CHRIST, A PLEDGE OF OUR DAILY SUPPLY

TEXT: ROMANS 8:32

''He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?''

By the gift of His son for man's redemption, God has declared that nothing, either on earth or heaven, can He grudge humanity: he who can give access to the ocean, would not grudge a few drops. All the wealth and comfort of this life put together, are but a drop from God unfathomable wealth of all good things. Jesus is the crown of all the riches of God: all that God has, issue from Jesus; Christ holds in Him all things of God! So, the release of Christ to us, pledges that all needful for our passage through this life is assured. We pour contempt on God, if we supposed that there is any good and needful thing God could still grudge us. It is clear hypocrisy to profess trust in God for eternal life, but fail to trust Him for daily bread; eternal life through Christ comes by higher price and pain than daily bread! How we often mock ourselves to be ever ready to tell men that God gave us His Son, but hesitate to remain calm and trustful when needs for daily welfare stare us in the face! Saints, if we cannot trust God for cloth on our back here, how dare we profess that we trust Him to give eternal garment for our soul? He who truly believes God for a mansion in the other world, would not doubt Him for a cottage in this world. See, dearly beloved, Christ was given to silence our anxiety! How monstrous and brutish is it, to house doubt for daily bread in our heart, when the maker of the life-time victuals is ours! If there be anything God can grudge the redeemed, He by that, elevates same above Christ: which can never be done! Let us weep hard and long, that our evil hearts of unbelief still argue that God would deny us daily bread, when He did not spare His Son. Beloved worthies, of whom this world is not worthy, go joyfully on your way, for you are not deniable by God for Christ's sake! Enlarge thy desire after what is needful for life and godliness! The only thing our prayers cannot get from God, is that which is above the gift of His son: but the scripture declares its ignorance of such things. For your shame, ponder this question: 'He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?'
