Glorying in the Lord
"Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord."(Jeremiah 9:23-24)
"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."(1Corinthians 1:26-31)
"But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth."(2Corinthians 10:17-18)
God sure doesn't have any good to say about us glorying in ourselves, whether it's receiving our salvation or living the Christian life afterwards. The lost glorying in his accomplishments and knowledge causes him to see no need for God in his life. That's why many in this self-sufficient category aren't called. Many unsaved in this self-sufficient category through their human logic and wisdom have developed for themselves their own concept of a god that is love but even that love is based on human accomplishments.Their life seems to be a search for a way to condone and approve all their activities. A god of their own making based on their human wisdom and knowledge that fits in their own self-sufficient lifestyle. The truth of God's Word and His provision for mankind to be reconciled to Him may never reach their understanding because they see no need for it and it would probably be trampled underfoot like casting pearls before the swine.
The sad part is that we as believers could live in a self-sufficient category and likely would not be used that much of God in our Christian life. We're to glory in understanding and knowing Him.What God wants from us IS US period. He doesn't want our knowledge and abilities, just us available to Him. God Himself is made unto us our wisdom, because He is our righteousness, sanctification and redemption. That is what we can glory in.We are to let God do the commending.God will exercise His loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness through us and all to His glory. This is faith in what He has done,is doing and will do in us and through us and on top of all that He will reward us and we will rule and reign with Him in this earth and forever in eternity in the heavenlies throughout His creation because we are His inheritance.
"Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power" (Ephesians 1:15-19)
That we "may know"and all to His glory. |
