 Sleeping Christians: Sardis

“I [Jesus Christ] know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, and yet you are dead. ” Rev 3:1b

Any Christian work that does not have Christ at its head, the Spirit directing and empowering, and God the Father’s stamp of approval is a dead, lifeless, mere work of the flesh! There were deeds occurring in Sardis, but not in surrender to the Holy Spirit. There were prophecies, and words being spoken we can assume, but not of any usefulness concerning the kingdom of heaven! Still, they looked and sounded good to most there in Sardis, before this revelation was given to the church. Surely words of peace were spoken, words that comfort and soothe that would not disturb any listeners from their spiritual slumber. As they continued playing with the things of this fading world, they were like puppets blindly led by the spirit of the world. They dangled from its strings in awe, and amazement, at the things Around them.

What’s Christ’s answer to such? The message has always been the same: Repent, and turn back to me!

Christ is calling to us. He would have us awaken, repent, and fight against the spirit of the world that’s being allowed to cut off real communication with Him! He calls us to remember that “He who lives within you is stronger then he who lives within the world!” Become alert once again brethren throughout Christendom, arise from the illusions Satan has placed you under due to his trinkets you’ve picked up on your journey! “Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you!” Remember brethren, look back to your purification from your former sins! Think back to that day Christ took away your blindness, and your slavery to this world was broken, shattered into pieces!

Then “applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor unproductive in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:5-11

Christ our Lord exhorts us and warns us to “remember what [we] have received and heard; and keep it, and repent, [ repent!] For if you are not alert, [Christ has warned you, He] will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour [He] will come to you!” Rev 3:3

It is urgent you wake back up, getting your minds centered back on Christ! If you do not wake up, I repeat, Christ is going to come like a thief unto you, and you will not know at what hour He will come to you! I do know that those of you who slumber do not want Him to come to you in the state you are in right now! It will not work out for you, no matter who has said otherwise.

“He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and [Jesus] will not erase his name from the book of life, and [Jesus] will confess his name before His Father and before His angels.” Rev 3:5

Based on the above words from Christ mouth. If we do not overcome what will be our end?

If one does not wake up, if one does not repent, if one does not crucify their flesh and follow Christ, but continues on a path of toying with the spirit of this world, being dazzled by the demonic spirits things, and the sins that they have put before you, then what do you suppose will happen? Certainly one would not be greeted as an overcomer! For “heaven and earth will pass away, but [Christ’s] words will not pass away.” Matt 24:35 Without repentance, and turning back to God inwardly there will only be death for you to come. When Christ comes back, like a thief to you. We will each reap what we sow. If it is towards the things of this world, we will reap death be certain of this, though self proclaimed prophets say peace, peace, and all of hell lie to you! However, if we sow towards the things set above, then we will reap life through Christ Jesus. Gal 6:7-8

This is not a time of spiritual peace, but of spiritual war, and the saints that are playing, instead of wrestling with the dark forces covering them will become casualties! Repent! Turn away from the things of this world, that the spirit of the world has control over, and through your use of them, control over you!

We have heard Christ words below many times, but has it sunk into our spirits through the Holy Spirit yet?

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take extra oil with them; but the prudent ones took oil in flasks with their lamps. Now while the groom was delaying, they all became drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there finally was a shout: ‘Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. But the foolish virgins said to the prudent ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ However, the prudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Yet later, the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour. Matthew 25:1-13

Again, “while they were on their way to buy the oil, [Who? The virgins that were not prepared. Why? They were focused on worldly things.] The groom [Jesus Christ] came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Yet later, the other virgins [who were not prepared] also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us. But [Jesus is going to answer those not prepared by saying.]‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ He did not know who? Those who were not ready, those who had heeded to the sway of the spirit of the world, and never came back to a right standing [repentance and following] Him in time, before His coming!

“Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour,” Christ is coming back!

“…salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless with what will it be seasoned? It is useless either for soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 14:34-35

This spiritual battle is going on all around you. Your computers, TVs, in books, on radio stations, your thoughts, etc! The things of the world, led by the spirit of this world have a stronger pull coming forth from them, and this is going to increase, not diminish! Now is the time for you to repent, and break free from the grasp of our enemy through Christ, and rejoin your brethren with the full armor of God on. Again, you already know these verses, but have they been put deep within your spirit, by the Holy Spirit? Do you truly understand that we are in fact in a spiritual war, and the enemy defeats us when we give in and play with his toys, instead of focusing on Christ Jesus and,

“whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Brethren, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:12-24

“Wake up and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God.” Rev 3:2

“The one who overcomes will be clothed the same way [as the brethren that didn’t fall asleep in the first place,] in white garments; and [Christ] will not erase his name from the book of life, and [Christ] will confess his name before [His] Father and before His angels.” Rev 3:5

“The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Hey Billy I was going you could expound this portion a little further:

//It is urgent you wake back up, getting your minds centered back on Christ! If you do not wake up, I repeat, Christ is going to come like a thief unto you, and you will not know at what hour He will come to you! I do know that those of you who slumber do not want Him to come to you in the state you are in right now! It will not work out for you, no matter who has said otherwise.//

 Re:

Unrepentant sin creates a spiritual disconnect between us and God, as the unrepentant sin continues forward it becomes harder and harder to deal with. The communication we first enjoyed with God, we don’t have anymore, instead we have through said sin opened ourselves up to the spirit of the worlds suggestion, and given said sin an authority over us until we repent. I do not believe any Christian wants our Lord to come back to their surprise and be entangled in sin brother TMK.

Just getting off work. Going to drive home now. I hope I’ve answered what you were asking.

Added: Just got home brother. On the last part. When I say it will not go well for that person I mean. That person is in severe danger of Christ’s judgment if they do not repent and get right before His coming for obvious reasons.

 Re:

The experience of many Christians, perhaps most, is that they go through periods of “slumbering.” There are mountaintops and valleys in the Christian walk; some liken it to a rollercoaster ride.

Of course, the goal is to be always endeavoring to go higher. As an illustration, if you look at the stock market over the past 100 years it has steadily climbed upwards, but if you look closely at the graph you will see peaks and valleys but nonetheless a steady move upwards.

So I was more interested in what you considered “slumbering” and whether there is grace for the periods of slumber.

 Re: brother William

Yes Amen !

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation;

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

 Re: TMK: Grace

TMK I know this through experience. So grace rushes out of it if you see it from my viewpoint.

Do I want to go back to sin so grace my abound! No, I don’t want anything to do with sin! Sin is death.

“I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail; and you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” This verse has been impressed on me for awhile.

 Re: JFW

Amen, we need every Word from God’s mouth to dwell within us!

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

 Re:

"When we are aware of the enemy's tactics, we can be prepared! Not in our own strength or wisdom, but looking unto our Captain and Leader, the Lord Jesus Christ, victory is assured! HE is our wisdom and strength and our victory! But we can't lie down and go to sleep (spiritually), being passive and lazy, for He has called us to be soldiers, going forth in His strength, at His command. We are not to be spiritual invalids, having to be protected and cared for as helpless babes. Neither are we to try to fight the battles in our own strength. Each extreme is bad and doomed to failure . . . that is, if our goal is the prize of being an overcomer! We overcome only in HIS STRENGTH, the Christ within us doing the overcoming. Christ within, working through us, not Jesus doing it all for us, while we lie at ease on the sidelines, passively watching! He is preparing SONS and OVERCOMERS and MATURE SOLDIERS, trained and skilled in spiritual warfare!" Alma E. Mcclure
