 The Only Hope For America

"‘And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Thus I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads,’ declares the Lord God" (Ezek. 22:30-31).

We know clearly from Scripture that the heart of God is to save and deliver, not to judge and destroy. He is patient toward us and slow to anger, desiring that no one perish, but for all to come to repentance (2 Pet. 3:9). However, when a nation, or a church, or an individual continues in sin and refuses to repent, there comes the point at which God is so grieved by man’s rebellion and wickedness that He pours out the deserved judgment.

Sadly and tragically, America is on the brink of such serious judgment. Thirty years ago David Wilkerson, in his book Set the Trumpet to Thy Mouth, described the reason for the terrible judgment looming over this nation: "It is because America has sinned against the greatest light. Other nations are just as sinful, but none are as flooded with gospel light as ours. God is going to judge America for its violence, its crimes, its backslidings, its murdering of millions of babies, its flaunting of homosexuality, its corruption, its drunkenness and drug abuse, its form of godliness without power, its lukewarmness toward Christ, its rampant divorce and adultery, its lewd pornography, its child molestations, its cheatings, its robbings, its dirty movies, and its occult practices." And how much more grievous is the sin today?

Of course, some measure of judgment is already upon us. The God who makes nations great and who destroys them (Job 12:23) is already allowing America to experience the breakdown that comes with pride and rebellion. The Scripture warns us that God is not mocked – what we sow, we reap (Gal. 6:7). America is losing her greatness because of the sin of her people. Have we not reached the point described in the Book of Judges in which this nation is doing "evil in the sight of the Lord" and everyone is doing "what [is] right in his own eyes"? (2:11; 21:25). When the nation reaches such a point, the Book of Judges reveals over and over that judgment is certain to follow.

The Response of God’s People

It is not surprising that unbelievers continue on in defiance of God. What is surprising is that many in the church are apathetic, lukewarm and casual about sin; or, even worse, are themselves actively rebelling against the Lord and His Word. This is an hour when God’s people should be filled with grief over the state of this nation, and even more so over the state of the church. The terrible condition of this nation is, after all, a reflection of the condition of the church. "…It is time for judgment to begin with the household of God" (1 Pet. 4:17). The only hope for the nation is humility, prayer and repentance on the part of God’s people (2 Chr. 7:14).

Although the front page message "We Plead Or We Perish" was written over thirty years ago, it seems that it was written for this very hour. The situation is that critical and desperate. Judgment is that imminent.

Thankfully, God’s heart is that we plead. He is searching for those who will "build up the wall and stand in the gap" before Him so that He will not have to send the impending judgment. His desire is for spiritual awakening and revival.

So the question is not in regard to God’s heart, but in regard to us. Will we respond? Have we finally reached the point where we will cast off our apathy, lukewarmness and sin, and turn our full attention to the Lord? It should drive us to our knees in deep humility, repentance and intercession to know that what happens to America in the days ahead is dependent upon our response as God’s people.

Is this really the Church’s fault? I am not saying yea or nay, just tossing it out there.

When pastors are not preaching truth from the pulpits, when the Church is not awake to their own pitiful condition, and there is not true intercession for the Church and nation, then what goes on in the nation is a direct result of the poor condition of the Church.

 Re:

True Christian churches are preaching truth from the pulpits. Liberal churches that teach lies or are headed by homosexual pastors are not true Christian churches. I am not counting them when I ask if it’s the Church’s fault.

Note I capitalized “Church.”

So I ask again, is the Church at fault for the condition of America?

Thanks for sharing this Mike.

Our only hope is a repentant cry to the Father of Mercy. If you're not in a regular prayer meeting that is seeking God for mercy then please start one. Our future depends on it.

In Christ,

 Re:

Hi TMK,
This is a hard one to answer or even to know.I listen to Times Square and Carter Conlon and see him preaching the right stuff. Is he or Times Square at fault?Probably not
I do know however what the bible says to correct the issue
"repentance starts at the house of God"

I have seen things that I didnt believe I would see and have indeed never seen before
1.A president getting prayed over live on tv all over the world by a Christian Pastor
2.An administration standing up for Israel and Anti Semitism
3.A President pray at a national prayer day
4.A Leader of the US mentioning and thanking God whenever he gets the chance
5.A clear and obvious stance taken by the White House against Abortion

So is America in a better place now than it was two years ago .Yes and Amen
I think the environment could be being forged as we speak for a "repentance in the house of God"
Indeed the list mentioned above are a form of repentance or turning to God,

 Re:

The situation that we are in right now as a nation happened on our watch. We are responsible for it, and as Ron said, it will take repentance, and that repentance is identificational repentance. We stand in the gap confessing the sins of the Church and the nation, taking responsibility for what has happened. This is the repentance that the prophet Daniel took part in saying "we have sinned." Daniel prayed a prayer of national repentance, repenting of sins that he was not personally guilty of.The great revivals that took place in the nation of Argentina were a result of this kind of repentance. Revivals are birthed through intercession and travail.

I am seeing more intercessory prayer going on right now throughout the nation than I have witnessed over the 46 years that I have been a Christian. We are in a battle, and God is looking for intercessors.

Bonhoeffer said "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to ace is to act."

 Re: Honestly

I believe it’s happening,... as mentioned earlier- there are so many saints praying, interceding, growing in their prayer life- rising to the occasion and finally responding to the promptings of Holy Spirit that it’s about to breakout - the work God has been doing underground is about to surface and it’s probably going to look allot different than we imagine. None of us have ever seen or witnessed a movement of God like this because it’s never happened in our lifetime... like a magma flow, quietly building beneath the surface is rarely noticed till the eruption and then everything is affected and changed forever.
Lots of evidence that the spiritual battle that’s been going on behind the scenes is about to take center stage and that’s when the world will see justice as the enemy will have already been overthrown.
Some Churches are aware and labor in prayer others will learn and grow from godly examples, others will still resist and market themselves to the unbelieving...
More than once when Gods people were weak or distracted, He chose someone and used them mightily and I honestly believe that’s what we’re seeing play out in realtime.

 Re:

Hi JFW
Yeah well maybe the results we are seeing now of this prayer are :
A Government which is acknowledging God again, supporting Christians and Israel and against abortion.
The US is in no doubt a better place now than it was two years ago,

 Re:

Hi AbideinHim,
Their are times when to act is go away and hide like Elijah or Paul when they lowered him out of harms way in a basket or Gideon who worshipped God hidden and out of sight.
We are already guiltless through the blood of Jesus...past,present and future.urs staff
