Short. 15 minutes of sincere and pure devotion to Christ and His cause.

 Re: A “Movement” of 1

I am sorry, Robert, but this is just 15 minutes of condemnation and tearing down of people in the church.

I cannot see how anyone can be helped, encouraged and edified by this message.

 Re:

Yes, there are lots of churches that meet in nice buildings. Who doesn't want a nice church building? But I am not hearing people on the stage of these churches go on and on and on about how nice and fine the building is. She lost me there. And then she says there are churches with fogs machines and laser shows, quite a few to hear her tell it. I don't know about the lasers but I do know that a few churches did have fog machines about 20-25 years ago but then got rid of them because they truly were and are pretentious. But I challenge anyone to show me where a Christian church has a working fog machine TODAY. You might find ONE, maybe two. My point is that they are not that common in churches TODAY. It seems to me that it is her who is making the big deal about the outward, external. As if she can't focus on the service because the building looks nice. Get your mind on the spiritual and not the physical.

 Re:

Just a thought as I haven't watched the video, but is it more probable we find true ministers of the gospel of the Jesus who had nowhere to lay His head in multi million dollar buildings and in places that violate his sermon on the mount, or say, somewhere else that is more fitting of the humility that is Jesus?

Again, just a thought.

 Re:

The point of the video wasn’t really about buildings and Sunday morning performances. The point was, at least as I saw it, that the church needs to be focused on disciplship and ministering to one another in order to be the church instead of just going to church. The speaker’s heart seemed to be for the body meeting one another’s’ needs and growth. I guess my view of it was overly simplistic.

You mean your own place of worship?

Luke 18:11 –
The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.’

 Re:

BranchinVine,

I'm confused by that response. I haven't preached in many years, and no, I wouldn't recommend people to come to the building I attend, but where I live it's the lesser of 3 evils, since LDS buildings outnumber every other by about 50 to 1 and there are only 3 Christian church buildings in my entire county. Last Sunday the pastor told an outright lie from the pulpit, and I think most of the congregation is just there because it's not LDS (all 12 people). I live in possibly the most gospel hardened place in the world.

EDIT: But you said, "you mean your own place of worship". I guess my answer to that would be yes, but my place of worship tends to be wherever my circumstances allow, and I would invite the fellowship anytime. I don't consider any church building my "place of worship", and I'm more and more concerned about the trend that does. Maybe I'm a Pharisee for the mindset that says "we are His temple", I am confident the Lord will reveal even that to me (perhaps He just did through you?).

Robert,
I will have to take a look. I spoke to soon I think, just assumed based on the responses (which is my error), and merits the response I received.

 Re:

Self-righteousness was the trademark of the Pharisees.

Luke 5:29-32 –
And Levi gave a big reception for Him in his house; and there was a great crowd of tax collectors and other people who were reclining at the table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

The Pharisees and their scribes would have no fellowship with the tax collectors and their friends.

But Jesus ate and drank with them.

Because the sick needed a physician.

And He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.

And where can you find the sick and the sinners?

Certainly not in the gatherings of the self-righteous.

Not even in the gathering of 1.

ADD:
Jesus will be there where there are the sick who need a physician and where there are sinners who need to be called to repentance. He found them there at Levi's reception which was unlikely to be "holy" as it was a gathering of sinners.

 Re:

BranchinVine,

Are you actually looking for a discussion, or just sort of saying things? I'm confused about both replies and how they have any relevance to anything anyone has previously said.

Are you accusing those in this thread as being self righteous Pharisees (or more likely than not, just me)? If so, I'm curious why?

 Re:

You decide.

The question is:

Have "Bible-based" Christians become self-righteous?

Once it was self-righteousness by works. Is it now self-righteousness by "purity" of one's own doctrine and "holiness" of the external form?
