiential fact in His adopted children’s lives, within the timing He himself chooses to reveal it.

Salvation is Impossible for Us

“Jesus looked at [the rich young ruler] and said, “How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!” Those who heard Him said, “And so who can be saved?” But He said, “The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.” (Luke 18:24-27)

“Those who heard [Jesus] said, “and so who can be saved?” But He said, “The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.” Brethren the clearer and more vividly we venture into this truth, the more we see our own great neediness towards God! One who has not yet experienced this truth within a living reality through death on the cross with Christ will only be able to speak to others through the flesh. You see the things God requires of us are impossible for us to achieve with our own strength! Even conception within God’s kingdom is a work of God in three alone!

Preparation is Impossible for Us

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Eph 2:8-10)

Grace: free and unmerited favor of God

“…it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” There is a pride that springs forth within men that God will certainly take out of His children! It’s a pride in self, “a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements.” It falsely makes us feel superior to others, and as a sword we tear others asunder with its sinful use. Satan is certainly the father of pride just as he is the father of lies. Pride is why He lost his place in heaven and pride was the root cause of Sodom and Gomora’s destruction. "For we are His workmanship." He is the potter; we are but the clay. He is preparing us for whatever He has decided of Himself to use us for. As He matures us, and it is an inward knowing not a mere head knowledge, we will see the vivid truth. That is, we have had no part to play in this endeavor He took on, but an inward obedience which His Spirit even creates within us. His Spirit even provides that inward love which drives us to desire Him above all else, to walk in His ways. Oh, it is truly His workmanship lest any could boast, and dare take His glory!

Inward Spiritual Knowledge is Impossible for Us

“…when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you. (John 16:13-15)

Without the Holy Spirit, the Bible brings forth do’s, don’ts, and facts galore. The Spirit inwardly guides us into all truths! This is no mere head knowledge we are brought into either. Anyone can get a bunch of head knowledge from reading Christian books! No, He brings us inwardly into true spiritual knowledge, into a living reality connected to the Godhead, indwelt with the very life of Christ.

“…was it from you that the word of God first went out? Or has it come to you only?” (1 Cor 14:36)

We would have to respond no to both these questions posed by the Apostle Paul. We are merely recipients through Christ, the apostles, and prophets concerning God’s truth. Even in this, it is only by the Holy Spirit that we learn its spiritual meanings to us inwardly, creating within us a walking within it by Christ’s very life.

Things in our Control

Prayer, repentance, and staying in step with the Holy Spirit are certainly three areas we are charged with, and Christ has provided all we need to fulfill them. Prayer is our primary communication with God concerning all things; it is critical for all twice borns! In the event we grieve the Holy Spirit by disobedience, repentance keeps us in a right standing with God through Christ. However, sin should be the exception for a bought one and not the norm, especially once we wean off milk and start maturing more fully into the imagine of Christ within and learn to stay in step with the Holy Spirit. It is through Christs’ Spirit alone that His fruits are produced through us. I will touch more on these three vital areas at a later time.

Impossible: Conclusion

“He refreshes my soul, He guides me along the right paths for his names’ sake.” (Psalm 23:3)

“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7) It is when we, by God, learn to not trust even an ounce in the flesh, but wholeheartedly in Him alone, that we are in place to be used by God, and this journey into such a place is brought forth by God alone. Be of good cheer, though; we will learn through many and various circumstances to place our trust and dependency solely in Christ. For, “… a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, God, you will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17) So when all has been said and done, fear God, and lean not on your own understanding, but in humility keep your knees bowed and your heart towards heaven depending on Him in all things concerning yourself and your growth in Christ our Lord. Seek continually His Holy Spirit within you to guide you into all truth and walk you through it in a living way daily. For what is impossible for us, is very much possible to God.
