“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
Often we think that our greatest hindrance to living the Christian life in victory is the devil, but we know from scripture that Jesus has already overcome and defeated the devil, and has given us authority over the powers of darkness.
Some of us believe that if we just had a stronger will or if our circumstances would change, or if other people would change then we could live in victory.
Jesus said that if we wanted to follow Him, and that means to be His disciple, we must deny self.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” ( Galatians 2:20)
Andrew Murray has written many wonderful books on how to obtain victory and live a life that is pleasing to God. This is what our dear brother said about the self life.
“it is self that is the root of the whole trouble. And therefore, if any one asks me, “How can I get rid of this compromised life?” the answer would not be, “You must do this, or that, or the other thing,” but the answer would be, “A new life from above, the life of Christ, must take the place of the self-life; then alone can we be conquerors.” _________________ Mike
