 Lawlessness and love

“And because lawlessness will abound the love of many will wax cold.”

We must guard our love in times like these because our love will be fiercely tested by the astonishing things that threaten the loss of all that was held dear. “If the foundations be removed, what can the righteous do?”

Who can escape the sense of outrage, and indignation at the appalling abandonment of reason?, at the casting off of all restraint, the contempt against authority, the crass forms of manifest hypocrisy, the political opportunism, the application of double standards, and the artful spinning of words to hide, distort, and lie for advantage? What love can survive this? There is only one source for such a love that is contrary to nature and beyond human ability. It is the miracle love of God that does not have its source in man but God and that’s just the point.

We see from the church of Ephesus the premium the Lord puts on the indispensable grace of love. So much so, that a church who excelled in zeal for purity of doctrine, a church whom the Lord even commended for their discernment and zeal to expose false apostles. Nonetheless, such an otherwise exemplary church is threatened to have their candlestick of witness removed unless they repent and recover their first love. Just as Paul says, “though I have all these things, without love, it is all for nothing.”

Satan is using the world being the world to try to get at our love, knowing that if he can defeat that, he has stopped the one thing that keeps our light shining in this evil generation, among whom we shine as lights.

We must guard our hearts with all diligence, because of what we will be seeing and hearing of unconscionable moral outrage, of injustice and hypocrisy, of the appalling audacity of the “progressive” left. All of this will test our ability to maintain love and the stability and clarity that can only be sustained by the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

It is happening here and the amazing lunacy and madness is already spreading to other nations. It will be used as a point of unification for all that is opposed to the Word of God. Many who can agree on almost nothing else, can agree and unite on this: nationalism and Christian values must go, at all cost. They see it as war, and, as the old adage says, “all is fair in love and war”, they do not hesitate to deliberately lie and manipulate, just as a spy or person in espionage would feel is justified in a time of war.

Those now antiquated values and norms of the past stand in the way of the new unification based on the power of anarchy to impose its will against any form of restraint or authority.

It’s intolerance, entitlement, and demand for the reversal of all the past and a revision of how history should even be seen and interpreted.

It’s the upturning and overturning of the past and launching into the frontier of a brave new future that has learned nothing of the past. It is ultimate self confidence and hubris.

docs: 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (II Timothy 3:1-5)

 Re: Lawlessness and love

Brother David,
Thanks for sharing this 🙏🏻
I too see it as brother Reggie and the only thing I have to add is that often we get tricked into taking sides and as such can only (at best) hope to be on the good side of the wrong tree... and that’s when we “lose our love”
More than choosing a side, it’s important to know where we stand. 😇
As Paul said,... having done all else, stand-

Blessings dear brother <\\\><

 Re:

Thank you so much for the post brother David and reply brother Fletcher!

What came to my mind when I read brother Fletcher’s post is in the passage where we read about being equipped with the full armor of God.

What is the point of the exhortation there?

“That you may be able to stand!”

Not be equipped to fight against fellow image bearers of God, no, no, no. We are in a spiritual war!

Surely the light of Christ will shine brightest as we love our enemies, and yes, may our love never grow cold!

Loving you all from Minneapolis!
