Marquis Laughlin is a former actor whom the Lord saved in Hollywood, he mentions that in this interview here:

Being a former actor he presents dramatic recitations of Scripture which sometimes may or may not fit with certain books or sections of the Bible or possibly the Bible in general, however Marquis recites Scripture in a clear and professional way and the value is in the text itself which as Revelation speaks about holds a blessing for those who hear it, as does the rest of Scripture.
From what I understand, Marquis has memorized 7 different books of the Bible in their entirety, including Genesis, Exodus, Ecclesiastes, Daniel, the Gospel of John, the book of Acts and Revelation. It is a feat to have one of those books not only committed to memory but continually retained in a way where it is possible to recite to others. It is a testament to the level of dedication and discipline involved in such a ministry, especially considering the fact Marquis memorized all the books as an adult. It is a great stimulus and encouragement for all of us, young and old alike to be involved in Scripture memory, individually and collectively, and to promote this practice of the Church as much as possible which reaps great rewards in many ways. Marquis briefly explains his "journey" in Scripture memory here:

Another example is the National Bible Bee which is held every year for individuals between the ages of 7-18 who learn and then recite from memory large portions of Scripture, young men and women, boys and girls, each in their own way, style and form, and the value of simply hearing and listening to the recitations of God's word is immense. The "competition" is held every year around November in the United States of America.
In terms of dramatic performance, it is true people have their preferences, that is why there are usually audio Bibles in both dramatized and non-dramatized form, I listen to the NT in several languages (English, Lithuanian) in non-dramatized versions however in the Russian language the NT audio is dramatized which sometimes can seem out of place (especially in the book of Revelation where background sounds are added for effect!) however it is the best NT audio Bible available and it is easy to look past the minor preferences because listening to the Scriptures in high quality and professional recordings is an immense privilege and brings much fruit (faith comes by hearing). |
