 The Simplicity of the Gospel

[2Co 11:3 KJV] 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Many that call themselves Prophets today are guilty of leading people away from the simplicity that is in Christ. They lead believers away from a pure and devoted relationship that is just simply trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is what I believe the Apostle Paul was concerned about chapter 11. How do you see it?

Blessings to all!

Re: The Simplicity of the Gospel

Hello brother,

I think if we take into account the letter to the church at Rome and the church at Galatia, probably also the letters of John to create a Fuller context of what's being spoken of here, if we can identify through early church history, Paul is speaking about either the gnostics who would have had false apostles and prophets who preached a completely different gospel that John mentions as Antichrist because they denied that Jesus came in the flesh, the judaizers which came from James which came into spy out the liberty who the apostle Paul called false brethren both of these were the two categories of false apostles and prophets.

When it comes to Paul talking about the simplicity that is in Jesus Christ he's probably referring to the judaizers because of their adding the law of Moses and circumcision as a part of how the Christian and the gentile needed to be saved and justified which took away the simplicity and the liberty of faith and Grace and a transformed holy life.

I think the early Jewish Pharisees and some of those of priestly converts moved into this judaizing idea to towards the gentiles and were not looked upon fondly by the apostle Paul.

It is evident that Christians that had the orthodox belief in the cross of Christ and the Messiah , repentance the apostolic gifts and the gifts of the spirit were never considered false prophets of a false apostles , unlike what many Christians do today towards those with an orthodox belief that move in Supernatural gifts and apostolic ascension gift ministries,
this type of labeling Christians as false apostles and prophets goes way beyond the intention regarding the letters of the apostles.

1 cor14 36 did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? 37If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

One of the only examples that we can see of people who proclaim themselves to be spiritual or prophets that were actually apart of the church at Corinth Paul has called them ignorant if they didn't heed his letters. These seem to be genuine Christians who thought themselves to be prophets and mature in the spiritual sense,I'm sure Paul would delt with them when he got there. So in a biblical sense those that proclaim to be prophets or spiritual are not always false prophets or false brethren but were in this case ignorant if they didn't heed the apostolic warnings that Paul put out.

The grievous mistake that I made in many still do today is that we judge people who are in prophetic ministry or who claim to be prophets and imagine that we know that they don't obey the letters of the apostles and that they are living in some type of sin and disobedience because we perceive them to be believing in some sort of a false teaching which in many cases has roots in the scripture that we are not aware of through our own ignorance of what others believe.

Many years ago I did that with calvinists until studing and realizing that they really do believe the scripture teaches that 5 point doctrine and I can see why because of the verses that they believe teach that.

Like John Wesley and George Whitfield had serious disagreements to a point where they said that they preached another gospel this went on for a period of time until they matured and realised they were preaching the same gospel but from a different viewpoint and perspective.

People condemn the seven mountain mandate theology so to speak and dominion theology not realizing that it has its roots in Post millennialism which was believed by John Wesley, George Whitfield , Jonathan Edwards and many others who were fine upstanding leaders and our forefathers, today we condemn those that have that belief system saying it's unbiblical but when you listen to Jonathan Edwards you'll see that their perspective is different and they honestly believe the scripture teaches a type of dominion theology and these were sincere godly men.

Where should we quick to hear and slow to speak when it comes to those that make the good confession of faith and claim Christ as being their Lord and savior and confess the new birth and filling with the spirit, the apostle Paul said who are we to judge another man's servant 😀🙋💜🙏

 Re:

Yes brother, but we must be very careful that we don’t be deceived…

Paul didn’t use excellency of speak or man’s wisdom. He didn’t desire to draw people to himself but only to Christ.

He was an untrained speaker but He had great knowledge of Christ and the true gospel message.

He desired the believer to have faith in the power of God not in the wisdom of men.

Many of these modern day prophets like to have the preeminence over others. They liked to be looked up to as having a revelation that they claim God gave them. Making people think that they need them more than the written Word of God.

They use people for gain because of their lack of knowledge in Christ when Paul gave us so much truth and knowledge from the Lord in all his epistles.

So many people get hurt and fall away going to get a word (from so called prophet) when they just need to get rooted in the Word.

Blessings brother
